1Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than a house full of feasting [with] strife.
1சண்டையோடுகூடிய வீடுநிறைந்த கொழுமையான பதார்த்தங்களைப் பார்க்கிலும், அமரிக்கையோடே சாப்பிடும் வெறும் துணிக்கையே நலம்.
2A wise servant shall rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part in the inheritance among the brethren.
2புத்தியுள்ள வேலைக்காரன் இலச்சையுண்டாக்குகிற புத்திரனை ஆண்டு, சகோதரருக்குள்ள சுதந்தரத்தில் பங்கடைவான்.
3The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but Jehovah trieth the hearts.
3வெள்ளியைக் குகையும், பொன்னைப் புடமும் சோதிக்கும்; இருதயங்களைச் சோதிக்கிறவரோ கர்த்தர்.
4The evil-doer giveth heed to iniquitous lips; the liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
4துஷ்டன் அக்கிரம உதடுகள் சொல்வதை உற்றுக்கேட்கிறான்; பொய்யன் கேடுள்ள நாவுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கிறான்.
5Whoso mocketh a poor [man] reproacheth his Maker; he that is glad at calamity shall not be held innocent.
5ஏழையைப் பரியாசம்பண்ணுகிறவன் அவனை உண்டாக்கினவரை நிந்திக்கிறான்; ஆபத்தைக் குறித்துக் களிக்கிறவன் தண்டனைக்குத் தப்பான்.
6Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
6பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகள் முதியோருக்குக் கிரீடம்; பிள்ளைகளின் மேன்மை அவர்கள் பிதாக்களே.
7Excellent speech becometh not a vile [man]; how much less do lying lips a noble!
7மேன்மையானவைகளைப் பேசும் உதடு மூடனுக்குத் தகாது; பொய் பேசும் உதடு பிரபுவுக்கு எவ்வளவேனும் தகாது.
8A gift is a precious stone in the eyes of the possessor: whithersoever it turneth it prospereth.
8பரிதானம் வாங்குகிறவர்களின் பார்வைக்கு அது இரத்தினம் போலிருக்கும்; அது நோக்கும் திசையெல்லாம் காரியம் வாய்க்கும்.
9He that covereth transgression seeketh love; but he that bringeth a matter up again separateth very friends.
9குற்றத்தை மூடுகிறவன் சிநேகத்தை நாடுகிறான்; கேட்டதைச் சொல்லுகிறவன் பிராணசிநேகிதரையும் பிரித்துவிடுகிறான்.
10A reproof entereth more deeply into him that hath understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
10மூடனை நூறடி அடிப்பதைப்பார்க்கிலும், புத்திமானை வாயினால் கண்டிப்பதே அதிகமாய் உறைக்கும்.
11An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion; but a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
11துஷ்டன் கலகத்தையே தேடுகிறான்; குரூரதூதன் அவனுக்கு விரோதமாக அனுப்பப்படுவான்.
12Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man rather than a fool in his folly.
12தன் மதிகேட்டில் திரியும் மதியீனனுக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், குட்டிகளைப் பறிகொடுத்த கரடிக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவது வாசி.
13Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
13நன்மைக்குத் தீமைசெய்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் வீட்டைவிட்டுத் தீமை நீங்காது.
14The beginning of contention is [as] when one letteth out water; therefore leave off strife before it become vehement.
14சண்டையின் ஆரம்பம் மதகைத் திறந்துவிடுகிறதுபோலிருக்கும்; ஆதலால் விவாதம் எழும்புமுன் அதை விட்டுவிடு.
15He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are abomination to Jehovah.
15துன்மார்க்கனை நீதிமானாக்குகிறவனும், நீதிமானைக் குற்றவாளியாக்குகிறவனுமாகிய இவ்விருவரும் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவர்கள்.
16To what purpose is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he] hath no sense?
16ஞானத்தைக் கொள்ளும்படி மூடன் கையிலே ரொக்கம் என்னத்திற்கு? அதின்மேல் அவனுக்கு மனமில்லையே.
17The friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
17சிநேகிதன் எல்லாக் காலத்திலும் சிநேகிப்பான்; இடுக்கணில் உதவவே சகோதரன் பிறந்திருக்கிறான்.
18A senseless man striketh hands, becoming surety for his neighbour.
18புத்தியீனன் தன் சிநேகிதனுக்கு முன்பாகக் கையடித்துக்கொடுத்துப் பிணைப்படுகிறான்.
19He loveth transgression that loveth a quarrel; he that maketh high his gate seeketh destruction.
19வாதுப்பிரியன் பாதகப்பிரியன்; தன் வாசலை உயர்த்திக் கட்டுகிறவன் அழிவை நாடுகிறான்.
20He that hath a perverse heart findeth no good; and he that shifteth about with his tongue falleth into evil.
20மாறுபாடான இருதயமுள்ளவன் நன்மையைக் கண்டடைவதில்லை; புரட்டு நாவுள்ளவன் தீமையில் விழுவான்.
21He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow, and the father of a vile [man] hath no joy.
21மூடபுத்திரனைப் பெறுகிறவன் தனக்குச் சஞ்சலமுண்டாக அவனைப் பெறுகிறான்; மதியீனனுடைய தகப்பனுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியில்லை.
22A joyful heart promoteth healing; but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
22மனமகிழ்ச்சி நல்ல ஒளஷதம்; முறிந்த ஆவியோ எலும்புகளை உலரப்பண்ணும்.
23A wicked [man] taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the paths of judgment.
23துன்மார்க்கன், நீதியின் வழியைப்புரட்ட. மடியிலுள்ள பரிதானத்தை வாங்குகிறான்.
24Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
24ஞானம் புத்திமானுக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கும்; மூடனுடைய கண்களோ பூமியின் கடையாந்தரங்களில் செல்லும்.
25A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
25மூடபுத்திரன் தன் பிதாவுக்குச் சலிப்பும், தன்னைப் பெற்றவர்களுக்குக் கசப்புமானவன்.
26To punish a righteous [man] is not good, nor to strike nobles because of [their] uprightness.
26நீதிமானை தண்டம் பிடிக்கிறதும், நியாயஞ்செய்கிறவனைப் பிரபுக்கள் அடிக்கிறதும் தகுதியல்ல.
27He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of a cool spirit.
27அறிவாளி தன் வார்த்தைகளை அடக்குகிறான்; விவேகி குளிர்ந்த மனமுள்ளவன்.
28Even a fool when he holdeth his peace is reckoned wise, [and] he that shutteth his lips, intelligent.
28பேசாதிருந்தால் மூடனும் ஞானவான் என்று எண்ணப்படுவான்; தன் உதடுகளை மூடுகிறவன் புத்திமான் என்று எண்ணப்படுவான்.
