Jeremiah

38

1And Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
2Thus saith Jehovah: He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; and he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
2 Yaa no Rabbi ci: Boro kaŋ goro gallo wo ra, takuba nda haray da balaaw no g'a koy wi. Amma boro kaŋ fatta ka koy Kaldancey do, a koy ga funa. A fundo ga ciya a se sanda wongu arzaka, a ga funa mo.
3Thus saith Jehovah: This city shall certainly be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, and he shall take it.
3 Yaa no Rabbi ci: Daahir i ga gallo wo daŋ Babila bonkoono wongu marga kambe ra, a g'a ŋwa mo.
4And the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; for why should he weaken the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking to them according to these words? for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
4 Kala faadancey ne bonkoono se: «Iri ga ni ŋwaaray, ma naŋ i ma boro wo wi, za kaŋ a goono ga wongaarey kaŋ yaŋ cindi gallo ra bine-gaabo da jama kulu bine-gaabo zabu, kaŋ a goono ga sanni woone yaŋ dumi ci i se. Zama manti jama wo baani no bora din goono ga ceeci bo, amma i masiiba.»
5And king Zedekiah said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do a thing against you.
5 Bonkoono Zedeciya mo ne: «Guna, a go araŋ kambe ra.
6Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the guard, and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.
6 Kal i na Irimiya di k'a catu bonkoono izo Malciya guuso ra, kaŋ go batukoy windo ra. I na Irimiya zure nda korfoyaŋ. Guuso binde, hari si no a ra, kala botogo hinne. Irimiya binde sundu botoga ra.
7And Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon -- now the king was sitting in the gate of Benjamin,
7 Amma waato kaŋ Ebed-Melek, Etiyopi boro, mantaw fo no kaŋ go bonkoono windo ra, maa baaru i na Irimiya daŋ guuso ra, bonkoono binde goono ga goro Benyamin Meyo gaa,
8-- and Ebed-melech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,
9My lord, O king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to the prophet Jeremiah, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he will die by reason of the famine in the place where he is; for there is no more bread in the city.
9 «Ya nin, bonkoono ay jine bora, hay kulu kaŋ borey wo te annabi Irimiya se ra, i na goy laalo te kaŋ i n'a catu guuso ra. A ga bu mo nango din kaŋ a go, hara kaŋ goono ga te sabbay se, zama buuru mana cindi gallo ra.»
10And the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
10 Waato din gaa no bonkoono na Ebed-Melek, Etiyopi bora donton. A ne: «Kala ni ma boro waranza sambu ni banda ka koy ka annabi Irimiya candi ka kaa guuso ra, za a mana bu.»
11And Ebed-melech took the men under his order, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old shreds and worn-out clothes, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
A na zaara-zaara fooyaŋ da zaara fumbo-fumbo fooyaŋ sambu noodin k'i zure nda korfoyaŋ Irimiya do.
12And Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, Put, I pray, [these] old shreds and rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
12 Ebed-Melek Etiyopi bora binde ne Irimiya se: «Kala ni ma zaara-zaarey da zaara fumbo-fumbey din daŋ ni fatey cire korfey gaa.» Irimiya binde te yaadin.
13And they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and brought him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
13 I na Irimiya candi da korfey din k'a kaa taray guuso ra. Irimiya binde goro noodin batukoy windo ra.
14And king Zedekiah sent and took the prophet Jeremiah unto him, into the third entry that is in the house of Jehovah; and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing: hide nothing from me.
14 Kala bonkoono Zedeciya donton i ma annabi Irimiya sambu ka kande nga do Rabbi windo me hinzanta ra.
15And Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare [it] unto thee, wilt thou not certainly put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me.
15 Irimiya mo ne Zedeciya se: «D'ay ci ni se, da cimi ni s'ay wi, wala? Amma baa ay na ni no saaware, ni s'a ta.»
16And king Zedekiah swore secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, [As] Jehovah liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
17And Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, Thus saith Jehovah the God of hosts, the God of Israel: If thou wilt freely go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thy house.
17 Kala Irimiya ne Zedeciya se: «Yaa no Rabbi Kundeykoyo, Israyla Irikoyo ci: Hala day ni fatta ka koy Babila bonkoono mayraykoyey do, ni ga du ni fundo, i si gallo wo ton da danji mo. Nin da ni dumo, araŋ ga funa mo.
18But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
18 Amma da ni wangu ka fatta ka koy Babila bonkoono mayraykoyey do, kulu i ga gallo wo daŋ Kaldancey kambe ra. I g'a ton da danji, ni bumbo mo si du ka yana i kambe ra bo.»
19And king Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that have deserted to the Chaldeans, lest they give me over into their hand, and they mock me.
19 Bonkoono Zedeciya binde ne Irimiya se: «Ay ga humburu Yahudancey kaŋ yaŋ bare ka ye Kaldancey do haray, ay ma si furo i kambey ra, i m'ay taabandi mo.»
20And Jeremiah said, They shall not give [thee] over. Hearken, I beseech thee, unto the voice of Jehovah, in that which I speak unto thee; so shall it be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
21But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word which Jehovah hath shewn me:
21 Amma da ni wangu ka fatta, sanno kaŋ Rabbi cab'ay se neeya:
22Behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes; and they shall say, Thy familiar friends have set thee on, and have prevailed over thee; thy feet are sunk in the mire, they are turned away back.
22 Guna, wayborey kulu kaŋ yaŋ cindi Yahuda bonkoono windo ra, i ga fatta nd'ey ka kond'ey Babila bonkoono mayraykoyey do.
23And they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand; for thou shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon, and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
Ni mo no ga ciya gallo wo ton da danji yaŋo sabaabu.»
24And Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
25And if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; and what hath the king said unto thee?
25 Amma da faadancey maa baaru kaŋ ay salaŋ da nin, hala mo i kaa ni do ka ne ni se: ‹Ma bangandi iri se sohõ haŋ kaŋ no ni ci bonkoono se. Ma si tugu iri se, iri mo, iri si ni wi. Ma ci iri se mo haŋ kaŋ no bonkoono ci ni se› --
26then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.
26 kala ni ma ne i se: ‹Ay kond'ay hẽeno bonkoono do no, k'a ŋwaaray i ma si ye nd'ay Yonatan kwaara koyne hal ay ma si koy bu noodin.› »
27-- And all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. And they withdrew quietly from him; for the matter was not reported.
27 Kala faadancey kulu kaa Irimiya do k'a hã. Nga mo ci i se sanney kulu boŋ kaŋ bonkoono na nga lordi nd'a. Ngey mo mana ye ka salaŋ d'a, zama boro kulu mana maa haŋ kaŋ i ci care se.
28And Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
