⁵But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

⁶Maar dat hij ze begere in geloof, niet twijfelende; want die twijfelt, is een baar der zee gelijk, die van den wind gedreven en op en nedergeworpen wordt.

⁶But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

⁸Een dubbelhartig man is ongestadig in al zijn wegen.

⁹Maar de broeder, die nederig is, roeme in zijn hoogheid.

⁹But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

¹⁷Alle goede gave, en alle volmaakte gifte is van boven, van den Vader der lichten afkomende, bij Welken geen verandering is, of schaduw van omkering.

¹⁷Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

¹⁸Naar Zijn wil heeft Hij ons gebaard door het Woord der waarheid, opdat wij zouden zijn als eerstelingen Zijner schepselen.

²¹Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls or, preserve your life. .

²²En zijt daders des Woords, en niet alleen hoorders, uzelven met valse overlegging bedriegende.

²²But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

²³Want zo iemand een hoorder is des Woords, en niet een dader, die is een man gelijk, welke zijn aangeboren aangezicht bemerkt in een spiegel;

²³For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

²⁵Maar die inziet in de volmaakte wet, die der vrijheid is, en daarbij blijft, deze, geen vergetelijk hoorder geworden zijnde, maar een dader des werks, deze, zeg ik, zal gelukzalig zijn in dit zijn doen.

²⁵But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

²⁶Indien iemand onder u dunkt, dat hij godsdienstig is, en hij zijn tong niet in toom houdt, maar zijn hart verleidt, dezes godsdienst is ijdel.

²⁶If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

²⁷De zuivere en onbevlekte godsdienst voor God en den Vader is deze: wezen en weduwen bezoeken in hun verdrukking, en zichzelven onbesmet bewaren van de wereld.

²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
