¹And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

²Now the tabernacles, the feast of the Jews, was near.

³His brethren therefore said to him, Remove hence and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou doest;

⁴for no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be [known] in public. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world:

⁴fa tsy misy olona manao zavatra amin'ny takona, nefa ny tenany mitady ho hita miharihary; raha manao izany zavatra izany Hianao, dia misehoa amin'izao tontolo izao. [Na: mitady ho hita fa matoky]

⁵for neither did his brethren believe on him.

⁵Fa na dia ny rahalahiny aza tsy nino Azy.

⁶Jesus therefore says to them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.

⁶Dia hoy Jesosy taminy: Tsy mbola tonga ny fotoako; fa ny fotoanareo dia vonona lalandava.

⁷The world cannot hate you, but me it hates, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil.

⁸Ye, go ye up to this feast. I go not up to this feast, for *my* time is not yet fulfilled.

⁸Miakara ho amin'ny andro firavoravoana ianareo; fa Izaho tsy mbola miakatra ho amin'ity andro firavoravoana ity; satria tsy mbola tonga ny fotoako.

⁹Having said these things to them he abode in Galilee.

⁹Ary rehefa nilaza izany teny izany taminy Izy, dia mbola nitoetra tany Galilia ihany.

¹⁰But when his brethren had gone up, then he himself also went up to the feast, not openly, but as in secret.

¹⁰Fa rehefa lasa niakatra ho amin'ny andro firavoravoana ny rahalahiny, dia niakatra koa Izy, nefa tsy mba nisehoseho, fa toa niafinafina.

¹¹The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

¹²And there was much murmuring concerning him among the crowds. Some said, He is [a] good [man]; others said, No; but he deceives the crowd.

¹²Ary nitakoritsika Azy be ihany ny vahoaka. Hoy ny sasany: Tsara fanahy Izy; fa hoy kosa ny sasany; Tsia; fa mamitaka ny vahoaka Izy.

¹³However, no one spoke openly concerning him on account of [their] fear of the Jews.

¹³Nefa tsy nisy sahy niresaka Azy miharihary noho ny fahatahorany ny Jiosy.

¹⁴But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

¹⁴Ary rehefa nisasaka ny andro firavoravoana, dia niakatra teo an-kianjan'ny tempoly Jesosy ka nampianatra.

¹⁵The Jews therefore wondered, saying, How knows this [man] letters, having never learned?

¹⁵Dia gaga ny Jiosy ka nanao hoe: Ahoana no nahaizan'ilehity soratra, nefa tsy mba nianatra Izy?

¹⁶Jesus therefore answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but [that] of him that has sent me.

¹⁶Dia namaly azy Jesosy ka nanao hoe: Tsy Ahy ny fampianarako, fa an'izay naniraka Ahy.

¹⁷If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or [that] I speak from myself.

¹⁷Raha misy olona ta-hanao ny sitrapony, dia hahalala ny amin'ny fampianarana izy, na avy amin'Andriamanitra izany, na miteny ho Ahy Aho.

¹⁸He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that has sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness is not in him.

¹⁸Izay miteny ho azy dia mitady ny voninahitry ny tenany; fa izay mitady ny voninahitr'izay naniraka azy no marina, ary tsy misy tsi-fahamarinana ao aminy.

¹⁹Has not Moses given you the law, and no one of you practises the law? Why do ye seek to kill me?

¹⁹Tsy Mosesy va no nanome anareo ny lalàna? nefa tsy misy eo aminareo mankatò ny lalàna. Nahoana ianareo no mitady hamono Ahy?

²⁰The crowd answered [and said], Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee?

²⁰Ny vahoaka namaly hoe: Manana demonia Hianao; iza no mitady hamono Anao?

²¹Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all wonder.

²¹Jesosy namaly ka nanao taminy hoe: Asa iray loha ihany no nataoko, ka gaga avokoa ianareo rehetra.

²²Therefore Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye circumcise a man on sabbath.

²²Izao no nanomezan'i Mosesy anareo ny famorana: tsy noho izy avy tamin'i Mosesy, fa noho izy avy tamin'ny razana, ka na dia amin'ny Sabata aza dia mamora olona ihany ianareo.

²³If a man receives circumcision on sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be violated, are ye angry with me because I have made a man entirely sound on sabbath?

²³Raha amin'ny Sabata aza no amorana olona, mba tsy hahafoana ny lalàn'i Mosesy, dia tezitra amiko va ianareo, satria nisy olona anankiray nataoko sitrana avokoa ny tenany rehetra tamin'ny Sabata.

²⁴Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁴Aza mitsara araka ny miseho, fa mba mitsarà marina.

²⁵Some therefore of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

²⁵Ary ny mponina sasany tany Jerosalema dia nanao hoe: Tsy Ilehity va Ilay tadiaviny hovonoina?

²⁶and behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers then indeed recognised that this is the Christ?

²⁶Ary indro Izy miteny miharihary, nefa tsy misy miteny Azy akory. Sao efa fantatry ny mpanapaka anie fa Io no Kristy?

²⁷But [as to] this [man] we know whence he is. Now [as to] the Christ, when he comes, no one knows whence he is.

²⁷Nefa fantatsika izay nihavian'ilehio, fa raha avy Kristy, tsy misy mahalala izay hihaviany.

²⁸Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know.

²⁸Dia niantso teo an-kianjan'ny tempoly Jesosy, raha nampianatra, ka nanao hoe: Izaho dia fantatrareo, sady fantatrareo koa izay nihaviako; ary tsy avy ho Ahy Aho, fa marina ny naniraka Ahy, Izay tsy fantatrareo.

²⁹I know him, because I am from him, and *he* has sent me.

²⁹Izaho mahalala Azy; fa Izy no nihaviako, ka Izy no naniraka Ahy.

³⁰They sought therefore to take him; and no one laid his hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.

³⁰Dia nitady hisambotra Azy ny olona; kanefa tsy nisy naninji-tanana taminy, satria tsy mbola tonga ny fotoany.

³¹But many of the crowd believed on him, and said, Will the Christ, when he comes, do more signs than those which this [man] has done?

³²The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they might take him.

³³Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me.

³⁴Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me], and where I am ye cannot come.

³⁵The Jews therefore said to one another, Where is he about to go that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

³⁵Dia niresaka hoe ny Jiosy: Hankaiza moa no halehan'ilehity, no tsy ho hitantsika? Hankany amin'izay miely any amin'ny Grika va Izy ka hampianatra ny Grika?

³⁶What word is this which he said, Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me]; and where I am ye cannot come?

³⁶Ahoana re izao teny nolazainy izao hoe: Hitady Ahy ianareo, fa tsy hahita; ary izay itoerako tsy azonareo haleha?

³⁷In the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.

³⁷Ary tamin'ny andro farany, izay andro lehibe tamin'ny andro firavoravoana, dia nitsangana Jesosy ka niantso nanao hoe: Raha misy olona mangetaheta, aoka izy hanatona Ahy ka hisotro.

³⁸He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

³⁸Izay mino Ahy, dia hisy onin'ny rano velona miboiboika avy ao an-kibony, araka ny voalazan'ny Soratra Masina.

³⁹But this he said concerning the Spirit, which they that believed on him were about to receive; for [the] Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

³⁹Ary ny Fanahy, Izay efa horaisin'ny mino Azy, no nolazainy tamin'izany; fa ny Fanahy tsy mbola nomena, satria Jesosy tsy mbola niditra tamin'ny voninahiny. [ Na: Fanahy Masina]

⁴⁰[Some] out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet.

⁴¹Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴²Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?

⁴²Tsy voalazan'ny Soratra Masina va fa Kristy dia avy amin'ny taranak'i Davida, sady avy ao Betlehema, vohitra nonenan'i Davida (Mik. 5. 1)?

⁴³There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.

⁴⁴But some of them desired to take him, but no one laid hands upon him.

⁴⁴Ary ny sasany nitady hisambotra Azy; kanefa tsy nisy naninji-tanana taminy.

⁴⁵The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?

⁴⁵Ary ny mpiandry raharaha nankeo amin'ny lohan'ny mpisorona sy ny Fariseo, ka hoy izy ireo taminy: Nahoana ianareo no tsy nitondra Azy?

⁴⁶The officers answered, Never man spoke thus, as this man [speaks].

⁴⁶Ny mpiandry raharaha namaly hoe: Tsy mbola nisy olona niteny tahaka izany.

⁴⁷The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?

⁴⁷Ary ny Fariseo namaly azy hoe: Hianareo koa va voafitaka?

⁴⁸Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁸Moa misy mpanapaka na Fariseo mba nino Azy?

⁴⁹But this crowd, which does not know the law, are accursed.

⁴⁹Fa voaozona ireto vahoaka ireto, izay tsy mahalala ny lalàna.

⁵⁰Nicodemus says to them (being one of themselves),

⁵⁰Ary Nikodemosy, anankiray teo aminy, dia ilay nankeo amin'i Jesosy teo aloha, dia nanao taminy hoe:

⁵¹Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?

⁵¹Moa manameloka olona va ny lalàntsika, raha tsy mbola mihaino azy aloha ka mahafantatra izay nataony?

⁵²They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look, that no prophet arises out of Galilee.

⁵²Izy ireo namaly ka nanao taminy hoe: Hianao koa angaha mba avy any Galilia? Diniho, dia ho hitanao fa tsy mba misy mpaminany avy any Galilia.[Dia samy lasa nody ho any an-tranony avy izy rehetra;]

⁵³And every one went to his home.
