¹Let every soul be subject to the authorities that are above [him]. For there is no authority except from God; and those that exist are set up by God.

¹Aoka ny olona rehetra samy hanaiky ny fahefana lehibe. Fa tsy misy fahefana afa-tsy izay avy amin'Andriamanitra; fa izay misy dia voatendrin'Andriamanitra.

²So that he that sets himself in opposition to the authority resists the ordinance of God; and they who [thus] resist shall bring sentence of guilt on themselves.

²Koa izay manohitra ny fahefana dia manohitra ny voatendrin'Andriamanitra; ary izay manohitra dia hahazo fahamelohana.

³For rulers are not a terror to a good work, but to an evil [one]. Dost thou desire then not to be afraid of the authority? practise [what is] good, and thou shalt have praise from it;

³Fa ny mpanapaka dia tsy mba tahotry ny manao tsara, fa ny manao ratsy ihany. Ary ny tsy hatahotra ny fahefana va no tianao? Ataovy ary izay tsara, dia hahazo dera avy aminy ianao;

⁴for it is God's minister to thee for good. But if thou practisest evil, fear; for it bears not the sword in vain; for it is God's minister, an avenger for wrath to him that does evil.

⁴fa mpanompon'Andriamanitra izy hahatsara anao. Fa raha ratsy kosa no nataonao, dia matahora'fa tsy entiny foana tsy akory ny sabatra; fa mpanompon'Andriamanitra izy, dia mpamaly handatsaka fahatezerana amin'izay manao ratsy.

⁵Wherefore it is necessary to be subject, not only on account of wrath, but also on account of conscience.

⁵Koa tsy maintsy manaiky ny olona, nefa tsy noho ny fahatezerana ihany, fa noho ny fieritreretana koa.

⁶For on this account ye pay tribute also; for they are God's officers, attending continually on this very thing.

⁶Fa noho izany no andoavanareo vola hetra; fa mpanompon'Andriamanitra mitandrina izany zavatra izany indrindra ireny.

⁷Render to all their dues: to whom tribute [is due], tribute; to whom custom, custom; to whom fear, fear; to whom honour, honour.

⁷Mandoava amin'izy rehetra izay tokony ho azy avy: vola hetra ho an'izay tokony handoavan-ketra, fadin-tseranana ho an'izay tokony handoavana fadin-tseranana'tahotra ho an'izay tokony hatahorana, haja ho an'izay tokony hohajaina.

⁸Owe no one anything, unless to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.

⁸Aza avela hisy tsy voaloa na amin'iza na amin'iza, afa-tsy ny fifankatiavanareo ihany; fa izay tia ny namany dia efa nahatanteraka ny lalàna.

⁹For, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not lust; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

⁹Fa ny hoe: Aza mijangajanga, aza mamono olona, aza mangalatra, aza mitsiriritra zavatr'olona (Eks. 20. 13-17), mbamin'izay didy hafa rehetra, dia samy efa ao anatin'izao teny izao hoe: Tiava ny namanao tahaka ny tenanao (Lev. 19. 18).

¹⁰Love works no ill to its neighbour; love therefore [is the] whole law.

¹⁰Ny fitiavana tsy manisy ratsy ny namana; koa dia ny fitiavana no fahatanterahana ny lalàna.

¹¹This also, knowing the time, that it is already time that *we* should be aroused out of sleep; for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.

¹¹Ary tokony hanao izany indrindra isika, satria fantatsika ny andro, fa ankehitriny izao dia ora tokony hifohazanareo amin'ny fahatoriana; fa ankehitriny ny famonjena antsika dia akaiky noho ny tamin'ny andro vao ninoantsika.

¹²The night is far spent, and the day is near; let us cast away therefore the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

¹²Efa ho lasa ny alina, ka efa mby akaiky kokoa ny andro, koa aoka hariantsika ny asan'ny maizina ka hitafiantsika ny fiadian'ny mazava.

¹³As in the day, let us walk becomingly; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and lasciviousness, not in strife and emulation.

¹⁴But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not take forethought for the flesh to [fulfil its] lusts.
