1As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour beseemeth not a fool.
1உஷ்ணகாலத்திலே உறைந்த பனியும், அறுப்புக்காலத்திலே மழையும் தகாததுபோல, மூடனுக்கு மகிமை தகாது.
2As the sparrow for flitting about, as the swallow for flying, so a curse undeserved shall not come.
2அடைக்கலான் குருவி அலைந்துபோவதுபோலும், தகைவிலான் குருவி பறந்து போவதுபோலும், காரணமில்லாமலிட்ட சாபம் தங்காது.
3A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
3குதிரைக்குச் சவுக்கும், கழுதைக்குக் கடிவாளமும், மூடனுடைய முதுகுக்குப் பிரம்பும் ஏற்றது.
4Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
4மூடனுக்கு அவன் மதியீனத்தின்படி மறுஉத்தரவு கொடாதே; கொடுத்தால் நீயும் அவனைப் போலாவாய்.
5Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
5மூடனுக்கு அவன் மதியீனத்தின்படி மறுஉத்தரவு கொடு; கொடாவிட்டால் அவன் தன் பார்வைக்கு ஞானியாயிருப்பான்.
6He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh damage.
6மூடன் கையிலே செய்தி அனுப்புகிறவன் தன் கால்களையே தறித்துக்கொண்டு நஷ்டத்தை அடைகிறான்.
7The legs of the lame hang loose; so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
7நொண்டியின் கால்கள் குந்திக்குந்தி நடக்கும், அப்படியே மூடரின் வாயிலுள்ள உவமைச்சொல்லும் குந்தும்.
8As a bag of gems in a stoneheap, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
8மூடனுக்குக் கனத்தைக் கொடுக்கிறவன் கவணிலே கல்லைக்கட்டுகிறவன்போலிருப்பான்.
9[As] a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
9மூடன் வாயில் அகப்பட்ட பழமொழி வெறியன் கையில் அகப்பட்ட முள்ளு.
10A master roughly worketh every one: he both hireth the fool and hireth passers-by.
10பெலத்தவன் அனைவரையும் நோகப்பண்ணி, மூடனையும் வேலைகொள்ளுகிறான், மீறி நடக்கிறவர்களையும் வேலைகொள்ளுகிறான்.
11As a dog turneth back to its vomit, [so] a fool repeateth his folly.
11நாயானது தான் கக்கினதைத் தின்னும்படி திரும்புவதுபோல, மூடனும் தன் மூடத்தனத்துக்குத் திரும்புகிறான்.
12Hast thou seen a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
12தன் பார்வைக்கு ஞானியாயிருப்பவனைக் கண்டாயானால், அவனைப்பார்க்கிலும் மூடனைக்குறித்து அதிக நம்பிக்கையாயிருக்கலாம்.
13The sluggard saith, There is a fierce lion in the way; a lion is in the midst of the streets!
13வழியிலே சிங்கம் இருக்கும், நடுவீதியிலே சிங்கம் இருக்கும் என்று சோம்பேறி சொல்லுவான்.
14[As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so the sluggard upon his bed.
14கதவு கீல்முளையில் ஆடுகிறதுபோல, சோம்பேறியும் படுக்கையில் ஆடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான்.
15The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish: it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
15சோம்பேறி தன் கையைக் கலத்திலே வைத்து அதைத் தன் வாய்க்குத் திரும்ப எடுக்க வருத்தப்படுகிறான்.
16A sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven [men] that answer discreetly.
16புத்தியுள்ள மறுஉத்தரவு சொல்லத்தகும் ஏழுபேரைப்பார்க்கிலும் சோம்பேறி தன் பார்வைக்கு அதிக ஞானமுள்ளவன்.
17He that passing by vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
17வழியே போகையில் தனக்கடாத வழக்கில் தலையிடுகிறவன் நாயைக் காதைப் பிடித்திழுக்கிறவனைப் போலிருக்கிறான்.
18As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
18கொள்ளிகளையும் அம்புகளையும் சாவுக்கேதுவானவைகளையும் எறிகிற பைத்தியக்காரன் எப்படியிருக்கிறானோ,
19so is a man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport?
19அப்படியே, தனக்கடுத்தவனை வஞ்சித்து: நான் விளையாட்டுக்கல்லவோ செய்தேன் என்று சொல்லுகிற மனுஷனும் இருக்கிறான்.
20Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no talebearer, the contention ceaseth.
20விறகில்லாமல் நெருப்பு அவியும்; கோள்சொல்லுகிறவனில்லாமல் சண்டை அடங்கும்.
21[As] coals for hot coals, and wood for fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
21கரிகள் தழலுக்கும், விறகு நெருப்புக்கும் ஏதுவானதுபோல, வாதுப்பிரியன் சண்டைகளை மூட்டுகிறதற்கு ஏதுவானவன்.
22The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
22கோள்காரனுடைய வார்த்தைகள் விளையாட்டுப் போலிருக்கும்; ஆனாலும் அவைகள் உள்ளத்திற்குள் தைக்கும்.
23Ardent lips, and a wicked heart, are [as] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
23நேச அனலைக் காண்பிக்கிற உதடுகளோடு கூடிய தீயநெஞ்சம் வெள்ளிப்பூச்சு பூசிய ஓட்டைப்போலிருக்கும்.
24He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him:
24பகைஞன் தன் உள்ளத்தில் கபடத்தை மறைத்து, தன் உதடுகளினால் சூதுபேசுகிறான்.
25when his voice is gracious, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
25அவன் இதம்பேசினாலும் அவனை நம்பாதே; அவன் இருதயத்தில் ஏழு அருவருப்புகள் உண்டு.
26Though [his] hatred is covered by dissimulation, his wickedness shall be made manifest in the congregation.
26பகையை வஞ்சகமாய் மறைத்து வைக்கிறவனெவனோ, அவனுடைய பொல்லாங்கு மகா சபையிலே வெளிப்படுத்தப்படும்.
27Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
27படுகுழியை வெட்டுகிறவன் தானே அதில் விழுவான்; கல்லைப் புரட்டுகிறவன்மேல் அந்தக் கல் திரும்ப விழும்.
28A lying tongue hateth those that are injured by it, and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
28கள்ளநாவு தன்னால் கிலேசப்பட்டவர்களைப் பகைக்கும்; இச்சகம் பேசும் வாய் அழிவை உண்டுபண்ணும்.
