¹These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel on this side the Jordan, in the wilderness, in the plain, opposite to Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

²There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.

³And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that Jehovah had given him in command to them;

⁴Post kiam li venkobatis Sihxonon, la regxon de la Amoridoj, kiu logxis en HXesxbon, kaj Ogon, la regxon de Basxan, kiu logxis en Asxtarot kaj en Edrei;

⁴after he had smitten Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who dwelt at Ashtaroth [and] at Edrei.

⁵On this side the Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to unfold this law, saying,

⁶La Eternulo, nia Dio, diris al ni sur HXoreb jene:Suficxe vi logxis sur cxi tiu monto;

⁶Jehovah our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have stayed long enough in this mountain.

⁷turnigxu kaj elmovigxu, kaj iru sur la monton de la Amoridoj kaj al cxiuj iliaj najbaroj en la stepo, sur la monto kaj en la valo kaj en la sudo kaj sur la bordo de la maro, en la landon de la Kanaanidoj kaj sur Lebanonon, gxis la granda rivero, la rivero Euxfrato.

⁷Turn and take your journey, and go to the hill-country of the Amorites, and unto all the neighbouring places in the plain, in the mountain, and in the lowland, and in the south, and by the seaside, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁸Vidu, Mi donas al vi la landon; iru kaj ekposedu la landon, pri kiu la Eternulo jxuris al viaj patroj, al Abraham, al Isaak, kaj al Jakob, ke Li donos gxin al ili kaj al ilia idaro post ili.

⁸Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

⁹Kaj mi diris al vi en tiu tempo jene:Mi ne povas sola porti vin;

⁹And I spoke unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone.

¹⁰la Eternulo, via Dio, multigis vin, kaj jen vi estas nun multego, kiel la steloj de la cxielo.

¹⁰Jehovah your God hath multiplied you, and behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

¹¹La Eternulo, la Dio de viaj patroj, multigu vin miloble kontraux via nuna nombro, kaj Li benu vin, kiel Li diris al vi!

¹¹Jehovah, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you as he hath said unto you!

¹²Kiel mi povus sola porti la penadon por vi kaj vian sxargxon kaj viajn disputojn?

¹²How can I myself alone sustain your wear, and your burden, and your strife?

¹³Elektu al vi el viaj triboj virojn sagxajn kaj kompetentajn kaj konatajn, kaj mi starigos ilin, kiel viajn estrojn.

¹³Provide you wise and understanding and known men, according to your tribes, that I may make them your chiefs.

¹⁴Kaj vi respondis al mi kaj diris:Bona estas la afero, kiun vi proponis fari.

¹⁴And ye answered me, and said, The thing that thou hast spoken is good [for us] to do.

¹⁵Tiam mi prenis la cxefojn de viaj triboj, virojn sagxajn kaj konatajn, kaj mi faris ilin estroj super vi, milestroj kaj centestroj kaj kvindekestroj kaj dekestroj kaj kontrolistoj en viaj triboj.

¹⁵So I took the chiefs of your tribes, wise men and known, and made them chiefs over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers for your tribes.

¹⁶Kaj mi ordonis al viaj jugxistoj en tiu tempo, dirante:Auxskultu viajn fratojn kaj jugxu juste inter homo kaj lia frato kaj fremdulo.

¹⁶And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, Hear [the causes] between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and him also that sojourneth with him.

¹⁷Ne distingu vizagxojn cxe la jugxo; malgrandan kaj grandan egale auxskultu; timu neniun, cxar la jugxo estas afero de Dio; kaj aferon, kiu estos malfacila por vi, venigu al mi, kaj mi gxin auxskultos.

¹⁷Ye shall not respect persons in judgment: ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God's; and the matter that is too hard for you shall ye bring to me, that I may hear it.

¹⁸Kaj mi donis al vi ordonon en tiu tempo pri cxio, kion vi devas fari.

¹⁸And I commanded you at that time all the things that ye should do.

¹⁹Kaj ni foriris de HXoreb, kaj trairis tiun tutan grandan kaj teruran dezerton, kiun vi vidis, sur la vojo al la monto de la Amoridoj, kiel ordonis al ni la Eternulo, nia Dio; kaj ni venis al Kadesx-Barnea.

¹⁹And we departed from Horeb and went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw, on the way to the mountain of the Amorites, as Jehovah our God had commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.

²⁰Kaj mi diris al vi:Vi venis al la monto de la Amoridoj, kiun la Eternulo, nia Dio, donas al ni;

²⁰And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which Jehovah our God giveth us.

²¹vidu, la Eternulo, via Dio, donas al vi la landon; iru, ekposedu gxin, kiel diris al vi la Eternulo, la Dio de viaj patroj; ne timu kaj ne tremu.

²¹Behold, Jehovah thy God hath set the land before thee: go up, take possession, as Jehovah the God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.

²²Sed vi cxiuj aliris al mi, kaj diris:Ni sendu antaux ni virojn, ke ili esploru por ni la landon, kaj alportu al ni sciigon pri la vojo, per kiu ni devas iri, kaj pri la urboj, al kiuj ni devas veni.

²²And ye came near to me all of you, and said, We will send men before us, who shall examine the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and of the cities to which we shall come.

²³Kaj tio placxis al mi, kaj mi prenis el vi dek du virojn, po unu viro el tribo;

²³And the matter was good in mine eyes; and I took twelve men of you, one man for a tribe.

²⁴kaj ili iris kaj supreniris sur la monton, kaj venis al la valo Esxkol kaj esplorrigardis gxin.

²⁴And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.

²⁵Kaj ili prenis en siajn manojn iom el la fruktoj de la lando kaj liveris al ni, kaj alportis al ni sciigon, kaj diris:Bona estas la lando, kiun la Eternulo, nia Dio, donas al ni.

²⁵And they took of the fruit of the land in their hand, and brought it down unto us, and brought us answer, and said, The land is good that Jehovah our God hath given us.

²⁶Sed vi ne volis iri, kaj vi malobeis la vortojn de la Eternulo, via Dio;

²⁶But ye would not go up, and rebelled against the word of Jehovah your God;

²⁷kaj vi murmuris en viaj tendoj, kaj diris:Pro la malamo de la Eternulo kontraux ni, Li elkondukis nin el la lando Egipta, por transdoni nin en la manon de la Amoridoj, por ke ili ekstermu nin;

²⁷and ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because Jehovah hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

²⁸kien ni iru? Niaj fratoj ektimigis nian koron, dirante:La popolo estas pli granda kaj pli altkreska ol ni, la urboj estas grandaj kaj fortikigitaj gxis la cxielo, kaj ankaux Anakidojn ni tie vidis.

²⁸Whither shall we go up? Our brethren have made our hearts melt, saying, [They are] a people greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.

²⁹Kaj mi diris al vi:Ne tremu kaj ne timu ilin;

²⁹And I said unto you, Be not afraid, neither fear them;

³⁰la Eternulo via Dio, kiu iras antaux vi, Li batalos por vi, simile al cxio, kion Li faris por vi en Egiptujo antaux viaj okuloj,

³⁰Jehovah your God who goeth before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

³¹kaj en la dezerto, kie, kiel vi vidis, la Eternulo, via Dio, portis vin, kiel homo portas sian filon, sur la tuta vojo, kiun vi iris, gxis vi venis al cxi tiu loko.

³¹and in the wilderness where thou hast seen that Jehovah thy God bore thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came to this place.

³²Sed ecx cxe tio vi ne fidas la Eternulon, vian Dion,

³²But In this thing ye did not believe Jehovah your God,

³³kiu iras antaux vi sur la vojo, por sercxi por vi lokon, kie vi povus halti tendare, nokte en fajro, por montri al vi la vojon, kiun vi devas iri, kaj tage en nubo.

³³who went in the way before you, to search you out a place for your encamping, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in the cloud by day.

³⁴Kaj la Eternulo auxdis viajn vortojn, kaj Li ekkoleris kaj jxuris, dirante:

³⁴And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and swore, saying,

³⁵Neniu el cxi tiuj homoj, el cxi tiu malbona generacio, vidos la bonan landon, kiun Mi jxuris doni al viaj patroj;

³⁵None among these men, this evil generation, shall in any wise see that good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers!

³⁶nur Kaleb, filo de Jefune, vidos gxin; kaj pro tio, ke li sekvis la Eternulon, Mi donos al li kaj al liaj filoj la landon, kiun li trairis.

³⁶Except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed Jehovah.

³⁷Ankaux kontraux mi la Eternulo ekkoleris pro vi, dirante:Vi ankaux ne venos tien;

³⁷Also Jehovah was angry with me on your account, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.

³⁸Josuo, filo de Nun, kiu staras antaux vi, li venos tien; lin fortigu, cxar li donos gxin al Izrael kiel posedajxon.

³⁸Joshua the son of Nun, who standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: strengthen him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³⁹Kaj viaj infanoj, pri kiuj vi diris, ke ili farigxos militakirajxo, kaj viaj filoj, kiuj nun ankoraux ne scias bonon nek malbonon, ili venos tien, kaj al ili Mi donos gxin, kaj ili ekposedos gxin.

³⁹And your little ones, of whom ye said, They shall be a prey, and your children, who this day know neither good nor evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

⁴⁰Sed vi turnigxu, kaj iru en la dezerton en la direkto al la Rugxa Maro.

⁴⁰But ye, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

⁴¹Kaj vi respondis kaj diris al mi:Ni pekis antaux la Eternulo; ni iros kaj batalos, konforme al cxio, kion ordonis al ni la Eternulo, nia Dio; kaj cxiu el vi zonis sin per siaj bataliloj, kaj vi pretigis vin, por iri sur la monton.

⁴¹-- And ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against Jehovah, we will go up and fight, according to all that Jehovah our God hath commanded us. And ye girded on every man his weapons of war, and ye would go presumptuously up the hill.

⁴²Sed la Eternulo diris al mi:Diru al ili:Ne iru kaj ne batalu, cxar Mi ne estas inter vi; por ke vi ne estu frapitaj de viaj malamikoj.

⁴²And Jehovah said to me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

⁴³Kaj mi diris al vi, sed vi ne auxskultis; kaj vi malobeis la vortojn de la Eternulo, kaj vi estis malhumilaj kaj iris sur la monton.

⁴³And I spoke unto you, but ye would not hear, and ye rebelled against the word of Jehovah, and acted presumptuously, and went up the hill.

⁴⁴Tiam eliris kontraux vin la Amoridoj, kiuj logxis sur tiu monto, kaj ili pelis vin tiel, kiel faras la abeloj, kaj batis vin sur Seir gxis HXorma.

⁴⁴And the Amorite that dwelt on that hill came out against you, and chased you, like as bees do, and cut you in pieces in Seir, as far as Hormah.

⁴⁵Kaj vi revenis kaj ploris antaux la Eternulo; sed la Eternulo ne auxskultis vian vocxon kaj ne atentis vin.

⁴⁵And ye returned and wept before Jehovah, but Jehovah would not listen to your voice, nor give ear unto you.

⁴⁶Kaj vi logxis en Kadesx longan tempon, la tempon, dum kiu vi logxis.

⁴⁶And ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode [there].
