¹And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

¹ในปีที่สองแห่งรัชกาลเนบูคัดเนสซาร์ เนบูคัดเนสซาร์ทรงพระสุบิน พระทัยของพระองค์ก็ทรงเป็นทุกข์ บรรทมไม่หลับ

²And the king commanded to call the scribes, and the magicians, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to shew the king his dreams; and they came and stood before the king.

²แล้วกษัตริย์จึงทรงบัญชาให้มีหมายเรียกพวกโหร พวกหมอดู พวกนักวิทยาคม และคนเคลเดียเข้าทูลกษัตริย์ให้รู้เรื่องพระสุบิน เขาทั้งหลายก็เข้ามาเฝ้ากษัตริย์

³And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.

³และกษัตริย์ตรัสกับเขาว่า "เราได้ฝัน และจิตใจของเราก็เป็นทุกข์ อยากรู้ว่าฝันว่ากระไร"

⁴And the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, O king, live for ever! tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

⁴แล้วคนเคลเดียจึงกราบทูลกษัตริย์เป็นภาษาอารัมว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ ขอทรงพระเจริญเป็นนิตย์ ขอทรงเล่าพระสุบินให้แก่พวกผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ แล้วเหล่าข้าพระองค์จะได้ถวายคำแก้พระสุบิน"

⁵The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The command is gone forth from me: If ye do not make known unto me the dream, and its interpretation, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

⁵กษัตริย์ทรงตอบคนเคลเดียว่า "เราจำความฝันนั้นไม่ได้แล้ว ถ้าเจ้าไม่ให้เรารู้ความฝันพร้อมทั้งคำแก้ฝัน เจ้าจะถูกหั่นเป็นชิ้นๆ และบ้านเรือนของเจ้าจะต้องเป็นกองขยะ

⁶But if ye shew the dream and its interpretation, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour; therefore shew me the dream and its interpretation.

⁶แต่ถ้าเจ้าสำแดงความฝันและคำแก้ฝันให้เรา เจ้าจะได้รับของขวัญ รางวัล และเกียรติยศใหญ่ยิ่ง ฉะนั้นจงสำแดงความฝันและคำแก้ฝันให้เรา"

⁷They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

⁷เขาทั้งหลายกราบทูลคำรบสองว่า "ขอกษัตริย์เล่าพระสุบินแก่พวกผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ และเหล่าข้าพระองค์จะถวายคำแก้พระสุบิน พระเจ้าข้า"

⁸The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the word is gone forth from me;

⁸กษัตริย์ทรงตอบว่า "เรารู้เป็นแน่แล้วว่า เจ้าพยายามจะถ่วงเวลาไว้ เพราะเจ้าเห็นว่าเราจำความฝันนั้นไม่ได้แล้ว

⁹but if ye do not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you; for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me its interpretation.

⁹ถ้าเจ้าไม่ให้เรารู้ความฝัน ก็มีคำตัดสินเจ้าอยู่ข้อเดียว เพราะเจ้าทั้งหลายตกลงที่จะพูดเท็จและพูดทุจริตต่อหน้าเรา จนจะมีอะไรเปลี่ยนแปลงไป เพราะฉะนั้นเจ้าจงบอกความฝันให้แก่เรา แล้วเราจึงจะรู้ว่าเจ้าจะถวายคำแก้ความฝันให้เราได้"

¹⁰The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter; therefore there is no king, however great and powerful, that hath asked such a thing of any scribe, or magician, or Chaldean.

¹⁰คนเคลเดียจึงกราบทูลต่อพระพักตร์กษัตริย์ว่า "ไม่มีบุรุษคนใดในพิภพที่จะสำแดงเรื่องกษัตริย์ได้ เพราะฉะนั้นไม่มีกษัตริย์ เจ้านายหรือผู้ปกครองคนใดไต่ถามสิ่งเหล่านี้จากโหร หรือหมอดู หรือคนเคลเดีย

¹¹For the thing that the king demandeth is extraordinary, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

¹¹สิ่งซึ่งกษัตริย์ตรัสถามนั้นยากและไม่มีผู้ใดจะสำแดงแด่กษัตริย์ได้นอกจากพระ ผู้ซึ่งมิได้อยู่กับมนุษย์"

¹²For this cause the king was irritated and very wroth, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

¹²เพราะเรื่องนี้กษัตริย์จึงทรงกริ้วและเกรี้ยวกราดนักและรับสั่งให้ฆ่าพวกนักปราชญ์ทั้งหมดของบาบิโลนเสีย

¹³And the decree went forth that the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to slay them.

¹³เพราะฉะนั้นจึงมีพระราชกฤษฎีกาประกาศไปว่าให้ฆ่านักปราชญ์เสียทั้งหมด เขาจึงเที่ยวหาดาเนียลและพรรคพวกเพื่อจะฆ่าเสีย

¹⁴Then Daniel answered with counsel and prudence to Arioch the chief of the king's bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

¹⁴แล้วดาเนียลก็ตอบอารีโอคหัวหน้าราชองครักษ์ผู้ที่ออกไปเที่ยวฆ่านักปราชญ์ของบาบิโลน ด้วยถ้อยคำแยบคายและปรีชาสามารถ

¹⁵he answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so rigorous from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

¹⁵ท่านถามอารีโอคหัวหน้าว่า "ไฉนพระราชกฤษฎีกาของกษัตริย์จึงเร่งร้อนเล่า" แล้วอารีโอคก็เล่าเรื่องให้ดาเนียลทราบ

¹⁶And Daniel went in, and requested of the king that he would give him time, that he might shew the king the interpretation.

¹⁶แล้วดาเนียลก็เข้าไปเฝ้าและกราบทูลกษัตริย์ขอให้กำหนดเวลาเพื่อท่านจะถวายคำแก้พระสุบินแด่กษัตริย์

¹⁷Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions;

¹⁷แล้วดาเนียลก็กลับไปเรือนของท่าน และแจ้งเรื่องให้ฮานันยาห์ มิชาเอล และอาซาริยาห์สหายของท่านฟัง

¹⁸that they would desire mercies of the God of the heavens concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

¹⁸และบอกเขาให้ขอพระกรุณาแห่งพระเจ้าแห่งฟ้าสวรรค์เรื่องความลึกลับนี้ เพื่อดาเนียลและสหายของท่านจะไม่พินาศพร้อมกับบรรดานักปราชญ์อื่นๆของบาบิโลน

¹⁹Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of the heavens.

¹⁹ในนิมิตกลางคืนทรงเผยความลึกลับนั้นแก่ดาเนียล แล้วดาเนียลก็ถวายสาธุการแด่พระเจ้าแห่งฟ้าสวรรค์

²⁰Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; For wisdom and might are his.

²⁰ดาเนียลกล่าวว่า "สาธุการแด่พระนามของพระเจ้าเป็นนิตย์สืบไป เพราะปัญญาและฤทธานุภาพเป็นของพระองค์

²¹And it is he that changeth times and seasons; He deposeth kings, and setteth up kings; He giveth wisdom to the wise, And knowledge to them that know understanding.

²¹พระองค์ทรงเปลี่ยนวาระและฤดูกาล พระองค์ทรงถอดกษัตริย์และทรงตั้งกษัตริย์ขึ้นใหม่ พระองค์ทรงประทานปัญญาแก่นักปราชญ์ และทรงประทานความรู้แก่ผู้ที่มีความเข้าใจ

²²It is he that revealeth the deep and secret things; He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

²²พระองค์ทรงเผยสิ่งที่ลึกซึ้งและลี้ลับ พระองค์ทรงทราบสิ่งที่อยู่ในความมืด และความสว่างก็อยู่กับพระองค์

²³I thank thee, and I praise thee, O God of my fathers, Who hast given me wisdom and might, And hast made known unto me already what we desired of thee; For thou hast made known unto us the king's matter.

²³โอ พระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษของข้าพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ขออนุโมทนาและสรรเสริญพระองค์ ผู้ทรงประทานปัญญาและกำลังแก่ข้าพระองค์ สิ่งนั้นที่พวกข้าพระองค์ทูลขอ พระองค์ก็ทรงให้ข้าพระองค์รู้แล้ว เพราะพระองค์ได้ทรงสำแดงเรื่องของกษัตริย์ให้แจ้งแก่พวกข้าพระองค์"

²⁴Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus unto him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.

²⁴แล้วดาเนียลก็เข้าไปหาอารีโอคผู้ซึงกษัตริย์แต่งตั้งให้ฆ่านักปราชญ์แห่งบาบิโลน ท่านได้เข้าไปและกล่าวแก่อารีโอคว่าดังนี้ "ขออย่าฆ่านักปราชญ์แห่งบาบิโลน ขอโปรดนำตัวข้าพเจ้าเข้าไปเฝ้ากษัตริย์ และข้าพเจ้าจะถวายคำแก้ฝันแก่กษัตริย์"

²⁵Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him: I have found a man of the sons of the captivity of Judah that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

²⁵แล้วอารีโอคก็รีบนำตัวดาเนียลเข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์ และกราบทูลพระองค์ว่า "ข้าพระองค์ได้พบชายคนหนึ่งในหมู่พวกที่ถูกกวาดเป็นเชลยมาจากยูดาห์ ชายผู้นี้จะให้กษัตริย์ทรงรู้คำแก้พระสุบินได้"

²⁶The king answered and said unto Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream that I have seen, and its interpretation?

²⁶กษัตริย์จึงตรัสแก่ดาเนียลผู้ชื่อว่าเบลเทชัสซาร์ว่า "เจ้าสามารถที่จะให้เรารู้ถึงความฝันที่เราได้ฝันนั้นและคำแก้ได้หรือ"

²⁷Daniel answered in the presence of the king and said, The secret that the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the magicians, the scribes, the astrologers, shew unto the king;

²⁷ดาเนียลกราบทูลต่อพระพักตร์กษัตริย์ว่า "ไม่มีนักปราชญ์ หรือหมอดู หรือโหร หรือหมอดูฤกษ์ยามสำแดงความลึกลับซึ่งกษัตริย์ไต่ถามแด่พระองค์ได้

²⁸but there is a God in the heavens, who revealeth secrets, and maketh known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be at the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed are these:

²⁸แต่มีพระเจ้าองค์หนึ่งในฟ้าสวรรค์ผู้ทรงเผยความลึกลับทั้งหลาย และพระองค์ทรงให้กษัตริย์เนบูคัดเนสซาร์รู้ถึงสิ่งซึ่งจะบังเกิดขึ้นในวารภายหลัง พระสุบินของพระองค์และนิมิตที่ผุดขึ้นในพระเศียรของพระองค์บนพระแท่นนั้นเป็นดังนี้ พระเจ้าข้า

²⁹-- as for thee, O king, thy thoughts arose upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass.

²⁹ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ ขณะเมื่อพระองค์บรรทมอยู่บนพระแท่น พระดำริในเรื่องซึ่งจะบังเกิดมาภายหลังได้ผุดขึ้น และพระองค์นั้นผู้ทรงเผยความลึกลับก็ทรงให้พระองค์รู้ถึงสิ่งที่จะบังเกิดมา

³⁰And as for me, this secret is revealed to me, not by [any] wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation should be made known to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

³⁰ฝ่ายข้าพระองค์ ซึ่งทรงเผยความลึกลับนี้แก่ข้าพระองค์นั้น มิใช่เพราะข้าพระองค์มีปัญญามากกว่าผู้มีชีวิตทั้งหลาย แต่เพื่อกษัตริย์จะทรงรู้คำแก้พระสุบิน และเพื่อพระองค์จะทรงรู้พระดำริในพระทัยของพระองค์

³¹Thou, O king, sawest, and behold, a great image. This image was mighty and its brightness excellent; it stood before thee, and its appearance was terrible.

³¹ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ พระองค์ทอดพระเนตร และดูเถิด มีปฏิมากรขนาดใหญ่ ปฏิมากรนี้ใหญ่และสุกใสยิ่งนัก ตั้งอยู่ต่อเบื้องพระพักตร์พระองค์ และรูปร่างก็น่ากลัว

³²This image's head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

³²เศียรของปฏิมากรนี้เป็นทองคำเนื้อดี อกและแขนเป็นเงิน ท้องและโคนขาเป็นทองสัมฤทธิ์

³³its legs of iron, its feet part of iron and part of clay.

³³ขาเป็นเหล็ก เท้าเป็นเหล็กปนดิน

³⁴Thou sawest till a stone was cut out without hands; and it smote the image upon its feet of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.

³⁴ขณะเมื่อพระองค์ทอดพระเนตร มีหินก้อนหนึ่งถูกตัดออกมามิใช่ด้วยมือ กระทบปฏิมากรที่เท้าอันเป็นเหล็กปนดิน กระทำให้แตกเป็นชิ้นๆ

³⁵Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken in pieces together, and they became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, and no place was found for them. And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

³⁵แล้วส่วนเหล็ก ส่วนดิน ส่วนทองสัมฤทธิ์ ส่วนเงินและส่วนทองคำ ก็แตกเป็นชิ้นๆพร้อมกัน กลายเป็นเหมือนแกลบจากลานนวดข้าวในฤดูร้อน ลมก็พัดพาเอาไป จึงหาร่องรอยไม่พบเสียเลย แต่ก้อนหินที่กระทบปฏิมากรนั้นกลายเป็นภูเขาใหญ่จนเต็มพิภพ

³⁶This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation of it before the king.

³⁶นี่เป็นพระสุบิน พระเจ้าข้า บัดนี้เหล่าข้าพระองค์ขอกราบทูลคำแก้พระสุบินต่อพระพักตร์กษัตริย์

³⁷Thou, O king, art a king of kings, unto whom the God of the heavens hath given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;

³⁷ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ กษัตริย์จอมกษัตริย์ทั้งหลาย ซึ่งพระเจ้าแห่งฟ้าสวรรค์ได้ทรงประทานราชอาณาจักร อานุภาพ ฤทธิ์เดชและสง่าราศี

³⁸and wheresoever the children of men, the beasts of the field, and the fowl of the heavens dwell, he hath given them into thy hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all: thou art this head of gold.

³⁸และได้ทรงมอบไว้ในหัตถ์พระองค์ท่านซึ่งบุตรทั้งหลายของมนุษย์ สัตว์ในทุ่งนาและนกในอากาศไม่ว่ามันจะอาศัยอยู่ ณ ที่ใดๆให้แก่พระองค์ กระทำให้พระองค์ปกครองมันได้ทั้งหมด เศียรทองคำนั้นคือพระองค์เอง

³⁹And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; then another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

³⁹ต่อจากพระองค์ไปจะมีราชอาณาจัดรด้อยกว่าพระองค์ และยังมีราชอาณาจักรที่สาม เป็นทองสัมฤทธิ์ ซึ่งจะปกครองอยู่ทั่วพิภพ

⁴⁰And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth everything, and as iron that breaketh all these, so shall it break in pieces and bruise.

⁴⁰และจะมีราชอาณาจักรที่สี่แข็งแรงดั่งเหล็ก เพราะเหล็กตีสิ่งทั้งหลายให้หักเป็นชิ้นๆและปราบสิ่งทั้งปวงลงได้ ราชอาณาจักรนั้นจะหัก และทุบสิ่งทั้งปวงเหล่านี้ดังเหล็กซึ่งทุบให้แหลก

⁴¹And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potter's clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

⁴¹ดั่งที่พระองค์ทอดพระเนตรเท้าและนิ้วเท้า เท้าเป็นดินช่างหม้อบ้าง เหล็กบ้าง จะเป็นราชอาณาจักรประสม แต่ความแข็งแกร่งของเหล็กจะยังอยู่ในนั้นบ้าง ดังที่พระองค์ทอดพระเนตรเหล็กปนดินเหนียว

⁴²And [as] the toes of the feet were part of iron and part of clay, the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.

⁴²และนิ้วเท้าเป็นเหล็กปนดินฉันใด ราชอาณาจักรนั้นจึงแข็งแรงบ้างเปราะบ้างฉันนั้น

⁴³And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay.

⁴³ดังที่พระองค์ทอดพระเนตรเหล็กปนดินเหนียว ราชอาณาจักรจะปนกันด้วยเชื้อสายของมนุษย์ แต่จะไม่ยึดกันแน่นไว้ได้อย่างเดียวกับที่เหล็กไม่ประสมเข้ากับดิน

⁴⁴And in the days of these kings shall the God of the heavens set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the sovereignty thereof shall not be left to another people: it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, but itself shall stand for ever.

⁴⁴และในสมัยของกษัตริย์เหล่านั้น พระเจ้าแห่งฟ้าสวรรค์จะทรงสถาปนาราชอาณาจักรหนึ่ง ซึ่งไม่มีวันทำลายเสียได้ หรือราชอาณาจักรนั้นจะไม่ตกไปแก่ชนชาติอื่น ราชอาณาจักรนั้นจะกระทำให้บรรดาราชอาณาจักรเหล่านี้แตกเป็นชิ้นๆถึงอวสาน และราชอาณาจักรนั้นจะตั้งมั่นอยู่เป็นนิตย์

⁴⁵Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold, -- the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. And the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure.

⁴⁵ดังที่พระองค์ทอดพระเนตรก้อนหินถูกตัดออกจากภูเขามิใช่ด้วยมือ และก้อนหินนั้นได้กระทำให้เหล็ก ทองสัมฤทธิ์ ดิน เงิน และทองคำแตกเป็นชิ้นๆ พระเจ้ายิ่งใหญ่ได้ทรงให้กษัตริย์รู้ว่าอะไรจะบังเกิดมาภายหลังนี้ พระสุบินนั้นเที่ยงแท้และคำแก้พระสุบินก็แน่นอน"

⁴⁶Then king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

⁴⁶แล้วกษัตริย์เนบูคัดเนสซาร์ก็ทรงกราบลงและเคารพดาเนียล และมีพระบัญชาให้นำเครื่องบูชาและเครื่องหอมมาถวายดาเนียล

⁴⁷The king answered Daniel and said, Of a truth it is that your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, because thou wast able to reveal this secret.

⁴⁷กษัตริย์ตรัสกับดาเนียลว่า "แน่นอนทีเดียว พระเจ้าของท่านเป็นพระเจ้าของพระทั้งหลาย และทรงเป็นองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของกษัตริย์ทั้งปวง ทรงเป็นผู้เผยความลึกลับเพราะท่านสามารถที่จะเผยความลึกลับนี้ได้"

⁴⁸Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

⁴⁸ฝ่ายกษัตริย์ก็พระราชทานยศชั้นสูง และของพระราชทานยิ่งใหญ่เป็นอันมากแก่ดาเนียล และแต่งตั้งให้เป็นผู้ครอบครองหมดเมืองบาบิโลน และเป็นประธานใหญ่ของนักปราชญ์ทั้งสิ้นแห่งบาบิโลน

⁴⁹And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon. And Daniel was in the gate of the king.

⁴⁹ดาเนียลก็กราบทูลขอต่อกษัตริย์และพระองค์ทรงตั้งให้ชัดรัค เมชาคและเอเบดเนโกเป็นผู้จัดธุรกิจในเมืองบาบิโลน แต่ดาเนียลยังคงอยู่ในราชสำนัก
