¹Woe to the rebellious children, saith Jehovah, who take counsel, but not of me, and who make leagues, but not by my Spirit, that they may heap sin upon sin;

¹ خداوند گفته است: «وای بر کسانی‌که بر یهودا حکومت می‌کنند، آنها برضد من شوریده‌اند. آنها از نقشه‌هایی پیروی می‌کنند که نقشهٔ من نیست، و پیمانهایی را خلاف ارادهٔ من می‌بندند و گناهی بر گناه دیگر انباشته‌ می‌کنند.

²who walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked of my mouth, -- to take refuge under the protection of Pharaoh, and trust in the shadow of Egypt!

² آنها بدون آنکه با من مشورت کنند، برای کمک به مصر می‌روند. آنها می‌خواهند مصر از‌ آنها حمایت کند، پس تمام امید و اطمینانشان بر فرعون است.

³For to you the protection of Pharaoh shall be a shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt a confusion.

³ امّا فرعون‌ فاقد قدرت است و نمی‌تواند به آنها کمک کند و حمایت مصر با ناکامی پایان خواهد یافت.

⁴For his princes were at Zoan, and his ambassadors came to Hanes.

⁴ هرچند سفیران آنها، هم اکنون به شهرهای مصر -‌صوعن و حانیس- وارد شده‌اند.

⁵They were all ashamed of a people [that] did not profit them, nor were a help or profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

⁵ مردم یهودا از اینکه به چنین ملّتِ غیرقابل‌ اعتمادی -‌به ملّتی که در وقت نیاز آنها را ناامید می‌کند- اعتماد کردند، پشیمان خواهند شد.»

⁶-- The burden of the beasts of the south: Through a land of trouble and anguish, whence come the lioness and lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to the people that shall not profit [them].

⁶ این است پیام خدا دربارهٔ حیوانات صحرای جنوبی: «سفیران از سرزمین خطرناکی عبور می‌کنند، جایی‌که محل زندگی شیرها، مارهای سمّی و پرنده است. آنها هدایای گران‌قیمت خود را بر پشت الاغها و شترها بار کرده و به پیش ملّتی می‌برند که نمی‌تواند به آنها هیچ کمکی کند.

⁷For Egypt shall help in vain, and to no purpose; therefore have I named her, Arrogance, that doeth nothing.

⁷ کمكی که مصر می‌کند بی‌ارزش است. از این رو من مصر را 'راهاب (هیولای دریایی) بی‌آزار' نامیده‌ام.»

⁸Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and record it in a book, that it may be for the time to come, as a witness for ever,

⁸ خدا به من گفت در کتابی بنویسم که مردم چگونه‌اند تا برای ابد ثبت شود که آنها چقدر شریرند.

⁹that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of Jehovah;

⁹ آنها همیشه برضد خدا شورش می‌کنند، همیشه دروغ می‌گویند و هیچ‌وقت گوش به تعالیم خداوند نمی‌دهند.

¹⁰who say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things; speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits;

¹⁰ آنهایی که به انبیا می‌گویند ساکت بمانند. آنها می‌گویند: «دربارهٔ درستکاری سخن نگویید. آنچه را می‌خواهیم بشنویم به ما بگویید. بگذارید در توهّم خود باقی بمانیم.

¹¹get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us!

¹¹ از سرراه ما دور شوید و راه ما را سدّ نکنید. ما نمی‌خواهیم دربارهٔ خدای قدّوس اسرائیل که شما تعلیم می‌دهید چیزی بشنویم.»

¹²Therefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel: Because ye reject this word, and confide in oppression and wilfulness, and depend thereon,

¹² این است آنچه خدای قدّوس اسرائیل می‌گوید: «به آنچه می‌گویم توجّه نمی‌کنید و به خشونت و فریب متّکی هستید.

¹³therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a towering wall, whose breaking shall come suddenly in an instant.

¹³ شما در عذاب وجدان هستید. شما مانند دیوار بلندی هستید که از بالا تا پایین ترک خورده و ناگهان فرو خواهد ریخت.

¹⁴And he shall break it as the breaking of a potter's vessel, that is broken in pieces unsparingly; and in the pieces of it there shall not be found a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to scoop water out of the cistern.

¹⁴ مثل یک کوزهٔ گِلی خواهید شکست و چنان خُرد خواهید شد که هیچ قطعهٔ آن، آن‌قدر بزرگ نخواهد بود که با آن یک زغال گداخته را برداشت یا با آن جرعه‌ای آب نوشید.»

¹⁵For thus saith the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest shall ye be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be your strength; but ye would not.

¹⁵ خداوند قادر و قدّوس اسرائیل به قوم خود می‌گوید: «بازگردید و با سکوت به من اعتماد کنید، آنگاه قوی و در امنیّت خواهید بود.» امّا شما حرف او را رد می‌کنید.

¹⁶And ye said, No, but we will flee upon horses, -- therefore shall ye flee; and, We will ride upon the swift, -- therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

¹⁶ در عوض، در این فکر هستید که با اسبان تیزپا از دست دشمنان فرار کنید. درست است! باید فرار کنید! تصوّر می‌کنید که اسبان شما سریع می‌دوند، امّا اسبهای کسانی‌که شما را تعقیب می‌کنند، سریعتر هستند.

¹⁷One thousand [shall flee] at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as a banner on a hill.

¹⁷ وقتی فقط یک سرباز دشمن را ببینید، هزار نفر از شما پا به فرار می‌‌گذارید، و فقط پنج سرباز کافی است که همهٔ شما را فراری دهد. از سپاه شما چیزی جز چوب پرچم شما بر فراز تپّه‌ باقی نخواهد ماند.

¹⁸And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he lift himself up, that he may have mercy upon you; for Jehovah is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

¹⁸ با وجوداین خداوند آماده است که بر شما رحم کند. او حاضر است بر شما شفقت کند، چون همیشه آنچه را که درست است، انجام می‌دهد. خوشا به‌ حال کسانی‌که به خداوند توکّل می‌کنند.

¹⁹For the people shall dwell in Zion, at Jerusalem. Thou shalt weep no more; he will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; as he heareth it, he will answer thee.

¹⁹ ای مردمی که در اورشلیم زندگی می‌کنید، شما دیگر گریان نخواهید بود. خداوند مهربان است، و وقتی با گریه و زاری به درگاه او برای کمک می‌روید او به شما پاسخ خواهد داد.

²⁰And the Lord will give you the bread of adversity, and the water of oppression; yet thy teachers shall not be hidden any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers.

²⁰ خداوند روزهای سختی را در پیش شما گذاشته است، امّا خودش به عنوان معلّمتان در آنجا با شما خواهد بود، و دیگر لازم نیست او را بجویید.

²¹And when ye turn to the right hand or when ye turn to the left, thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it.

²¹ اگر به راست یا چپ منحرف شوید صدای او را از پشت سر خواهید شنید که می‌گوید: «این راه من است، به این طرف بروید.»

²²And ye shall defile the silver covering of your graven images, and the gold overlaying of your molten images; thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth: Out! shalt thou say unto it.

²² تمام شمایل و بُتهای خودتان را که با روکش نقره و طلا پوشیده شده‌اند، خواهید برداشت و مثل چیزی کثیف دور خواهید انداخت، و با صدای بلند خواهید ‌گفت: «از نظرم دور شو.»

²³And he will give the rain of thy seed with which thou shalt sow the ground; and bread, the produce of the ground, and it shall be fat and rich. In that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures;

²³ هر وقت غلّهٔ خود را می‌کارید، خداوند باران می‌فرستد تا آنها رشد کنند و محصول فراوانی بدهند، و گاو و گوسفند شما علف زیادی برای چریدن خواهند داشت.

²⁴and the oxen and the asses that till the ground shall eat salted provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.

²⁴ گاوها و الاغهای شما که زمین را شخم می‌زنند تازه‌ترین و بهترین علوفه را خواهند خورد.

²⁵And there shall be upon every high mountain and upon every hill that is lifted up, brooks [and] water-courses, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

²⁵ در روزی که قلعه‌های دشمنان شما تسخیر شوند و مردمش کشته شوند، نهرهای آب از هر کوه و تلّی جاری خواهد شد.

²⁶And the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that Jehovah bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the wound of their stroke.

²⁶ نور ماه مثل نور خورشید روشنی می‌بخشد، و نور خورشید هفت برابر بیشتر خواهد شد، و در یک روز به اندازهٔ هفت روز نور خواهد داد. همهٔ اینها وقتی واقع می‌شود که خداوند تمام زخمهایی را که به قوم خویش روا داشت، مرهم بگذارد و شفا دهد.

²⁷Behold, the name of Jehovah cometh from far, burning [with] his anger -- a grievous conflagration; his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a consuming fire;

²⁷ قدرت و جلال خداوند از مسافتهای دور دیده می‌شود. آتش و دود نشانهٔ خشم اوست. او سخن می‌گوید و کلامش مثل آتش می‌سوزاند.

²⁸and his breath as an overflowing torrent, which reacheth even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction, and [to put] a bridle into the jaws of the peoples, that causeth them to go astray.

²⁸ او باد را پیشاپیش خود مثل سیلی که همه‌چیز را می‌شوید و با خود می‌برد، خواهد فرستاد. او ملّتها را به هلاکت می‌رساند و به نقشه‌های شریرانهٔ آنها پایان خواهد داد.

²⁹Ye shall have a song, as in the night when a feast is sanctified; and joy of heart, as of one who goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel.

²⁹ امّا شما، قوم خداوند، خوشحال خواهید بود-و با شادی خواهید سرایید - مثل شب عید. شما مثل کسانی‌که با نواختن نی به سوی معبد بزرگ خداوند، مدافع قوم اسرائیل می‌دوند، احساس شادی خواهید کرد.

³⁰And Jehovah will cause the majesty of his voice to be heard, and will shew the lighting down of his arm with indignation of anger, and a flame of consuming fire, with waterflood and storm and hailstones.

³⁰ خداوند می‌گذارد همه صدای مُلوکانهٔ او را بشنوند و قدرت خشم او را احساس کنند. در شعله‌های آتش، در رگبار باران، در توفان تگرگ و بارانهای سیل‌آسا.

³¹For through the voice of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be broken down: he will smite [him] with the rod.

³¹ مردمان آشور وقتی صدای خداوند را بشنوند و قدرت مجازات او را حس کنند به وحشت خواهند افتاد.

³²And wherever shall pass the appointed staff, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, it shall be with tambours and harps; and with tumultuous battles will he fight with it.

³² وقتی خداوند ضربات پی‌درپی خود را به آنها وارد می‌آورد، قوم او با نواختن طبل و چنگ، وقت می‌گذرانند. خدا خودش با مردم آشور خواهد جنگید. از قدیم جایی با آتشی عظیم برای سوزاندن امپراتور آشور فراهم شده بود. آن، مکانی است عمیق و عریض و پرشده از هیزم. خداوند می‌دمد و نَفَس او مثل شعله‌‌‌ای، تمام آن مکان را به آتش می‌کشد.

³³For Topheth is prepared of old; for the king also it is prepared: he hath made it deep and large; its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

³³ از قدیم جایی با آتشی عظیم برای سوزاندن امپراتور آشور فراهم شده بود. آن، مکانی است عمیق و عریض و پرشده از هیزم. خداوند می‌دمد و نَفَس او مثل شعله‌‌‌ای، تمام آن مکان را به آتش می‌کشد.
