¹Now in those days comes John the baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

¹ထိုကာလအခါ ဗတ္တိဇံဆရာယောဟန်သည် ပေါ်ထွန်းလျှင်၊ ကောင်းကင်နိုင်ငံတော်သည် တည်လုနီး ပြီ။

²and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh.

²ထို့ကြောင့် နောင်တရကြလော့ဟု ယုဒတော၌ဟောလေ၏။

³For this is he who has been spoken of through Esaias the prophet, saying, Voice of him that crieth in the wilderness: prepare ye the way of [the] Lord, make straight his paths.

³ပရောဖက်ဟေရှာယဟောဘူးသည်ကား၊ တော၌ဟစ်ကျော်သောသူ၏အသံမှာ၊ ထာဝရဘုရား ကြွ တော်မူရာလမ်းကို ပြင်ကြလော့။ လမ်းခရီးတော်ကို ဖြောင့်စေကြလော့ဟူသောအချက်၌ ထိုယောဟန်ကို ဆိုလို သတည်း။

⁴And John himself had his garment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and wild honey.

⁴ယောဟန်သည် ကုလားအုပ်အမွေးနှင့်ရက်သော အဝတ်ကိုဝတ်လျက်၊ ခါး၌သားရေခါးပန်းကို စည်း လျက်၊ ကျိုင်းကောင်နှင့် တော၌ဖြစ်သော ပျားရည်ကို စားလျက်နေ၏။

⁵Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the country round the Jordan,

⁵ထိုအခါ ယေရုရှလင်မြို့မှစ၍ ယုဒပြည်သူပြည်သား၊ ယော်ဒန်မြစ်နားမှာနေသောသူအပေါင်းတို့သည် ယောဟန်ထံသို့ ထွက်သွား၍၊

⁶and were baptised by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁶မိမိတို့အပြစ်များကို ဘော်ပြလျက်ယော်ဒန်မြစ်၌ ဗတ္တိဇံကို ခံကြ၏။

⁷But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?

⁷ဖာရိရှဲနှင့် ဗဒ္ဒုကဲအများတို့သည် ဗတ္တိဇံကို ခံအံ့သောငှာလာကြသည်ကို ယောဟန်သည်မြင်လျှင်၊ အချင်းမြွေဆိုးအမျိုးတို့၊ ရောက်လုသောသေဒဏ်မှ ပြေးသွားစိမ့်သောငှာ၊ အဘယ်သူသည် သင်တို့ကိုသတိပေး ဘိသနည်း။

⁸Produce therefore fruit worthy of repentance.

⁸နောင်တရခြင်းနှင့် ထိုက်တန်သောအကျင့်ကို ကျင့်ကြလော့။

⁹And do not think to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for [our] father; for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

⁹အာဗြဟံသည် ငါတို့အဘဖြစ်သည်ဟူ၍ စိတ်ထဲ၌မအောက်မေ့ကြနှင့်။ ဘုရားသခင်သည် ဤကျောက်ခဲတို့မှ အာဗြဟံတို့ကို ထုတ်ဘော်ဖန်ဆင်းနိုင်တော်မူသည်ဟု ငါအမှန်ဆို၏။

¹⁰And already the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

¹⁰သစ်ပင်အမြစ်နားမှာ ပုဆိန်ထားလျက်ရှိသည်ဖြစ်၍၊ ကောင်းသောအသီးမသိးသောအပင် ရှိသမျှတို့ကို ခုတ်လှဲ၍ မီးထဲသို့ ချလိုက်ရ၏။

¹¹*I* indeed baptise you with water to repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not fit to bear; *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit and fire;

¹¹ငါသည်နောင်တအဘို့အလိုငှါ သင်တို့ကို ရေနှင့်ဗတ္တိဇံပေး၏။ ငါ့နောက်ကြွလာသောသူသည် ငါ့ထက် တတ်စွမ်းနိုင်၏။ ထိုသူ၏ခြေနင်းတော်ကိုမျှဆောင်ခြင်းငှာ ငါမထိုက်။ ထိုသူသည် သန့်ရှင်းသောဝိညာဉ်တော် နှင့်၎င်း၊ မီးနှင့်၎င်း၊ သင်တို့ကို ဗတ္တိဇံပေးမည်။

¹²whose winnowing fan [is] in his hand, and he shall thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and shall gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

¹²လက်တော်တွင် စံကောပါလျက်၊ မိမိကောက်နယ်တလင်းကို ရှင်းလင်းစေသဖြင့်၊ မိမိဂျုံစပါးကို ကျီ၌ စုသိမ်းသွင်းထား၍၊ အဖျင်းကိုကား မငြိမ်းနိုင်သောမီးနှင့် ရှိတော်မူလတံ့ဟု ယောဟန်ဟောပြော၏။

¹³Then comes Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptised of him;

¹³ထိုအခါ ယေရှုသည် ဗတ္တိဇံကို ခံအံ့သောငှါ ဂါလိလဲပြည်မှ ယော်ဒန်မြစ်နား ယောဟန်ထံသို့ ကြွတော် မူ၏။

¹⁴but John urgently forbad him, saying, *I* have need to be baptised of thee; and comest *thou* to me?

¹⁴ယောဟန်ကလည်း၊ အကျွန်ုပ်သည် ကိုယ်တော်ထံ၌ ဗတ္တိဇံကိုခံရမည် အကြောင်းရှိပါသည်ဖြစ်၍၊ ကိုယ်တော်သည် အကျွန်ုပ်ထံသို့ ကြွလာတော်မူသလောဟု ယေရှုကိုဆီးတားလေ၏။

¹⁵But Jesus answering said to him, Suffer [it] now; for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffers him.

¹⁵ယေရှုကလည်း အလုံးစုံသောတရားတို့ကို အကုန်အစင်ကျင့်သင့်သည်ဖြစ်၍ ယခုအခွင့်ပေးပါဟု ပြန်ပြောတော်မူ၏။ ထိုအခါ ယောဟန်သည် ဝန်ခံလေ၏။

¹⁶And Jesus, having been baptised, went up straightway from the water, and lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him:

¹⁶ယေရှုသည်ဗတ္တိဇံကိုခံတော်မူပြီးလျှင် ရေမှပေါ်ထစဉ်တွင်၊ ကောင်းကင်ဖွင့်လှစ်သဖြင့်၊ ဘုရားသခင်၏ ဝိညာဉ်တော်သည် ချိုးငှက်ကဲ့သို့ ဆင်းသက်၍ ကိုယ်တော်အပေါ်၌ နားတော်မူသည်ကိုမြင်ရ၍၊

¹⁷and behold, a voice out of the heavens saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight.

¹⁷ဤသူကား ငါနှစ်သက်မြတ်နိုးရာ၊ ငါ၏ချစ်သား ပေတည်းဟု ကောင်းကင်က အသံတော်ဖြစ်လေ၏။
