¹Moreover Elihu answered and said,

¹¶ I korero ano a Erihu, i mea,

²Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than ùGod's?

²Ki tou whakaaro he tika tenei mau, e mea ana ranei koe, Nui atu toku tika i to te Atua?

³For thou hast asked of what profit it is unto thee: what do I gain more than if I had sinned?

³I mea ai koe, He aha te rawa ki a koe? a, He aha te painga ki ahau, hira ake i te painga me i hara ahau?

⁴I will reply to thee in words, and to thy companions with thee.

⁴Maku e whakahoki he kupu ki a koe, ki a koutou ko ou hoa.

⁵Look unto the heavens and see; and survey the skies: they are higher than thou.

⁶If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

⁷If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand?

⁷Ki te mea he tika tou, ko te aha e hoatu ana e koe ki a ia? Ko te aha ranei a tou ringa e riro ana i a ia?

⁸Thy wickedness [may affect] a man as thou [art], and thy righteousness a son of man.

⁸Ka mamae pea tetahi tangata pena i a koe na i tou kino; ka whai painga pea ki tetahi tama a te tangata tou tika.

⁹By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry; they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty:

⁹¶ He maha no nga tukinotanga i tangi ai ratou; na te ringaringa o te hunga nui i aue ai ratou kia awhinatia.

¹⁰But none saith, Where is +God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night,

¹⁰Kahore ia tetahi e mea ana, Kei hea toku Kaihanga, te Atua, e homai nei i nga waiata i te po?

¹¹Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowl of the heavens?

¹¹E nui atu nei tana whakaako ki a tatou i tana ki nga kararehe o te whenua, nana hoki i nui ai o tatou mahara i o nga manu o te rangi?

¹²There they cry, and he answereth not, because of the pride of evil men.

¹³Surely ùGod will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

¹⁴Although thou sayest thou dost not see him, judgment is before him, therefore wait for him.

¹⁴¶ Ka iti rawa iho ki te mea koe, kahore koe e kite i a ia, kei tona aroaro te whakarite whakawa; na ka tatari koe ki a ia!

¹⁵But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, doth not [Job] know [his] great arrogancy?

¹⁵Na, kihai nei ia i tae mai i runga i tona riri, kihai ano hoki i aro nui mai ki te whakamanamana;

¹⁶For Job hath opened his mouth in vanity, and made words abundant without knowledge.
