1At that time Merodach-Baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent a letter and a present to Hezekiah; for he had heard that he had been sick and had recovered.

مقارن همان روزها مردوک بالادان -پسر بالادان- پادشاه بابل شنید که حزقیای پادشاه مریض بوده و شفا یافته است. از این رو نامهای همراه با یک هدیه برای او فرستاد.
2And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver and the gold, and the spices and the fine oil, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found amongst his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah did not shew them.

حزقیا آنها را با خوشحالی پذیرفت و تمام ثروت خود یعنی ذخایر نقره، طلا، ادویهجات، عطریّات و مهمّات جنگی خود را به آنها نشان داد. چیزی در انبارها و خزائن او در سرتاسر مملکت وجود نداشت که به آنها نشان نداده باشد.
3Then came the prophet Isaiah to king Hezekiah, and said to him, What said these men? and from whence came they to thee? And Hezekiah said, They came from a far country to me, from Babylon.

آنگاه اشعیای نبی پیش حزقیای پادشاه رفت و از او پرسید: «آنها از کجا آمده بودند و به تو چه گفتند؟»
حزقیا گفت: «آنها از سرزمین دور دست، از بابل آمده بودند.»
4And he said, What have they seen in thy house? And Hezekiah said, All that is in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewn them.

«آنها در کاخ تو چه دیدند؟»
«حزقیا پاسخ داد: آنها همهچیز را دیدند. چیزی در انبارها نبود که من به آنها نشان نداده باشم.»
5And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovah of hosts:

آنگاه اشعیا به پادشاه گفت: «خداوند متعال میگوید
6Behold, days come when all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith Jehovah.

روزی خواهد آمد که هرچه در این کاخ وجود دارد -هرچه اجداد تو تا به امروز جمع کردهاند- همهچیز به بابل برده خواهد شد، و هیچ چیز باقی نخواهد ماند.
7And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, whom thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

بعضی از فرزندان تو را هم خواهند برد. آنها را اخته میکنند و به صورت خواجه در کاخ پادشاه بابل خدمت خواهند کرد.»
حزقیای پادشاه این پیام را چنین تعبیر کرد که در زمان زندگی خودش صلح و امنیّت برقرار خواهد بود. پس در جواب گفت: «پیامی که از جانب خداوند آوردهای، نیکوست.»
8And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, Good is the word of Jehovah which thou hast spoken. And he said, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.

حزقیای پادشاه این پیام را چنین تعبیر کرد که در زمان زندگی خودش صلح و امنیّت برقرار خواهد بود. پس در جواب گفت: «پیامی که از جانب خداوند آوردهای، نیکوست.»
