¹Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his nobles, and drank wine before the thousand.

¹กษัตริย์เบลชัสซาร์ได้ทรงจัดการเลี้ยงใหญ่แก่เจ้านายหนึ่งพันคน และเสวยเหล้าองุ่นต่อหน้าคนหนึ่งพันนั้น

²Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines, might drink in them.

²เมื่อเบลชัสซาร์ทรงลิ้มรสเหล้าองุ่นแล้ว จึงมีพระบัญชาให้นำภาชนะทองคำและเงินซึ่งเนบูคัดเนสซาร์ราชบิดาได้ทรงกวาดมาจากพระวิหารในกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม ออกมาให้กษัตริย์และเจ้านายของพระองค์ ทั้งพระสนมและนางห้ามจะได้ใช้ใส่เหล้าดื่ม

³Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines, drank in them.

³เขาทั้งหลายจึงนำภาชนะทองคำซึ่งได้กวาดมาจากพระวิหาร คือพระนิเวศของพระเจ้าในกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม และกษัตริย์และเจ้านายของพระองค์ ทั้งพระสนมและนางห้ามก็ได้ดื่มจากภาชนะเหล่านั้น

⁴They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

⁴เขาทั้งหลายดื่มเหล้าองุ่นและสรรเสริญพระที่ทำด้วยทองคำ เงิน ทองสัมฤทธิ์ เหล็ก ไม้และหิน

⁵In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

⁵ในทันใดนั้น นิ้วมือคนได้ปรากฏขึ้น และเขียนลงที่ผนังของพระราชวังของกษัตริย์ตรงข้ามกับคันประทีป และกษัตริย์ก็ทอดพระเนตรมือที่เขียนนั้น

⁶Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

⁶แล้วสีพระพักตร์ของกษัตริย์ก็เปลี่ยนไป พระดำริของพระองค์กระทำให้พระองค์ตกพระทัย พระเพลาก็อ่อนเปลี้ย พระชานุก็กระทบกัน

⁷The king cried aloud to bring in the magicians, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

⁷กษัตริย์รับสั่งเสียงดัง ให้นำหมอดูและคนเคลเดีย และหมอดูฤกษ์ยามเข้ามาเฝ้า และกษัตริย์ตรัสกับพวกนักปราชญ์กรุงบาบิโลนว่า "ผู้ที่อ่านข้อเขียนนี้และแปลความให้เราได้ เราจะให้ผู้นั้นสวมเสื้อสีม่วง และสวมสร้อยคอทองคำ และเราจะตั้งให้เป็นอุปราชตรีในราชอาณาจักรของเรา"

⁸Then came in all the king's wise men, but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.

⁸แล้วพวกนักปราชญ์ของกษัตริย์ก็เข้ามาทั้งหมด แต่เขาทั้งหลายอ่านข้อเขียน หรือแปลความหมายให้กษัตริย์ทรงทราบหาได้ไม่

⁹Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his nobles were confounded.

⁹แล้วกษัตริย์เบลชัสซาร์ก็ตกพระทัยมาก และสีพระพักตร์ของพระองค์ก็เปลี่ยนไป และเจ้านายทั้งหลายของพระองค์ก็สนเท่ห์

¹⁰-- The queen, by reason of the words of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet-house. The queen spoke and said, O king, live for ever! let not thy thoughts trouble thee, neither let thy countenance be changed.

¹⁰ด้วยเหตุพระวาทะของกษัตริย์และเจ้านายทั้งหลาย พระราชินีก็เสด็จเข้ามาในท้องพระโรงการเลี้ยง และพระราชินีทรงมีพระเสาวนีย์ว่า "ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ ขอทรงพระเจริญเป็นนิตย์ ขอพระองค์อย่าได้ตกพระทัย หรือให้สีพระพักตร์ของพระองค์เปลี่ยนไป

¹¹There is a man in thy kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods was found in him; and the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, [even] the king thy father, made him master of the scribes, magicians, Chaldeans, [and] astrologers;

¹¹ในราชอาณาจักรของพระองค์มีชายคนหนึ่ง มีวิญญาณของพระเจ้าผู้บริสุทธิ์ในตัว ในครั้งรัชกาลของพระชนก ความสว่าง ความเข้าใจ และปัญญา เหมือนปัญญาของพระ ได้มีประจำอยู่ที่ชายคนนี้ และกษัตริย์เนบูคัดเนสซาร์พระชนกของพระองค์ คือกษัตริย์พระชนกของพระองค์ ได้ทรงแต่งตั้งให้เขาเป็นประธานใหญ่ของพวกโหร หมอดู คนเคลเดีย และหมอดูฤกษ์ยาม

¹²forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and solving of problems, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.

¹²เพราะว่าดาเนียล ซึ่งกษัตริย์ประทานนามว่า เบลเทชัสซาร์ มีวิญญาณเลิศ มีความรู้และความเข้าใจที่จะแก้ความฝัน แก้ปริศนาและแก้ปัญหาต่างๆ บัดนี้ทรงเรียกดาเนียลให้เข้ามาเฝ้า แล้วเขาก็จะแปลความหมายถวายพระองค์"

¹³Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spoke and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?

¹³เขาจึงนำดาเนียลเข้ามาเฝ้ากษัตริย์ กษัตริย์ตรัสถามดาเนียลว่า "ท่านคือดาเนียลคนนั้นในพวกที่ถูกกวาดเป็นเชลยมาจากประเทศยูดาห์ ที่กษัตริย์เสด็จพ่อของเรานำมาจากยูดาห์หรือ

¹⁴And I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and [that] light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

¹⁴เราได้ยินว่าท่านมีวิญญาณของพระในตัว และท่านมีความสว่าง ความเข้าใจและปัญญาเลิศประจำตัว

¹⁵And now the wise men, the magicians, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof; but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing.

¹⁵บัดนี้ เราให้พวกนักปราชญ์ พวกหมอดูมาเข้าเฝ้า เพื่อให้อ่านข้อความนี้ และแปลความหมายให้เรา แต่เขาแปลความหมายของเรื่องราวนี้ไม่ได้

¹⁶But I have heard of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and solve problems. Now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.

¹⁶แต่เราได้ยินว่าท่านให้คำแปลและแก้ปัญหาได้ บัดนี้ถ้าท่านอ่านข้อความและแปลความหมายให้ได้ จะให้ท่านสรวมเสื้อสีม่วง และสรวมสร้อยคอทองคำ และจะตั้งท่านให้เป็นอุปราชตรีในราชอาณาจักร"

¹⁷Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet will I read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

¹⁷แล้วดาเนียลกราบทูลต่อพระพักตร์กษัตริย์ว่า "ขอทรงเก็บของพระราชทานไว้กับพระองค์เถิด และขอทรงพระราชทานรางวัลแก่ผู้อื่น ฝ่ายข้าพระองค์จะขออ่านข้อเขียนถวายกษัตริย์ และถวายคำแปลความหมายให้พระองค์ทรงทราบ

¹⁸O thou king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty;

¹⁸ข้าแต่กษัตริย์ พระเจ้าสูงสุดได้ทรงประทานพระราชอาณาจักร ความยิ่งใหญ่และสง่าราศี และเกียรติยศแด่เนบูคัดเนสซาร์ราชบิดาของพระองค์

¹⁹and for the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he exalted, and whom he would he humbled.

¹⁹และเพราะความยิ่งใหญ่ซึ่งพระองค์ประทานแก่เนบูคัดเนสซาร์ บรรดาชนชาติ ประชาชาติทั้งปวง และภาษาทั้งหลายจึงได้สั่นสะท้านและเกรงขามต่อพระพักตร์พระราชบิดา พระองค์จะทรงประหารผู้ใดก็ทรงประหารเสีย หรือทรงให้ผู้ใดดำรงชีวิตอยู่ก็ทรงให้ดำรงชีวิต พระองค์จะทรงแต่งตั้งผู้ใดก็ทรงแต่งตั้ง พระองค์จะทรงกระทำให้ผู้ใดด้อยลงพระองค์ก็ทรงกระทำ

²⁰But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit hardened unto presumption, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him;

²⁰แต่เมื่อพระทัยของพระบิดาผยองขึ้น ฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณของพระองค์ก็แข็งกระด้างไป จึงทรงประกอบกิจด้วยความเห่อเหิม พระเจ้าทรงถอดพระองค์จากราชบัลลังก์ และทรงริบสง่าราศีของพระองค์ไปเสีย

²¹and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses; they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the Most High God ruleth over the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.

²¹พระเจ้าทรงขับไล่เนบูคัดเนสซาร์ไปจากบุตรทั้งหลายของมนุษย์ และทรงกระทำให้พระทัยของพระองค์ท่านเป็นเหมือนใจสัตว์ป่า และทรงให้อยู่กับลาป่า ทรงให้หญ้าเสวยเหมือนวัว และพระกายของพระองค์ท่านก็เปียกน้ำค้างจากฟ้าสวรรค์ จนกว่าพระองค์รู้ว่าพระเจ้าสูงสุดทรงปกครองราชอาณาจักรของมนุษย์ และทรงแต่งตั้งผู้ที่พระองค์จะทรงปรารถนาให้ปกครอง

²²And thou, Belshazzar, his son, hast not humbled thy heart, although thou knewest all this;

²²ข้าแต่เบลชัสซาร์ พระองค์เป็นราชโอรส แม้พระองค์ทรงทราบเช่นนี้ทั้งสิ้นแล้วก็มิได้ถ่อมพระทัย

²³but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of the heavens; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy nobles, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

²³แต่ทรงยกองค์พระองค์ขึ้นสู้กับองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าแห่งสวรรค์ และทรงให้นำภาชนะแห่งพระนิเวศของพระองค์มาต่อพระพักตร์พระองค์ แล้วพระองค์ พวกเจ้านายของพระองค์ พระสนม และนางห้ามของพระองค์ก็ดื่มเหล้าองุ่นจากภาชนะเหล่านั้น และพระองค์ทรงสรรเสริญพระที่ทำด้วยเงิน ทองคำ ทองสัมฤทธิ์ เหล็ก ไม้ และหิน ซึ่งจะดูหรือฟัง หรือรู้เรื่องก็ไม่ได้ แต่พระองค์มิได้ถวายพระเกียรติแด่พระเจ้าซึ่งลมปราณของพระองค์อยู่ในพระหัตถ์ของพระองค์ และทางทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์ก็ขึ้นอยู่กับพระองค์

²⁴then from before him was sent the part of the hand, and this writing hath been written.

²⁴จึงมีมือซึ่งรับใช้มาจากพระพักตร์ได้จารึกข้อเขียนนี้ลงไว้

²⁵And this is the writing that is written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

²⁵ต่อไปนี้เป็นข้อเขียนที่จารึกไว้ คือ เมเน เมเน เทเคล และ ฟารสิน

²⁶This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE, God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it;

²⁶ต่อไปนี้เป็นคำไขเรื่องราวนั้น เมเน พระเจ้าได้ทรงคำนวณวาระแห่งราชอาณาจักรของพระองค์ไว้แล้ว และทรงนำราชอาณาจักรนั้นมาถึงสิ้นสุด

²⁷TEKEL, Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting;

²⁷เทเคล พระองค์ได้ถูกชั่งในตราชู ทรงเห็นว่ายังขาดอยู่

²⁸PERES, Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

²⁸เปเรส ราชอาณาจักรของพระองค์ถูกแบ่งออกให้แก่คนมีเดีย และคนเปอร์เซีย"

²⁹Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and [put] a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

²⁹แล้วเบลชัสซาร์ก็ทรงบัญชาและเขาได้ให้ดาเนียลสรวมเสื้อสีม่วง และให้สรวมสร้อยคอทองคำ และทรงให้ประกาศเกี่ยวกับเรื่องของท่านว่า ท่านได้เป็นอุปราชตรีในราชอาณาจักร

³⁰In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

³⁰ในคืนวันนั้นเอง เบลชัสซาร์กษัตริย์คนเคลเดียก็ทรงถูกประหาร

³¹And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, [being] about sixty-two years old.

³¹และดาริอัสคนมีเดียก็ทรงรับราชอาณาจักร มีพระชนมายุหกสิบสองพรรษา
