¹The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

¹De ord som Amos, en av hyrdene fra Tekoa, mottok i sine syner om Israel i de dager da Ussias var konge i Juda og Jeroboam, Joas' sønn, konge i Israel, to år før jordskjelvet.

²And he said, Jehovah roareth from Zion, and uttereth his voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withereth.

²Han sa: Herren skal brøle fra Sion og la sin røst høre fra Jerusalem, og hyrdenes beitemarker skal sørge, og Karmels topp bli tørr.

³Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke [my sentence], because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron.

⁴And I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad.

⁵And I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Beth-Eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith Jehovah.

⁵og jeg vil sønderbryte Damaskus' portbom og utrydde dem som bor i Avens dal, og den som bærer kongestaven, i Bet-Eden; og Syrias folk skal bortføres til Kir, sier Herren.

⁶Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gazah, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver [them] up to Edom.

⁶Så sier Herren: For tre misgjerninger av Gasa, ja for fire vil jeg ikke ta det tilbake - fordi de bortførte alt folket som fanger og overgav dem til Edom;

⁷And I will send a fire on the wall of Gazah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

⁷men jeg vil sende ild mot Gasas murer, og den skal fortære dets palasser,

⁸And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Jehovah.

⁸og jeg vil utrydde dem som bor i Asdod, og den som bærer kongestaven, i Askalon, og jeg vil vende min hånd mot Ekron, og det som er igjen av filistrene, skal gå til grunne, sier Herren, Israels Gud.

⁹Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant.

⁹Så sier Herren: For tre misgjerninger av Tyrus, ja for fire vil jeg ikke ta det tilbake - fordi de overgav alt folket som fanger til Edom og ikke kom brorpakten i hu;

¹⁰And I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

¹⁰men jeg vil sende ild mot Tyrus' murer, og den skal fortære dets palasser.

¹¹Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity; and his anger did tear continually, and he kept his wrath for ever.

¹¹Så sier Herren: For tre misgjerninger av Edom, ja for fire vil jeg ikke ta det tilbake - fordi han forfulgte sin bror med sverd og kvalte sin barmhjertighet, og hans vrede stadig sønderrev, og han alltid holdt på sin harme;

¹²And I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

¹²men jeg vil sende ild mot Teman, og den skal fortære Bosras palasser.

¹³Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.

¹³Så sier Herren: For tre misgjerninger av Ammons barn, ja for fire vil jeg ikke ta det tilbake - fordi de skar op de fruktsommelige kvinner i Gilead for å utvide sitt landemerke;

¹⁴And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind.

¹⁴men jeg vil stikke ild på Rabbas murer, og den skal fortære dets palasser, under hærskrik på stridens dag, i storm på uværets dag,

¹⁵And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith Jehovah.

¹⁵og deres konge skal føres bort som fange, både han og hans fyrster, sier Herren.
