¹Laying aside therefore all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envyings and all evil speakings,

²kiel jxusnaskitaj sucxinfanoj, sopiru al la spirita lakto pura, por ke vi per tio kresku en savon,

²as newborn babes desire earnestly the pure mental milk of the word, that by it ye may grow up to salvation,

³se vi gustumis, ke la Sinjoro estas bona;

³if indeed ye have tasted that the Lord [is] good.

⁴al kiu alvenante, kvazaux al sxtono vivanta, de homoj rifuzita, sed cxe Dio elektita, honorinda,

⁴To whom coming, a living stone, cast away indeed as worthless by men, but with God chosen, precious,

⁵vi ankaux, kiel sxtonoj vivantaj, konstruigxas domo spirita, sankta pastraro, por oferi spiritajn oferojn, akcepteblajn de Dio per Jesuo Kristo.

⁵yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

⁶CXar estas enhavate en skribo: Jen Mi kusxigas en Cion bazangulan sxtonon, elektitan, valoregan; Kaj kiu lin fidas, tiu ne estos hontigita.

⁶Because it is contained in the scripture: Behold, I lay in Zion a corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be put to shame.

⁷Por vi do, la fidantoj, estas la valoregeco; sed por nefidantoj: SXtono, kiun malsxatis la konstruantoj, Farigxis sxtono bazangula;

⁷To you therefore who believe [is] the preciousness; but to the disobedient, the stone which the builders cast away as worthless, this is become head of [the] corner,

⁸kaj: SXtono de falpusxigxo kaj roko de alfrapigxo; ili falpusxigxas pro la vorto, malobeante, por kio ankaux ili estas difinitaj.

⁸and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; [who] stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.

⁹Sed vi estas raso elektita, pastraro regxa, nacio sankta, popolo Diposedata, por ke vi proklamu la gloron de Tiu, kiu vokis vin el mallumo en Sian lumon mirindan;

⁹But *ye* [are] a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;

¹⁰kiuj iam estis ne-popolo, sed nun estas popolo de Dio; antauxe nekompatitoj, sed nun kompatitoj.

¹⁰who once [were] not a people, but now God's people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.

¹¹Amataj, mi petegas vin kiel fremdulojn kaj migrantojn, detenu vin de karnaj voluptoj, kiuj militadas kontraux la animo;

¹¹Beloved, I exhort [you], as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

¹²kondutante dece cxe la nacianoj, por ke, kvankam ili kalumnias vin kiel malbonagulojn, tamen, vidante viajn bonfarojn, ili gloru Dion en la tago de vizitado.

¹²having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that [as to that] in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through [your] good works, [themselves] witnessing [them], glorify God in [the] day of visitation.

¹³Submetu vin al cxiu homa institucio pro la Sinjoro; cxu al la regxo, la superreganto;

¹³Be in subjection [therefore] to every human institution for the Lord's sake; whether to [the] king as supreme,

¹⁴cxu al regantoj, kiel liaj senditoj por vengxo al malbonaguloj kaj por lauxdo al bonaguloj.

¹⁴or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.

¹⁵CXar la volo de Dio estas, ke bonfarante, vi silentigu la nesciadon de homoj malsagxaj;

¹⁵Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;

¹⁶kiel liberaj, kaj ne farantaj el via libereco kovrilon de malico, sed kiel servistoj de Dio.

¹⁶as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God's bondmen.

¹⁷CXiujn honoru. La frataron amu. Dion timu. La regxon honoru.

¹⁷Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.

¹⁸Servantoj, submetu vin al viaj sinjoroj kun cxia timo; ne sole al la bonaj kaj malseveraj, sed ankaux al la malbonhumoraj.

¹⁸Servants, [be] subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.

¹⁹CXar tio estas lauxdinda, se pro konscienco al Dio oni elportas malgxojon, suferante maljuste.

¹⁹For this [is] acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.

²⁰CXar kia honoro estas, se, pekante kaj sekve batate, vi tion pacience elportas? sed se, bonfarante kaj sekve suferante, vi tion pacience elportas, tio estas lauxdinda antaux Dio.

²⁰For what glory [is it], if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear [it]? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear [it], this is acceptable with God.

²¹CXar al cxi tio vi estas vokitaj; pro tio, ke Kristo ankaux suferis pro vi, postlasante por vi ekzemplon, por ke vi sekvu liajn postesignojn;

²¹For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:

²²pekon li ne faris, kaj trompo ne trovigxis en lia busxo;

²²who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;

²³insultate, li ne insultis responde; suferante, li ne minacis, sed submetis sin al la juste jugxanta;

²³who, [when] reviled, reviled not again; [when] suffering, threatened not; but gave [himself] over into the hands of him who judges righteously;

²⁴li mem portis niajn pekojn en sia korpo sur la lignajxo, por ke ni, malvivigite koncerne pekojn, vivu por justeco; per lia vundo vi resanigxis.

²⁴who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.

²⁵CXar vi estis kiel sxafoj erarvagantaj; sed nun vi returne venis al la Pasxtisto kaj Episkopo de viaj animoj.

²⁵For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
