¹Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and declare unto my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.

¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «صدای خود را بلند کن و فریاد بزن! به قوم من اسرائیل بگو، دربارهٔ گناهانشان به آنها بگو!

²Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that doeth righteousness, and hath not forsaken the ordinance of their God; they ask of me the ordinances of righteousness, they take delight in approaching to God:

² آنها هر روز برای عبادت به نزد من می‌آیند، و می‌گویند که مشتاقند راهها و تعالیم مرا بدانند. آنها می‌گویند از من قوانین عادلانه می‌خواهند، واز پرستش خدای خود خشنود هستند.»

³-- Wherefore have we fasted, and thou seest not; have afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find what pleaseth [you], and exact all your labours.

³ مردم می‌پرسند: «اگر خداوند توجّهی ندارد، چرا ما باید روزه بگیریم؟ اگر او اعتنایی ندارد، چرا ما باید بدون غذا زندگی کنیم؟» خداوند به آنها می‌گوید: «حقیقت این است که شما در همان وقتی‌که روزه می‌گیرید، به فکر منافع خود می‌باشید و به کارگران خود ستم می‌کنید.

⁴Behold, ye have fasted for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness; ye do not at present fast, to cause your voice to be heard on high.

⁴ روزهٔ شما، شما را پرخاشگر ساخته و همیشه در جنگ و جدال هستید. آیا فکر می‌کنید، این نوع روزه باعث می‌شود من به دعای شما گوش کنم؟

⁵Is such the fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his soul, -- that he should bow down his head as a bulrush, and spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? Wilt thou call this a fast, and a day acceptable to Jehovah?

⁵ وقتی شما روزه می‌گیرید، بدن خود را رنجور و سرهای خود را مثل پره‌های علف صحرا در برابر باد، خَم می‌کنید، و بستر خود را بر پلاس و خاکستر می‌گسترانید. آیا این است آنچه را که شما روزه می‌نامید؟ آیا فکر می‌کنید من از این نوع روزه خشنودم؟

⁶Is not this the fast which I have chosen: to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the thongs of the yoke, and to send forth free the crushed, and that ye break every yoke?

⁶ «روزه‌ای ‌که من می‌پسندم این است: زنجیرهای ستمکاری و یوغهای بی‌عدالتی را بگسلید، و بگذارید ستمدیدگان آزاد شوند.

⁷Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring to thy house the needy wanderers; when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

⁷ گرسنگان را در غذای خود سهیم کنید، و درِ خانه‌های خود را به روی فقیران و بی‌خانمانان باز کنید. به کسانی‌که چیزی برای پوشیدن ندارند، لباس بدهید و از کمک کردن به اقوام خود دریغ نکنید.

⁸Then shall thy light break forth as the dawn, and thy health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee, the glory of Jehovah shall be thy rearguard.

⁸ «در آن صورت، رحمت من مثل خورشید صبحگاهی بر تو خواهد درخشید، و زخمهای تو زود شفا خواهند یافت. من همیشه با تو خواهم بود و تو را نجات خواهم داد، و حضور من تو را از هر جهت حمایت خواهد کرد.

⁹Then shalt thou call, and Jehovah will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and the unjust speech,

⁹ وقتی دعا کنید به شما پاسخ خواهم داد، و وقتی مرا بخوانید به شما جواب می‌دهم. «اگر به ستمگری، رفتار ناشایست و گفتار زشت خود خاتمه دهید؛

¹⁰and thou proffer thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then shall thy light rise in the darkness, and thine obscurity be as midday;

¹⁰ و اگر گرسنگان را سیر کنید، و نیاز محتاجان را برآورید، آنگاه تیره‌گی‌های اطراف شما، به روشنایی نیمروز مبدل خواهد شد

¹¹and Jehovah will guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and strengthen thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a water-spring, whose waters deceive not.

¹¹ در آن صورت همیشه شما را در مکانهای خشک هدایت می‌کنم و شما را با چیزهای نیکو سیر خواهم کرد. من شما را قوی و سالم نگاه خواهم داشت و شما مثل باغی خواهید بود که آب فراوان دارد، و مثل چشمه‌ای که هیچ‌وقت خشک نخواهد شد.

¹²And they [that come] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations [that have remained] from generation to generation; and thou shalt be called, Repairer of the breaches, restorer of frequented paths.

¹² قوم تو در همان جایی که از قدیم ویران شده بود، بر روی بنیادهای قدیمی، بنایی نو خواهد ساخت. مردم از تو به عنوان کسی یاد خواهند کرد که دیوارهای شهر را دوباره ساخت و خانه‌های ویران را بازسازی کرد.»

¹³If thou turn back thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the sabbath a delight, the holy [day] of Jehovah, honourable; and thou honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [idle] words;

¹³ خداوند می‌گوید: «اگر تو سبت را به عنوان یک روز مقدّس نگه داری و در آن روز در پی منافع خود نباشی، اگر برای روز مقدّس من ارزش قایل شوی و از سفر، کار و صحبتهای بیهوده خودداری کنی، آنگاه آن شادمانی که از خدمت کردن به من عاید می‌شود، از آن شما خواهد بود. کاری می‌کنم که در سراسر عالم مردم حرمت شما را نگاه دارند و از سرزمینی که من به جدّ تو -‌یعقوب- دادم لذّت ببری. من، خداوند، این را گفته‌ام.»

¹⁴then shalt thou delight thyself in Jehovah, and I will cause thee to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.

¹⁴ آنگاه آن شادمانی که از خدمت کردن به من عاید می‌شود، از آن شما خواهد بود. کاری می‌کنم که در سراسر عالم مردم حرمت شما را نگاه دارند و از سرزمینی که من به جدّ تو -‌یعقوب- دادم لذّت ببری. من، خداوند، این را گفته‌ام.»
