¹For behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,

¹nekuti tarirai, Ishe, Jehovha wehondo anotorera Jerusaremu naJudha mutsigiro nomudonzvo, mutsigiro wose wezvokudya, nomutsigiro wose wemvura;

²the mighty man and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, and the diviner and the elder,

²munhu wemhare, nomunhu wehondo; mutongi, nomuporofita, nomuvuki, nomukuru;

³the captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the clever among artificers, and the one versed in enchantments.

³mukuru wamakumi mashanu, nowanokudzwa, namakurukota, nemhizha dzakachenjera, nomuvuki anoziva.

⁴And I will appoint youths as their princes, and children shall rule over them.

⁴Ndichavapa vakomana nhubu vave machinda avo, navacheche vachatonga pamusoro pavo .

⁵And the people shall be oppressed one by the other, and each by his neighbour; the child will be insolent against the elder, and the base against the honourable.

⁵Vanhu vachamanikidzwa, mumwe achimanikidza mumwe, nomumwe nomumwe nowokwake; mwana achava namanyawi kuna vakuru, nowakazvidzwa kunowanokudzwa.

⁶When a man shall take hold of his brother, in his father's house, [and shall say:] Thou hast clothing; be our chief, and let this ruin be under thy hand;

⁶Musi uyo munhu achabata munin'ina wake mumba mababa vake, achiti, Iwe une nguvo, chiva mutongi wedu; kuparadzwa uku ngakugadzirwe noruoko rwako.

⁷he will lift up [his hand] in that day, saying, I cannot be a healer, and in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; ye shall not make me a chief of the people.

⁷Zvino nezuva iro achadanidzira, achiti, Handidi kuva n'anga, nekuti mumba mangu hamune zvokudya nezvokufuka; musandiita mutongi wavanhu.

⁸For Jerusalem stumbleth and Judah falleth, because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

⁸nekuti Jerusaremu raparadzwa, Judha wawa; nekuti marimi avo namabasa avo anopesana naJehovha, kutsamwisa meso ake anokubwinya.

⁹The look of their face doth witness against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom: they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have brought evil upon themselves.

⁹Zvinoonekwa paziso ravo zvinovapupurira; zvivi zvavo vanozvibudisa pachena seSodhoma; havazvivanzi. Mweya yavo ine nhamo, nekuti vakazviitira zvakaipa.

¹⁰Say ye of the righteous that it shall be well [with him], for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

¹⁰Iti pamusoro powakarurama, kuti achava nomufaro; nekuti vachadya zvibereko zvamabasa avo.

¹¹Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill [with him], because the desert of his hands shall be rendered unto him.

¹¹Wakaipa ane nhamo ! Iye haangavi nomufaro, nekuti achapiwa mubayiro wamaoko ake.

¹²[As for] my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. My people! they that guide thee mislead [thee], and destroy the way of thy paths.

¹²Kana vari vanhu vangu, vana ndivo vamanikidzi vavo, vakadzi vanovabata ushe. Haiwa, vanhu vangu, vatungamiriri venyu vanokutadzisai, ndivo vanoparadza nzira dzamaifanira kufamba nadzo.

¹³Jehovah setteth himself to plead, and standeth to judge the peoples.

¹³Jehovha asimuka kutamba mhaka; amire kuti atonge vanhu.

¹⁴Jehovah will enter into judgment with the elders of his people and their princes, [saying:] It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard: the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

¹⁴Jehovha achatonga vakuru vavanhu vake namachinda avo, achiti, Ndimi mapedza munda wemizambiringa; zvakapambwa zvavarombo zviri mudzimba dzenyu.

¹⁵What mean ye that ye crush my people, and grind the faces of the afflicted? saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁵Munoiteiko zvamunopwanya vanhu vangu, muchikuya zviso zvavarombo? Ndizvo zvinotaura Ishe, Jehovha wehondo.

¹⁶And Jehovah said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-out neck and wanton eyes, and go along mincing, and making a tinkling with their feet;

¹⁶Uyezve Jehovha akati, Vakunda veZiyoni zvavana manyawi, vachifamba nemitsipa yakati tasa, vachiita mesomeso, vachifamba vachinzenzeta, zviri pamakumbo avo zvichiti ngwerengwere,

¹⁷therefore the Lord will make bald the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and Jehovah will lay bare their secret parts.

¹⁷naizvozvo Ishe acharova nhongonya dzemisoro yavakunda vaZiyoni negwenyu-kwenyu, Jehovha achafukura miviri yavo.

¹⁸In that day the Lord will take away the ornament of anklets, and the little suns and crescents,

¹⁸Nezuva iro Ishe achabvisa ukomba hwamakumbo avo, nezvizuva nezvimwedzi;

¹⁹the pearl-drops, and the bracelets, and the veils,

¹⁹nezvinoremberedzwa, noungetani hwamaoko, nezvifukidzo;

²⁰the head-dresses, and the stepping chains, and the girdles, and the scent-boxes, and the amulets;

²⁰nezvishongo zvomusoro, noungetani hwamakumbo, nezvisungo, nezvitende zvezvinonhuhwira, namazango;

²¹the finger-rings, and the nose-rings;

²¹nezvimhete, noukomba bwemhino;

²²the festival-robes, and the tunics, and the mantles, and the wallets;

²²nenguvo dzomutambo, nezvijasi, nezvijari, nezvikwama;

²³the mirrors, and the fine linen bodices, and the turbans, and the flowing veils.

²³nezviwoni-woni zvamaoko, nomucheka wakaisvonakal nemicheka yomusoro, nezvifukidzo zvameso.

²⁴And it shall come to pass, instead of perfume there shall be rottenness; and instead of a girdle, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a robe of display, a girding of sackcloth; brand instead of beauty.

²⁴Zvino zvichaitika kuti panzvimbo yezvinonhuhwira pachava nezvinonhuwa; panzvimbo yevhudzi rakarukwa zvakanaka, pachava nemhanza; panzvimbo yenguvo yakaisvonaka, pachava nechisimiro chegudza; nokupiswa kouranda panzvimbo yokunaka.

²⁵Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the fight;

²⁵Varume venyu vachaparadzwa nomunondo, nemhare dzenyu pakurwa.

²⁶and her gates shall lament and mourn; and, stripped, she shall sit upon the ground.

²⁶Masuwo aro achachema nokurira; richaitwa dongo ndokugara pasi.
