¹And they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshing-floors.

¹Så kom det nogen og sa til David: Filistrene har nu kringsatt Ke'ila, og de plyndrer låvene.

²And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

²Da spurte David Herren: Skal jeg ta avsted og slå disse filistrer? Herren svarte David: Ta avsted og slå filistrene og frels Ke'ila!

³But David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

³Men Davids menn sa til ham: Vi må jo være redde for livet her i Juda; og så skulde vi dra til Ke'ila mot filistrenes fylkinger?

⁴And David inquired of Jehovah yet again. And Jehovah answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will give the Philistines into thy hand.

⁴Da spurte David Herren ennu en gang, og Herren svarte ham og sa: Ta ut og dra ned til Ke'ila! Jeg gir filistrene i din hånd.

⁵And David and his men went to Keilah, and fought against the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

⁵Så drog David og hans menn til Ke'ila, og han stred mot filistrene og drev deres buskap bort og påførte dem et stort mannefall. Således frelste David Ke'ilas innbyggere.

⁶And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, he came down with an ephod in his hand.

⁶Da Abjatar, Akimeleks sønn, flyktet til David i Ke'ila, hadde han livkjortelen med sig der ned.

⁷And it was told Saul that David had come to Keilah. Then Saul said, God has cast him off into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a city that has gates and bars.

⁷Da Saul fikk spurt at David var kommet til Ke'ila, sa han: Gud kjennes ikke ved ham og har gitt ham i min hånd; for han har stengt sig selv inne ved å gå inn i en by med dobbelte porter og bommer.

⁸And Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

⁸Så kalte Saul alt folket sammen til strid og vilde dra ned til Ke'ila for å kringsette David og hans menn.

⁹And when David knew that Saul devised mischief against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod.

⁹Da David skjønte at det var mot ham Saul la op onde råd, sa han til Abjatar, presten: Kom hit med livkjortelen!

¹⁰Then said David, Jehovah, God of Israel, thy servant hath heard for certain that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

¹⁰Så sa David: Herre, Israels Gud! Din tjener har hørt at Saul har i sinne å komme til Ke'ila og ødelegge byen for min skyld.

¹¹Will the citizens of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? Jehovah, God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And Jehovah said, He will come down.

¹¹Vil Ke'ilas menn overgi mig til ham? Vil Saul dra her ned, som din tjener har hørt? Herre, Israels Gud! Åpenbar det for din tjener! Herren svarte: Ja, han vil dra her ned.

¹²And David said, Will the citizens of Keilah deliver up me and my men into the hand of Saul? And Jehovah said, They will deliver [thee] up.

¹²Da sa David: Vil Ke'ilas menn overgi mig og mine menn til Saul? Herren svarte: Ja, det vil de.

¹³Then David and his men, about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, and he forbore to go forth.

¹³Da brøt David op med sine folk, omkring seks hundre mann; de drog bort fra Ke'ila og vanket om hvor det traff sig. Og da Saul fikk spurt at David hadde sloppet bort fra Ke'ila, lot han være å dra ut.

¹⁴And David abode in the wilderness in strongholds, and abode in the mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand.

¹⁴Siden holdt David til i ørkenen, i fjellborgene; han holdt til i fjellene i Sifs ørken; og Saul søkte efter ham hele tiden, men Gud gav ham ikke i hans hånd.

¹⁵And David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life; and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

¹⁵Men David skjønte at Saul hadde draget ut for å stå ham efter livet. Mens David var i skogen i Sifs ørken,

¹⁶And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

¹⁶drog Jonatan, Sauls sønn, avsted og kom til ham i skogen, og han styrket hans mot i Gud.

¹⁷And he said to him, Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father will not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next to thee; and that also Saul my father knows.

¹⁷Han sa til ham: Vær ikke redd! Min far Sauls hånd skal ikke nå dig; du skal bli konge over Israel, og jeg skal være den næste efter dig; det vet også Saul, min far.

¹⁸And they two made a covenant before Jehovah; and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

¹⁸Så gjorde de begge en pakt for Herrens åsyn; og David blev i skogen, men Jonatan drog hjem igjen.

¹⁹And the Ziphites came up to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself with us in strongholds in the wood, on the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of the waste?

¹⁹Men nogen sifitter drog op til Saul i Gibea og sa: David holder sig skjult hos oss i fjellborgene i skogen, på Kakilahaugen sønnenfor ørkenen.

²⁰And now, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and it will be for us to deliver him up into the king's hand.

²⁰Så kom nu her ned, konge, så sant det er din attrå å komme her ned, og vi skal sørge for å overgi ham i kongens hånd.

²¹And Saul said, Blessed be ye of Jehovah; for ye have compassion upon me.

²¹Saul svarte: Velsignet være I av Herren, fordi I har medynk med mig!

²²Go, I pray you, make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his track is, who has seen him there; for it is told me that he deals very subtilly.

²²Dra nu bort og pass på fremdeles, så I kan få rede på og se efter hvor han vanker, og hvem som har sett ham der! For folk har sagt mig at han er meget slu.

²³And see, and ascertain all the lurking-places where he hides himself, and come ye again to me with sure information, that I may go with you; and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout the thousands of Judah.

²³Se efter og gjør eder kjent med alle de smutthuller hvor han skjuler sig, og kom så tilbake til mig med sikker beskjed. Så vil jeg gå med eder, og dersom han er i landet, skal jeg søke ham op blandt alle Judas tusener.

²⁴And they arose and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of the waste.

²⁴Så brøt de op og drog til Sif forut for Saul; men David og hans menn var da i Maons ørken, på den øde mark sønnenfor ørkenen.

²⁵And Saul and his men went to seek [him]. And they told David; and he came down from the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And Saul heard [that], and he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

²⁵Siden gikk Saul og hans menn avsted for å lete efter David; men David fikk vite det, og han drog ned til klippen og blev i Maons ørken; og da Saul fikk høre det, satte han efter David til Maons ørken.

²⁶And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David made haste to get away from Saul; and Saul and his men sought to surround David and his men to take them.

²⁶Saul gikk på den ene side av fjellet og David og hans menn på den andre side. Og David søkte engstelig å komme bort fra Saul, mens Saul og hans menn holdt på å omringe David og hans menn for å gripe dem.

²⁷But there came a messenger to Saul, saying, Haste thee and come; for the Philistines have made a raid against the land.

²⁷Da kom det et bud til Saul og sa: Skynd dig og dra avsted! Filistrene har falt inn i landet.

²⁸And Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines; therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.

²⁸Så vendte Saul tilbake og forfulgte ikke David lenger, men drog mot filistrene; derfor har de kalt dette sted Sela-Hammahlekot*. / {* undkomst-klippen.}

²⁹And David went up from thence, and abode in the strongholds of Engedi.
