1Thus did Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, a basket of summer-fruit.
1องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าทรงสำแดงแก่ข้าพเจ้าดังนี้ว่า ดูเถิด มีกระจาดผลไม้ฤดูร้อนกระจาดหนึ่ง
2And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer-fruit. And Jehovah said unto me, The end is come upon my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.
2และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "อาโมส เจ้าเห็นอะไร" และข้าพเจ้าทูลว่า "ผลไม้ฤดูร้อนกระจาดหนึ่ง พระเจ้าข้า" แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า "วันสิ้นสุดมาถึงอิสราเอลประชาชนของเราแล้ว เราจะไม่ผ่านเขาไปอีกเลย"
3And the songs of the palace shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah. The dead bodies shall be many; in every place they shall be cast forth. Silence!
3องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า "ในวันนั้น เสียงเพลงในพระวิหารจะเป็นเสียงร่ำไห้ จะมีศพมากมายทุกแห่งทิ้งไว้เงียบๆ"
4Hear this, ye that pant after the needy, even to cause to fail the poor of the land,
4ท่านผู้เหยียบย่ำคนขัดสน ท่านผู้ทำลายคนยากจนแห่งแผ่นดิน จงฟังถ้อยคำนี้
5saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat? making the ephah small and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances for deceit:
5โดยกล่าวว่า "เมื่อไรหนอวันขึ้นค่ำจะหมดไป เราจะได้ขายข้าวของเรา เมื่อไรหนอวันสะบาโตจะพ้นไป เราจะได้เอาข้าวสาลีออกขาย เราจะได้กระทำเอฟาห์ให้ย่อมลง และกระทำเชเขลให้โตขึ้น และหลอกค้าด้วยตาชั่งขี้ฉ้อ
6that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; and that we may sell the refuse of the wheat.
6เพื่อเราจะได้ซื้อคนจนด้วยเงิน และซื้อคนขัดสนด้วยรองเท้าสานคู่หนึ่ง เออ และขายกากข้าวสาลี"
7Jehovah hath sworn by the glory of Jacob, Certainly I will never forget any of their works.
7โดยศักดิ์ศรีของยาโคบ พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปฏิญาณว่า "แน่นอนทีเดียว เราจะไม่ลืมการกระทำของเขาสักอย่างเดียวเป็นนิตย์
8Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? And it shall wholly rise up like the Nile; and it shall surge and sink down, as the river of Egypt.
8แผ่นดินจะไม่หวั่นไหวเพราะเรื่องนี้หรือ ทุกคนที่อาศัยอยู่ในแผ่นดินนั้นจะไม่ไว้ทุกข์หรือ และแผ่นดินนั้นทั้งหมดก็เอ่อขึ้นมาอย่างแม่น้ำ ถูกซัดไปซัดมาและยุบลงอีก เหมือนแม่น้ำแห่งอียิปต์มิใช่หรือ"
9And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the land in the clear day.
9องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า "และต่อมาในวันนั้นเราจะกระทำให้ดวงอาทิตย์ตกในเวลาเที่ยงวัน กระทำให้โลกมืดไปในกลางวันแสกๆ
10And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only [son], and the end thereof as a bitter day.
10เราจะให้การเลี้ยงของเจ้าทั้งหลายกลับเป็นการไว้ทุกข์ และให้เสียงเพลงทั้งสิ้นของเจ้าเป็นคำคร่ำครวญ เราจะนำผ้ากระสอบมาที่เอวของคนทั้งหลาย และศีรษะทั่วไปก็จะล้าน และเราจะกระทำให้เป็นเหมือนการไว้ทุกข์ให้บุตรชายคนเดียวของเขา และวาระสุดท้ายก็จะให้เหมือนวันที่ขมขื่น"
11Behold, days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah.
11องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าตรัสว่า "ดูเถิด วันเวลาก็มาถึง เมื่อเราจะส่งทุพภิกขภัยมาที่แผ่นดิน ไม่ใช่การอดอาหาร หรือการกระหายน้ำ แต่จะอดฟังพระวจะของพระเยโฮวาห์
12And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.
12เขาทั้งหลายจะท่องเที่ยวจากทะเลนี้ไปทะเลโน้น และจากทิศเหนือไปทิศตะวันออก เขาทั้งหลายจะวิ่งไปวิ่งมาเพื่อแสวงหาพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ แต่เขาจะหาไม่พบ
13In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst;
13ในวันนั้น สาวพรหมจารีสวยๆและคนหนุ่มจะสลบไสลเพราะความกระหาย
14they that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, [As] thy god, O Dan, liveth! and, [As] the way of Beer-sheba liveth! even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
14บรรดาผู้ที่ปฏิญาณโดยความบาปแห่งสะมาเรีย และกล่าวว่า `โอ ดานเอ๋ย พระของท่านมีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด' และว่า `พระมรรคาของเบเออร์เชบามีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด' เขาเหล่านี้จะล้มลง และจะไม่ลุกขึ้นอีกเลย"
