¹Infanetoj miaj, cxi tion mi skribas al vi, por ke vi ne peku. Kaj se iu pekas, ni havas Advokaton cxe la Patro, Jesuon Kriston, la justan;

¹My children, these things I write to you in order that ye may not sin; and if any one sin, we have a patron with the Father, Jesus Christ [the] righteous;

²kaj li estas repacigo pro niaj pekoj, kaj ne sole pro niaj, sed ankaux pro la tuta mondo.

²and *he* is the propitiation for our sins; but not for ours alone, but also for the whole world.

³Kaj per cxi tio ni scias, ke ni konas lin:se ni observas liajn ordonojn.

³And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

⁴Kiu diras:Mi lin konas, kaj ne observas liajn ordonojn, tiu estas mensoganto, kaj la vero ne estas en li;

⁴He that says, I know him, and does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

⁵sed en cxiu ajn, kiu observas lian vorton, vere perfektigxis la amo al Dio. Per cxi tio ni scias, ke ni estas en li:

⁵but whoever keeps his word, in him verily the love of God is perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him.

⁶kiu diras, ke li restas en li, tiu mem devus tiel iradi, kiel li iradis.

⁶He that says he abides in him ought, even as *he* walked, himself also [so] to walk.

⁷Amataj, al vi mi skribas ne ordonon novan, sed malnovan ordonon, kiun vi havis de la komenco; la malnova ordono estas la vorto, kiun vi auxdis.

⁷Beloved, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment, which ye have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye heard.

⁸Ankaux mi skribas al vi novan ordonon, kiu estas vera en li kaj en vi; cxar la mallumo forpasas, kaj la vera lumo jam brilas.

⁸Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light already shines.

⁹Kiu diras, ke li estas en la lumo, kaj malamas sian fraton, tiu estas en la mallumo ankoraux gxis nun.

⁹He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in the darkness until now.

¹⁰Kiu amas sian fraton, tiu restas en la lumo, kaj en li ne estas faligajxo.

¹⁰He that loves his brother abides in light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.

¹¹Sed kiu malamas sian fraton, tiu estas en la mallumo, kaj iras en la mallumo, kaj ne scias, kien li iras, cxar la mallumo blindigis al li la okulojn.

¹¹But he that hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and knows not where he goes, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹²I write to you, children, because [your] sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

¹³I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked [one]. I write to you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

¹⁴Mi skribis al vi, patroj, cxar vi konas tiun, kiu estas de la komenco. Mi skribis al vi, junuloj, cxar vi estas fortaj, kaj la vorto de Dio restas en vi, kaj vi venkis la malbonulon.

¹⁴I have written to you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and ye have overcome the wicked [one].

¹⁵Ne amu la mondon, nek la mondajxojn. Se iu amas la mondon, la amo al la Patro ne estas en li.

¹⁵Love not the world, nor the things in the world. If any one love the world, the love of the Father is not in him;

¹⁶CXar cxio, kio estas en la mondo, la dezirego de la karno kaj la dezirego de la okuloj kaj la fiereco de vivo, estas ne de la Patro, sed de la mondo.

¹⁶because all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

¹⁷Kaj forpasas la mondo kaj gxia dezirego; sed la plenumanto de la volo de Dio restas por eterne.

¹⁷And the world is passing, and its lust, but he that does the will of God abides for eternity.

¹⁸Infanoj, jam estas la lasta horo; kaj kiel vi auxdis, ke antikristo venas, jam levigxis multe da antikristoj; per tio ni scias, ke estas la lasta horo.

¹⁸Little children, it is [the] last hour, and, according as ye have heard that antichrist comes, even now there have come many antichrists, whence we know that it is [the] last hour.

¹⁹De ni ili eliris, sed ili ne estis el ni; cxar se ili el ni estus, ili restus cxe ni; sed ili eliris, por ke ili elmontrigxu, ke ili cxiuj ne estas el ni.

¹⁹They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have surely remained with us, but that they might be made manifest that none are of us.

²⁰Kaj vi havas sanktoleadon de la Sanktulo, kaj vi scias cxion.

²⁰And *ye* have [the] unction from the holy [one], and ye know all things.

²¹Mi skribis al vi ne pro tio, ke vi ne scias la veron, sed pro tio, ke vi gxin scias, kaj pro tio, ke nenia mensogo estas el la vero.

²¹I have not written to you because ye do not know the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

²²Kiu estas la mensogisto, krom tiu, kiu malkonfesas, ke Jesuo estas la Kristo? Tiu estas la antikristo, kiu malkonfesas la Patron kaj la Filon.

²²Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? *He* is the antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.

²³CXiu, kiu malkonfesas la Filon, ne havas la Patron; tiu, kiu konfesas la Filon, havas ankaux la Patron.

²³Whoever denies the Son has not the Father either; he who confesses the Son has the Father also.

²⁴Vi do lasu resti en vi tion, kion vi auxdis de la komenco. Se tio, kion vi auxdis de la komenco, restos en vi, vi ankaux restos en la Filo kaj en la Patro.

²⁴As for *you* let that which ye have heard from the beginning abide in you: if what ye have heard from the beginning abides in you, *ye* also shall abide in the Son and in the Father.

²⁵Kaj jen estas la promeso, kiun li promesis al ni:la vivo eterna.

²⁵And this is the promise which *he* has promised us, life eternal.

²⁶CXi tion mi skribis al vi pri tiuj, kiuj vin forlogas de la vojo.

²⁶These things have I written to you concerning those who lead you astray:

²⁷Pri vi, la sanktoleado, kiun vi ricevis de li, restas en vi, kaj vi ne havas bezonon, ke iu vin instruu; sed kiel lia sanktoleado vin instruas pri cxio kaj estas vera kaj ne estas mensogo, kaj kiel gxi vin instruis, vi restas en li.

²⁷and *yourselves*, the unction which ye have received from him abides in you, and ye have not need that any one should teach you; but as the same unction teaches you as to all things, and is true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, ye shall abide in him.

²⁸Kaj nun, infanetoj, restu en li; por ke, se li elmontrigxos, ni havu kuragxon, kaj ne hontu antaux li cxe lia alveno.

²⁸And now, children, abide in him, that if he be manifested we may have boldness, and not be put to shame from before him at his coming.

²⁹Se vi scias, ke li estas justa, vi scias, ke ankaux cxiu, kiu faras justecon, el li naskigxis.

²⁹If ye know that he is righteous, know that every one who practises righteousness is begotten of him.
