¹La kesto de la Eternulo estis en la lando de la Filisxtoj dum sep monatoj.

¹And the ark of Jehovah was in the country of the Philistines seven months.

²Kaj la Filisxtoj vokis la pastrojn kaj la auxguristojn, kaj diris:Kion ni faru kun la kesto de la Eternulo? sciigu al ni, kiamaniere ni resendu gxin sur gxian lokon.

²And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do with the ark of Jehovah? tell us wherewith we shall send it to its place.

³Kaj tiuj diris:Se vi volas resendi la keston de la Dio de Izrael, ne resendu gxin sen donacoj, sed repagu al Li prokulpan oferon; tiam vi resanigxos, kaj ekscios, kial ne forigxas de vi Lia mano.

³And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; ye must at any rate return him a trespass-offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.

⁴Kaj ili diris:Kian prokulpan oferon ni repagu al Li? Kaj tiuj diris:Laux la nombro de la estroj de la Filisxtoj kvin orajn tuberojn kaj kvin orajn musojn; cxar la sama frapo trafis vin cxiujn kaj viajn estrojn.

⁴Then they said, What is the trespass-offering which we shall return to him? And they said, Five golden hemorrhoids, and five golden mice, the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague is upon them all, and upon your lords.

⁵Faru bildojn de viaj tuberoj kaj bildojn de viaj musoj, kiuj ruinigis la landon, kaj faru honoron al la Dio de Izrael; tiam Li eble malplipezigos Sian manon sur vi kaj sur viaj dioj kaj sur via lando.

⁵And ye shall make images of your hemorrhoids, and images of your mice that destroy the land, and give glory to the God of Israel: perhaps he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

⁶Kial vi obstinigus vian koron, kiel obstinigis sian koron Faraono kaj la Egiptoj? kiam Li montris sur ili Sian forton, ili ja forliberigis ilin, ke ili iru.

⁶And why will ye harden your heart, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their heart? When he had wrought mightily among them, did they not let them go, and they departed?

⁷Nun faru novan cxaron, kaj prenu du sucxigantajn bovinojn, kiuj ankoraux ne havis sur si jugon, kaj jungu la bovinojn al la cxaro, kaj iliajn idojn forkonduku de ili hejmen.

⁷And now make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there has come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;

⁸Kaj prenu la keston de la Eternulo, kaj metu gxin sur la cxaron; kaj la orajn objektojn, kiujn vi donos al Li kiel prokulpan oferon, metu en kesteton apud gxin, kaj forsendu gxin, ke gxi iru.

⁸and take the ark of Jehovah, and lay it upon the cart, and the golden jewels, which ye return him as a trespass-offering, put in the coffer by the side thereof; and send it away that it may go.

⁹Kaj rigardu:se gxi iros laux la vojo al sia regiono, al Bet-SXemesx, tiam Li faris al ni tiun grandan malbonon; se ne, tiam ni scios, ke ne Lia mano frapis nin, sed ke tio trafis nin blindokaze.

⁹And see, if it go up by the way of its own border to Beth-shemesh, it is he who has done us this great evil; if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that touched us; it was a chance [that] happened to us.

¹⁰Kaj la homoj faris tiel, kaj ili prenis du sucxigantajn bovinojn kaj aljungis ilin al cxaro, kaj iliajn idojn ili ensxlosis hejme;

¹⁰And the men did so, and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home.

¹¹kaj ili metis la keston de la Eternulo sur la cxaron, kaj ankaux la kesteton kun la oraj musoj kaj kun la bildoj de siaj tuberoj.

¹¹And they laid the ark of Jehovah upon the cart, and the coffer with the golden mice and the images of their sores.

¹²Kaj la bovinoj direktis sian iradon al la vojo, kiu kondukas al Bet- SXemesx; ili iris nur sur unu vojeto, iris kaj blekis, sed ne forflankigxis dekstren nek maldekstren; kaj la estroj de la Filisxtoj iris post ili gxis la limo de Bet-SXemesx.

¹²And the kine went straight forward on the way to Beth-shemesh; they went by the one high way, lowing as they went; and they turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh.

¹³Kaj la logxantoj de Bet-SXemesx estis rikoltantaj tritikon en la valo; kiam ili levis la okulojn kaj ekvidis la keston, ili ekgxojis pro tio, kion ili vidis.

¹³And [they of] Beth-shemesh were reaping the wheat-harvest in the valley; and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.

¹⁴La cxaro venis sur la kampon de Josuo, Bet-SXemesxano, kaj haltis tie; tie estis granda sxtono. Kaj oni dishakis la lignon de la cxaro, kaj la bovinojn oni oferis brulofere al la Eternulo.

¹⁴And the cart came into the field of Joshua the Beth-shemeshite, and stood there; and a great stone was there. And they clave the wood of the cart, and offered up the kine as a burnt-offering to Jehovah.

¹⁵La Levidoj malsuprenprenis la keston de la Eternulo, kaj la kesteton, kiu estis apud gxi kaj enhavis la orajn objektojn, kaj ili metis tion sur la grandan sxtonon; kaj la logxantoj de Bet-SXemesx faris bruloferojn kaj bucxis bucxoferojn al la Eternulo en tiu tago.

¹⁵And the Levites took down the ark of Jehovah, and the coffer that was with it, in which were the golden jewels, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Beth-shemesh offered up burnt-offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day to Jehovah.

¹⁶Kaj la kvin estroj de la Filisxtoj vidis, kaj reiris en Ekronon en la sama tago.

¹⁶And the five lords of the Philistines saw [it], and returned to Ekron the same day.

¹⁷Kaj jen estas la oraj tuberoj, kiujn la Filisxtoj donis kiel prokulpan oferon al la Eternulo:unu pro Asxdod, unu pro Gaza, unu pro Asxkelon, unu pro Gat, unu pro Ekron.

¹⁷And these are the golden sores which the Philistines returned as a trespass-offering to Jehovah: for Ashdod one, for Gazah one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

¹⁸La oraj musoj, laux la nombro de cxiuj urboj Filisxtaj en la kvin provincoj, kiel de la urboj fortikigitaj, tiel ankaux de la nesxirmitaj vilagxoj, kaj ankaux la granda sxtono, sur kiun oni metis la keston de la Eternulo, estas kasxitaj gxis nun sur la kampo de Josuo, la Bet-SXemesxano.

¹⁸and the golden mice, [according to] the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both fortified cities and villages of the peasantry; [and they brought them] as far as the great [stone of] Abel, whereon they set down the ark of Jehovah, [which] is to this day in the field of Joshua the Beth-shemeshite.

¹⁹Kaj Li frapis la logxantojn de Bet-SXemesx pro tio, ke ili enrigardis en la keston de la Eternulo; Li mortigis el la popolo kvindek mil sepdek homojn; kaj ekfunebris la popolo pro tio, ke la Eternulo frapis la popolon per granda frapo.

¹⁹And he smote among the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of Jehovah, and smote of the people seventy men; and the people lamented, because Jehovah had smitten the people with a great slaughter.

²⁰Kaj la logxantoj de Bet-SXemesx diris:Kiu povas stari antaux la Eternulo, tiu sankta Dio? kaj al kiu Li iros de ni?

²⁰And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before Jehovah, this holy God? and to whom shall he go up from us?

²¹Kaj ili sendis senditojn al la logxantoj de Kirjat-Jearim, por diri:La Filisxtoj redonis la keston de la Eternulo; venu, prenu gxin al vi.

²¹And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of Jehovah; come down, fetch it up to you.
