¹The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹ مردم بدکار می‌گریزند، درحالی‌که کسی آنها را تعقیب نمی‌کند، امّا اشخاص درستکار مثل شیر، شجاع هستند.

²By the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof; but by a man of understanding [and] of knowledge, [its] stability is prolonged.

² وقتی ملّتی گرفتار شورش می‌شود، دولتش به آسانی سرنگون می‌گردد، امّا رهبران درستکار و عاقل مایهٔ ثبات مملکت هستند.

³A poor man who oppresseth the helpless is a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

³ حاکمی که بر فقرا ظلم می‌کند، مانند باران شدیدی است که محصول را از بین می‌برد.

⁴They that forsake the law praise the wicked; but such as keep the law contend with them.

⁴ قانون شکنی، ستایش شریران است؛ امّا اطاعت از قانون، مبارزه با آنها می‌باشد.

⁵Evil men understand not judgment; but they that seek Jehovah understand everything.

⁵ عدالت برای مردم بدکار بی‌معنی است، امّا پیروان خداوند اهمیّت آن را به خوبی می‌دانند.

⁶Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse, double in ways, though he be rich.

⁶ انسان بهتر است فقیر و درستکار باشد، از اینکه ثروتمند و فریبکار.

⁷Whoso observeth the law is a son that hath understanding; but he that is a companion of profligates bringeth shame to his father.

⁷ جوانی که از قانون الهی اطاعت می‌کند، عاقل است؛ امّا کسی‌که همنشین مردم شریر می‌شود، باعث ننگ والدین خود می‌شود.

⁸He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance gathereth it for him that is gracious to the poor.

⁸ مالی که از راه ربا و سودجویی از فقرا حاصل شود، عاقبت به دست کسی می‌افتد که بر فقرا رحم می‌کند.

⁹He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

⁹ خدا از دعای کسانی‌که احکام او را اطاعت نمی‌کنند، نفرت دارد.

¹⁰Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way, shall himself fall into his own pit; but the perfect shall inherit good.

¹⁰ هر که دام در راه شخص درستکار بنهد و او را به راه بد بکشاند، عاقبت به دام خود گرفتار می‌شود، امّا اشخاص نیک پاداش خوبی می‌گیرند.

¹¹A rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

¹¹ ثروتمندان خود را عاقل می‌پندارند، امّا فقیر خردمند از باطن آنها باخبر است.

¹²When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men conceal themselves.

¹² وقتی مردمان نیک پیروز می‌شوند، همه خوشی می‌کنند؛ امّا هنگامی‌که شریران به قدرت می‌رسند، مردم پنهان می‌شوند.

¹³He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh [them] shall obtain mercy.

¹³ هر که گناه خود را بپوشاند، هرگز کامیاب نمی‌شود؛ امّا کسی‌که به گناه خود اعتراف کند و از آن دست بکشد، خدا بر او رحم می‌کند.

¹⁴Happy is the man that feareth always; but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into evil.

¹⁴ خوشا به حال کسی‌که از خداوند می‌ترسد، زیرا هر که در برابر خدا سرسختی نشان بدهد، گرفتار بلا و بدبختی می‌شود.

¹⁵A roaring lion, and a ranging bear, is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

¹⁵ مردم بیچاره‌ای که زیر سلطهٔ حاکم ظالمی زندگی می‌کنند، مانند کسانی می‌باشند که گرفتار شیر غرّان و یا خرس گرسنه هستند.

¹⁶The prince void of intelligence is also a great oppressor: he that hateth covetousness shall prolong [his] days.

¹⁶ پادشاه نادان بر مردم ظلم می‌کند، امّا آن پادشاهی که از بی‌عدالتی و رشوه‌خواری نفرت داشته باشد، سلطنتش طولانی خواهد بود.

¹⁷A man laden with the blood of [any] person, fleeth to the pit: let no man stay him.

¹⁷ عذابِ وجدان شخص قاتل، او را به سوی مجازات می‌برد، پس تو سعی نکن که او را از عذابش برهانی.

¹⁸Whoso walketh in integrity shall be saved; but he that is perverted in [his] double ways, shall fall in one [of them].

¹⁸ هر که در راه راست ثابت قدم باشد، در امان می‌ماند؛ امّا کسی‌که به راههای کج برود، به زمین می‌خورد.

¹⁹He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he that followeth the worthless shall have poverty enough.

¹⁹ هر که در زمین خود زراعت کند، نان کافی خواهد داشت، امّا کسی‌که وقت خود را به تنبلی بگذراند، فقیر می‌شود.

²⁰A faithful man aboundeth with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

²⁰ اشخاص درستکار کامیاب می‌شوند، ولی کسانی‌که برای ثروتمند شدن عجله می‌کنند، بی‌سزا نمی‌مانند.

²¹To have respect of persons is not good; but for a piece of bread will a man transgress.

²¹ طرفداری کار درستی نیست، امّا قضاتی هم هستند که به‌خاطر یک لقمه نان بی‌عدالتی می‌کنند.

²²He that hath an evil eye hasteth after wealth, and knoweth not that poverty shall come upon him.

²² آدم خسیس فقط به فکر جمع‌آوری ثروت است، غافل از اینکه فقر در انتظار اوست.

²³He that rebuketh a man shall afterwards find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

²³ اگر اشتباه کسی را به او گوشزد کنی، در آخر بیشتر از کسی‌که پیش او چاپلوسی کرده است، از تو قدردانی خواهد کرد.

²⁴Whoso robbeth his father and his mother, and saith, It is no transgression, the same is the companion of a destroyer.

²⁴ کسی‌که از والدین خود دزدی می‌کند و می‌گوید: «کار بدی نکرده‌ام»، از یک راهزن کمتر نیست.

²⁵He that is puffed up in soul exciteth contention; but he that relieth upon Jehovah shall be made fat.

²⁵ حرص و طمع باعث جنگ و جدال می‌شود، امّا توکّل نمودن بر خداوند، انسان را کامیاب می‌سازد.

²⁶He that confideth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

²⁶ کسی‌که از عقاید خود پیروی می‌کند، احمق است، امّا هر که پیرو تعالیم دانایان باشد، در امان می‌ماند.

²⁷He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that withdraweth his eyes shall have many a curse.

²⁷ اگر به فقرا کمک کنی، هرگز محتاج نمی‌شوی، امّا اگر روی خود را از آنها برگردانی، مورد لعنت قرار می‌گیری. هنگامی‌که شریران به قدرت می‌رسند، مردم پنهان می‌شوند، امّا وقتی آنها سقوط می‌کنند، اشخاص درستکار قدرت را به دست می‌گیرند.

²⁸When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.

²⁸ هنگامی‌که شریران به قدرت می‌رسند، مردم پنهان می‌شوند، امّا وقتی آنها سقوط می‌کنند، اشخاص درستکار قدرت را به دست می‌گیرند.
