¹To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens:

¹ برای هر چیزی که در دنیا اتّفاق می‌افتد، زمان معیّنی وجود دارد.

²A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

² زمانی برای تولّد، زمانی برای مردن، زمانی برای کاشتن، زمانی برای درو کردن،

³A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up;

³ زمانی برای کُشتن، زمانی برای شفا دادن، زمانی برای خراب کردن، زمانی برای ساختن،

⁴A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance;

⁴ زمانی برای گریه، زمانی برای خنده، زمانی برای ماتم، زمانی برای رقص،

⁵A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

⁵ زمانی برای دور ریختن سنگها، زمانی برای جمع کردن سنگها، زمانی برای در آغوش گرفتن، زمانی برای اجتناب از آن،

⁶A time to seek, and a time to lose; A time to keep, and a time to cast away;

⁶ زمانی برای سود، زمانی برای زیان، زمانی برای اندوختن، زمانی برای دور انداختن،

⁷A time to rend, and a time to sew; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

⁷ زمانی برای بریدن، زمانی برای دوختن، زمانی برای سکوت، زمانی برای گفتن،

⁸A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace.

⁸ زمانی برای دوستی، زمانی برای دشمنی، زمانی برای جنگ و زمانی برای صلح.

⁹What profit hath he that worketh from that wherein he laboureth?

⁹ یک کارگر چه سودی از زحمت خود می‌برد؟

¹⁰I have seen the travail that God hath given to the sons of men to toil in.

¹⁰ زحماتی را که خدا بر دوش انسان گذاشته است، دیدم.

¹¹He hath made everything beautiful in its time; also he hath set the world in their heart, so that man findeth not out from the beginning to the end the work that God doeth.

¹¹ او برای هر چیز زمان مناسبی تعیین نموده است. همچنین او شوق دانستن ابدیّت را در دلهای انسان نهاده است، امّا انسان نمی‌تواند مفهوم کارهای خدا را از ابتدا تا انتها درک کند.

¹²I know that there is nothing good for them but to rejoice and to do well in their life;

¹² پس به این نتیجه رسیدم که بهتر است خوش باشیم و تا زمانی که زنده هستیم، از زندگی حداکثر استفاده را بنماییم.

¹³yea also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labour, it is the gift of God.

¹³ بخوریم و بنوشیم و از حاصل زحمت خود لذّت ببریم، زیرا همهٔ اینها بخشش و نعمت خداست.

¹⁴I know that whatever God doeth, it shall be for ever; there is nothing to be added to it, nor anything to be taken from it; and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him.

¹⁴ می‌دانم که کارهای خدا پایدار و تغییر ناپذیرند. کسی نمی‌تواند به آنها چیزی بیافزاید و یا چیزی از آنها کم کند. منظور خدا از انجام این کارها فقط اینست که انسان از او بترسد.

¹⁵That which is was long ago, and that which is to be hath already been; and God bringeth back again that which is past.

¹⁵ هر چیزی که اکنون هست و یا در آینده دیده شود، در گذشته وجود داشته است. خدا آنچه را که در گذشته انجام داده است، تکرار می‌کند.

¹⁶And moreover I saw under the sun, that in the place of judgment, wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, wickedness was there.

¹⁶ علاوه بر این، دیدم که در این دنیا بی‌عدالتی و بی‌انصافی جای عدالت و انصاف را گرفته است.

¹⁷I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

¹⁷ به خود گفتم: «خدا در وقت مناسب هر کار خوب یا بد انسان را داوری خواهد کرد.»

¹⁸I said in my heart, It is thus with the children of men, that God may prove them, and that they should see that they themselves are but beasts.

¹⁸ دانستم که خدا انسان را می‌آزماید تا به او بفهماند که بهتر از حیوان نیست.

¹⁹For what befalleth the children of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other, and they have all one breath; and man hath no pre-eminence above the beast: for all is vanity.

¹⁹ زیرا سرنوشت انسان و حیوان یکسان است. مانند هم می‌میرند و مثل هم نفس می‌کشند و انسان بر حیوان برتری ندارد، همه‌چیز بیهوده است.

²⁰All go unto one place: all are of the dust, and all return to dust.

²⁰ انسان و حیوان، هر دو به یک‌‌جا می‌روند. هر دو از خاک به وجود آمده‌اند و به خاک بر می‌گردند.

²¹Who knoweth the spirit of the children of men? Doth it go upwards? and the spirit of the beasts, doth it go downwards to the earth?

²¹ چه کسی می‌تواند ثابت کند که روح انسان به عالم بالا می‌رود و روح حیوان به زیر زمین؟ پس فهمیدم که بهتر است انسان از کاری که می‌کند، لذّت ببرد. زیرا سرنوشتش همین است و کسی نیست که بتواند او را پس از مرگ بازگرداند تا ببیند که چه وقایعی بعد از او در دنیا اتّفاق می‌افتد.

²²And I have seen that there is nothing better than that man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion; for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

²² پس فهمیدم که بهتر است انسان از کاری که می‌کند، لذّت ببرد. زیرا سرنوشتش همین است و کسی نیست که بتواند او را پس از مرگ بازگرداند تا ببیند که چه وقایعی بعد از او در دنیا اتّفاق می‌افتد.
