¹I say [the] truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in [the] Holy Spirit,

¹ข้าพเจ้าพูดตามความจริงในพระคริสต์ ข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้มุสา ใจสำนึกผิดชอบของข้าพเจ้าเป็นพยานฝ่ายข้าพเจ้าโดยพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ด้วย

²that I have great grief and uninterrupted pain in my heart,

²ว่า ข้าพเจ้ามีความทุกข์หนักและเสียใจเสมอมิได้ขาด

³for I have wished, I myself, to be a curse from the Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen, according to flesh;

³เพราะว่าข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาจะให้ข้าพเจ้าเองถูกสาปให้ตัดขาดจากพระคริสต์ เพราะเห็นแก่พี่น้องของข้าพเจ้า คือญาติของข้าพเจ้าตามเนื้อหนัง

⁴who are Israelites; whose [is] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the law-giving, and the service, and the promises;

⁴พวกเขาเป็นคนอิสราเอล ได้รับการทรงให้เป็นบุตรของพระเจ้าและสง่าราศี และบรรดาพันธสัญญา และการทรงประทานพระราชบัญญัติ และการปรนนิบัติพระเจ้าและพระสัญญาทั้งหลาย

⁵whose [are] the fathers; and of whom, as according to flesh, [is] the Christ, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

⁵ทั้งบรรพบุรุษก็เป็นของเขาด้วย และพระคริสต์ก็ได้ทรงถือกำเนิดตามเนื้อหนังในเชื้อชาติของเขา พระองค์ผู้ทรงอยู่เหนือสารพัด ผู้ซึ่งพระเจ้าจะทรงโปรดอวยพระพรเป็นนิตย์ เอเมน

⁶Not however as though the word of God had failed; for not all [are] Israel which [are] of Israel;

⁶แต่มิใช่ว่าพระวจนะของพระเจ้าได้ไร้ประโยชน์ไป เพราะว่าเขาทั้งหลายที่เกิดมาจากอิสราเอลนั้นหาได้เป็นคนอิสราเอลแท้ทุกคนไม่

⁷nor because they are seed of Abraham [are] all children: but, In Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.

⁷และมิใช่ว่าทุกคนที่เป็นเชื้อสายของอับราฮัมเป็นบุตรแท้ของท่าน แต่ว่า `เขาจะเรียกเชื้อสายของเจ้าทางสายอิสอัค'

⁸That is, [they that are] the children of the flesh, these [are] not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned as seed.

⁸คือว่าเขาเหล่านั้นที่เป็นบุตรตามเนื้อหนังจะนับเป็นบุตรของพระเจ้าไม่ได้ แต่บุตรแห่งพระสัญญานั้นจึงจะนับเป็นเชื้อสายได้

⁹For this word [is] of promise, According to this time I will come, and there shall be a son to Sarah.

⁹เพราะพระวจนะแห่งพระสัญญามีว่าดังนี้ `คราวนี้เราจะมาและนางซาราห์จะมีบุตรชาย'

¹⁰And not only [that], but Rebecca having conceived by one, Isaac our father,

¹⁰และมิใช่เท่านั้น แต่ว่านางเรเบคาห์ก็ได้มีครรภ์กับชายคนหนึ่งด้วย คืออิสอัคบรรพบุรุษของเรา

¹¹[the children] indeed being not yet born, or having done anything good or worthless (that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works, but of him that calls),

¹¹(แม้ก่อนบุตรนั้นบังเกิดมา และยังไม่ได้กระทำดีหรือชั่ว เพื่อพระดำริของพระเจ้าในการทรงเลือกนั้นจะตั้งมั่นคงอยู่ ไม่ใช่ตามการประพฤติ แต่ตามซึ่งพระองค์ทรงเรียก)

¹²it was said to her, The greater shall serve the less:

¹²พระองค์จึงตรัสแก่นางนั้นว่า `พี่จะปรนนิบัติน้อง'

¹³according as it is written, I have loved Jacob, and I have hated Esau.

¹³ตามที่มีคำเขียนไว้แล้วว่า `เราก็ยังรักยาโคบ แต่เราได้เกลียดเอซาว'

¹⁴What shall we say then? [Is there] unrighteousness with God? Far be the thought.

¹⁴ถ้าเช่นนั้นเราจะว่าอย่างไร พระเจ้าไม่ทรงยุติธรรมหรือ ขอพระเจ้าอย่ายอมให้เป็นเช่นนั้นเลย

¹⁵For he says to Moses, I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy, and I will feel compassion for whom I will feel compassion.

¹⁵เพราะพระองค์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า `เราประสงค์จะกรุณาผู้ใด เราก็จะกรุณาผู้นั้น และเราประสงค์จะเมตตาผู้ใด เราก็จะเมตตาผู้นั้น'

¹⁶So then [it is] not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shews mercy.

¹⁶เพราะฉะนั้นจึงไม่ขึ้นแก่ความตั้งใจหรือการตะเกียกตะกายของเขา แต่ขึ้นอยู่กับพระเจ้าผู้ทรงสำแดงพระกรุณา

¹⁷For the scripture says to Pharaoh, For this very thing I have raised thee up from amongst [men], that I might thus shew in thee my power, and so that my name should be declared in all the earth.

¹⁷เพราะมีข้อพระคัมภีร์ที่กล่าวแก่ฟาโรห์ว่า `เพราะเหตุนี้เองเราให้เจ้ามีตำแหน่งสูง ก็เพื่อจะแสดงฤทธานุภาพของเราโดยเจ้าและเพื่อให้นามของเราถูกประกาศออกไปทั่วโลก'

¹⁸So then, to whom he will he shews mercy, and whom he will he hardens.

¹⁸เหตุฉะนั้นพระองค์จะทรงพระกรุณาแก่ผู้ใด ก็จะทรงพระกรุณาผู้นั้น และพระองค์จะทรงให้ผู้ใดมีใจแข็งกระด้าง ก็จะทรงให้ผู้นั้นมีใจแข็งกระด้าง

¹⁹Thou wilt say to me then, Why does he yet find fault? for who resists his purpose?

¹⁹แล้วท่านก็จะกล่าวแก่ข้าพเจ้าว่า "ถ้าเช่นนั้น ทำไมพระองค์จึงยังทรงติเตียน เพราะว่าผู้ใดจะขัดขืนพระทัยของพระองค์ได้"

²⁰Aye, but thou, O man, who art *thou* that answerest again to God? Shall the thing formed say to him that has formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

²⁰โอ มนุษย์เอ๋ย ดูก่อน ท่านคือผู้ใดเล่าซึ่งท่านจะโต้ตอบกับพระเจ้าได้ สิ่งซึ่งถูกทำขึ้นแล้วนั้นจะกลับว่าแก่ผู้ทำได้หรือว่า "ท่านได้กระทำข้าพเจ้าอย่างนี้ทำไม"

²¹Or has not the potter authority over the clay, out of the same lump to make one vessel to honour, and another to dishonour?

²¹ส่วนช่างปั้นหม้อ ไม่มีสิทธิ์ที่จะเอาดินก้อนเดียวกันมาปั้นเป็นภาชนะอันมีเกียรติอันหนึ่ง และภาชนะอันไม่มีเกียรติอันหนึ่งหรือ

²²And if God, minded to shew his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much long-suffering vessels of wrath fitted for destruction;

²²แล้วถ้าโดยทรงประสงค์จะสำแดงการลงพระอาชญา และทรงให้ฤทธิ์เดชของพระองค์ปรากฏ พระเจ้าได้ทรงอดกลั้นพระทัยไว้ช้านานต่อผู้เหล่านั้น ที่เป็นภาชนะอันสมควรแก่พระอาชญา ซึ่งเตรียมไว้สำหรับความพินาศ

²³and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he had before prepared for glory,

²³เพื่อจะได้ทรงสำแดงสง่าราศีอันอุดมของพระองค์แก่บรรดาผู้ที่เป็นภาชนะแห่งพระเมตตา ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงจัดเตรียมไว้ก่อนให้สมกับสง่าราศี

²⁴us, whom he has also called, not only from amongst [the] Jews, but also from amongst [the] nations?

²⁴คือเราทั้งหลายที่พระองค์ได้ทรงเรียกมาแล้ว มิใช่จากยิวพวกเดียว แต่จากพวกต่างชาติด้วย

²⁵As he says also in Hosea, I will call not-my-people My people; and the-not-beloved Beloved.

²⁵ดังที่พระองค์ตรัสไว้ในพระคัมภีร์โฮเซยาว่า `เราจะเรียกเขาเหล่านั้นว่าเป็นชนชาติของเรา ซึ่งเมื่อก่อนเขาหาได้เป็นชนชาติของเราไม่ และจะเรียกเขาว่าเป็นที่รัก ซึ่งเมื่อก่อนเขาหาได้เป็นที่รักไม่

²⁶And it shall be, in the place where it was said to them, *Ye* [are] not my people, there shall they be called Sons of [the] living God.

²⁶และต่อมาในสถานที่ซึ่งทรงกล่าวแก่เขาว่า "เจ้าทั้งหลายไม่ใช่ชนชาติของเรา" ในที่นั้นเองเขาจะได้ชื่อว่า เป็นบุตรของพระเจ้าผู้ทรงพระชนม์อยู่'

²⁷But Esaias cries concerning Israel, Should the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved:

²⁷และท่านอิสยาห์ได้ร้องประกาศเรื่องพวกอิสราเอลด้วยว่า `แม้พวกลูกอิสราเอลจะมากเหมือนเม็ดทรายที่ทะเล แต่คนที่เหลืออยู่เท่านั้นจะรอด

²⁸for [he] is bringing the matter to an end, and [cutting [it] short in righteousness; because] a cutting short of the matter will [the] Lord accomplish upon the earth.

²⁸ด้วยว่าพระองค์จะทรงให้การนั้นสำเร็จ และจะให้สำเร็จโดยเร็วพลันในความชอบธรรม เพราะว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจะทรงให้การนั้นสำเร็จโดยเร็วพลันบนพิภพนี้'

²⁹And according as Esaias said before, Unless [the] Lord of hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and made like even as Gomorrha.

²⁹และตามที่ท่านอิสยาห์ได้กล่าวไว้ก่อนว่า `ถ้าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าแห่งจอมโยธามิได้ทรงเหลือเชื้อสายไว้ให้เราบ้าง เราก็จะได้เป็นเหมือนเมืองโสโดม และจะเป็นเหมือนเมืองโกโมราห์'

³⁰What then shall we say? That [they of the] nations, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained righteousness, but [the] righteousness that is on the principle of faith.

³⁰ถ้าเช่นนั้นเราจะว่าอย่างไร จะว่าพวกต่างชาติที่ไม่ได้ใฝ่หาความชอบธรรม ก็ยังได้รับความชอบธรรมคือความชอบธรรมที่เกิดขึ้นโดยความเชื่อ

³¹But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to [that] law.

³¹แต่พวกอิสราเอลซึ่งใฝ่หาพระราชบัญญัติแห่งความชอบธรรม ก็ยังไม่ได้บรรลุตามพระราชบัญญัติแห่งความชอบธรรมนั้น

³²Wherefore? Because [it was] not on the principle of faith, but as of works. They have stumbled at the stumblingstone,

³²เพราะอะไร เพราะเหตุที่เขามิได้แสวงหาโดยความเชื่อแต่แสวงหาโดยการประพฤติตามพระราชบัญญัติ เขาจึงสะดุดก้อนหินที่ให้สะดุดนั้น

³³according as it is written, Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offence: and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.

³³ดังที่มีคำเขียนไว้แล้วว่า `จงดูเถิด เราได้วางศิลาก้อนหนึ่งไว้ในศิโยนซึ่งจะทำให้สะดุด และหินก้อนหนึ่งซึ่งจะทำให้ล้ม แต่ผู้ใดที่เชื่อในพระองค์นั้นก็จะไม่ได้รับความอับอาย'
