¹And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-Gilead.

¹Profeten Elisa kalte på en av profetenes disipler og sa til ham: Omgjord dine lender og ta denne oljekrukke i din hånd og gå til Ramot i Gilead!

²And when thou art come thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him rise up from among his brethren, and bring him to an inner chamber;

²Når du kommer dit, skal du opsøke Jehu, sønn av Nimsis sønn Josafat, og gå så inn og be ham stå op der han sitter blandt sine brødre, og før ham inn i det innerste kammer.

³then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head and say, Thus saith Jehovah: I have anointed thee king over Israel; and open the door, and flee, and tarry not.

³Ta så oljekrukken og hell den ut over hans hode og si: Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet dig til konge over Israel! Så skal du åpne døren og flykte og ikke dryge.

⁴And the young man, the young prophet, went to Ramoth-Gilead.

⁴Så gikk den unge mann - den unge profet - til Ramot i Gilead.

⁵And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting. And he said, I have an errand to thee, captain. And Jehu said, To which of all of us? And he said, To thee, captain.

⁵Og da han kom dit, så han hærens høvedsmenn sitte der; og han sa: Jeg har noget å si dig, høvedsmann! Da sa Jehu: Hvem av alle oss her? Han svarte: Dig, høvedsmann!

⁶And he rose up and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: I have anointed thee king over the people of Jehovah, over Israel.

⁶Da stod han op og gikk inn i huset, og han helte oljen ut over hans hode og sa til ham: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Jeg har salvet dig til konge over Herrens folk, over Israel.

⁷And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master; and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah at the hand of Jezebel.

⁷Du skal gjøre ende på din herre Akabs hus, for jeg vil hevne mine tjenere profetenes blod og alle Herrens tjeneres blod på Jesabel.

⁸And the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, and him that is shut up and left in Israel.

⁸Og hele Akabs hus skal gå til grunne; jeg vil utrydde alle menn av Akabs ætt, både myndige og umyndige, i Israel.

⁹And I will make the house of Ahab as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and as the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.

⁹Jeg vil gjøre med Akabs hus som med Jeroboams, Nebats sønns hus, og med Baesas, Akias sønns hus.

¹⁰And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the plot of Jizreel, and none shall bury her. And he opened the door and fled.

¹⁰Og Jesabel skal hundene fortære på Jisre'els mark, og ingen skal begrave henne. Så åpnet han døren og flyktet.

¹¹And Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord. And one said to him, Is all well? why came this madman to thee? And he said to them, Ye know the man, and his mind.

¹¹Da Jehu kom ut til sin herres menn, spurte de ham: Står alt vel til? Hvorfor kom denne gale mann* til dig? Han svarte: I kjenner jo mannen og hans underlige tanker. / {* HSE 9, 7.}

¹²And they said, It is false! tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spoke he to me saying, Thus saith Jehovah: I have anointed thee king over Israel.

¹²Men de sa: Du taler ikke sant; si oss hvad det er! Da sa han: Så og så talte han til mig og sa: Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet dig til konge over Israel.

¹³Then they hasted and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the very stairs, and blew with trumpets, and said, Jehu is king!

¹³Da skyndte de sig og tok hver sin kappe og la dem under ham på trappetrinene; og de støtte i basunen og ropte: Jehu er konge!

¹⁴And Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram kept Ramoth-Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria;

¹⁴Således fikk Jehu, sønn av Nimsis sønn Josafat, en sammensvergelse i stand mot Joram - Joram hadde med hele Israel ligget på vakt ved Ramot i Gilead mot kongen i Syria Hasael;

¹⁵and king Joram had returned to be healed in Jizreel of the wounds that the Syrians had given him, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your will, let not a fugitive escape out of the city to go to tell [it] in Jizreel.

¹⁶And Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jizreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.

¹⁶Så steg Jehu op i sin vogn og drog til Jisre'el, for Joram lå syk der; og Judas konge Akasja hadde draget der ned for å se til Joram.

¹⁷And the watchman stood on the tower in Jizreel, and saw Jehu's company as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?

¹⁷Vekteren som stod på tårnet i Jisre'el, ropte da han så Jehu komme med sin flokk: Jeg ser en flokk som kommer. Da sa Joram: Ta og send en rytter for å møte dem og spørre: Kommer I med fred?

¹⁸So there went one on horseback to meet him; and he said, Thus saith the king: Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told saying, The messenger came to them, and he does not return.

¹⁸Rytteren drog ham i møte og sa: Så sier kongen: Kommer I med fred? Jehu svarte: Hvad kommer det dig ved? Vend om og følg mig! Vekteren meldte det og sa: Budet har nådd frem til dem, men kommer ikke tilbake.

¹⁹And he sent out a second on horseback; and he came to them and said, Thus saith the king: Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

¹⁹Da sendte han en annen rytter, og da han kom til dem, sa han: Så sier kongen: Kommer I med fred? Jehu svarte: Hvad kommer det dig ved? Vend om og følg mig!

²⁰And the watchman told saying, He came to them, and does not return. And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously.

²⁰Vekteren meldte det og sa: Han har nådd frem til dem, men kommer ikke tilbake. Efter måten de farer frem på, ser det ut som det kunde være Jehu, Nimsis sønn; for han farer frem som en rasende.

²¹Then Joram said, Make ready! And they made ready his chariot. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him in the plot of Naboth the Jizreelite.

²¹Da sa Joram: Spenn for! Og de spente for hans vogn; og Israels konge Joram og Judas konge Akasja drog ut, hver på sin vogn; de drog Jehu i møte og traff ham på jisre'elitten Nabots mark.

²²And it came to pass when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he said, What peace, so long as the fornications of thy mother Jezebel and her sorceries are so many?

²²Da Joram fikk øie på Jehu, spurte han: Kommer du med fred, Jehu? Han svarte: Hvorledes kan du tale om fred så lenge din mor Jesabel holder på med sitt horelevnet og sine mange trolldomskunster?

²³Then Joram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, Treachery, Ahaziah!

²³Da vendte Joram om og flyktet, og han ropte til Akasja: Det er forræderi, Akasja!

²⁴And Jehu took his bow in his hand, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out through his heart; and he sank down in his chariot.

²⁴Men Jehu grep sin bue med hånden og skjøt Joram mellem armene, så pilen gikk ut gjennem hjertet, og han sank ned i sin vogn.

²⁵And he said to Bidkar his captain, Take him up [and] cast him in the plot of the field of Naboth the Jizreelite. For remember how, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, that Jehovah laid this burden upon him:

²⁵Da sa Jehu til sin høvedsmann Bidkar: Ta og kast ham inn på jisre'elitten Nabots mark! Kom i hu hvorledes jeg og du red sammen efter hans far Akab, og Herren uttalte dette ord mot ham:

²⁶Certainly I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith Jehovah; and I will requite thee in this plot, saith Jehovah. And now, take [and] cast him into the plot, according to the word of Jehovah.

²⁶Sannelig, Nabots blod og hans sønners blod så jeg igår, sier Herren, og jeg vil gjengjelde dig det på denne mark, sier Herren. Så ta nu og kast ham inn på marken efter Herrens ord!

²⁷When Ahaziah king of Judah saw [that], he fled by the way of the garden-house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in his chariot. It was on the ascent of Gur, which is by Jibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

²⁷Da Judas konge Akasja så det, flyktet han og tok veien til havehuset; men Jehu satte efter ham og ropte: Slå også ham ned! Og de slo ham ned i hans vogn i Gur-kleven ved Jibleam, og han flyktet til Megiddo og døde der.

²⁸And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.

²⁸Hans tjenere kjørte ham til Jerusalem, og de begravde ham i hans grav hos hans fedre i Davids stad.

²⁹(And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab had Ahaziah begun to reign over Judah.)

³⁰And Jehu came to Jizreel; and Jezebel heard of it, and she put paint to her eyes, and decked her head, and looked out at the window.

³⁰Så kom Jehu til Jisre'el; og da Jesabel hørte det, sminket hun sine øine og smykket sitt hode og så ut gjennem vinduet.

³¹And when Jehu came in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of his master?

³¹Og da Jehu kom inn gjennem porten, ropte hun: Kommer du med fred, du Simri som slo din herre ihjel?

³²And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And two or three chamberlains looked out to him.

³²Men han så op mot vinduet og sa: Hvem holder med mig? Hvem? Da så to, tre hoffmenn ut gjennem vinduet.

³³And he said, Throw her down! And they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses; and he trampled on her.

³³Han ropte: Styrt henne ned! Da styrtet de henne ned, og hennes blod sprutet opefter veggen og på hestene, og han lot hestene tråkke henne ned.

³⁴And he came in, and ate and drank; and he said, Go, look, I pray you, after this cursed [woman], and bury her; for she is a king's daughter.

³⁴Så gikk han inn, og da han hadde ett og drukket, sa han: Se efter denne forbannede kvinne og begrav henne! For hun er kongedatter.

³⁵And they went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.

³⁵Men da de gikk avsted for å begrave henne, fant de ikke annet av henne enn hjerneskallen og føttene og hendene.

³⁶And they came back and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite saying, In the plot of Jizreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel;

³⁶De vendte tilbake og fortalte ham det; da sa han: Dette er det ord som Herren talte gjennem sin tjener tisbitten Elias da han sa: På Jisre'els mark skal hundene fortære Jesabels kjøtt,

³⁷and the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the open field in the plot of Jizreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

³⁷og Jesabels lik skal bli som møkk på jorden på Jisre'els mark, så ingen skal kunne si: Dette er Jesabel.
