¹Kaj la profetoj, HXagaj, la profeto, kaj Zehxarja, filo de Ido, profetis pri la Judoj, kiuj estis en Judujo kaj Jerusalem, en la nomo de Dio de Izrael.

¹Now the prophets, Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem; in the name of the God of Israel [did they prophesy] to them.

²Tiam levigxis Zerubabel, filo de SXealtiel, kaj Jesxua, filo de Jocadak, kaj komencis konstrui la domon de Dio en Jerusalem, kaj kun ili estis la profetoj de Dio, kiuj fortigadis ilin.

²Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and with them were the prophets of God, who helped them.

³En tiu tempo venis al ili Tatnaj, la estro de la transrivera regiono, kaj SXetar-Boznaj, kaj iliaj kunuloj, kaj tiele diris al ili:Kiu permesis al vi konstrui cxi tiun domon kaj starigi cxi tiujn murojn?

³At that time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar-boznai, and their companions, and said thus to them: Who gave you orders to build this house and to complete this wall?

⁴And they said to them after this manner: What are the names of the men that build this building?

⁵Sed la okulo de ilia Dio estis super la plejagxuloj de la Judoj, kaj ili ne estis malhelpataj, gxis la afero estis raportita al Dario kaj gxis revenis decido pri tio.

⁵But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, and they did not make them cease till the matter came to Darius; and then they returned answer by letter concerning it.

⁶Jen estas la enhavo de la letero, kiun sendis Tatnaj, la estro de la transrivera regiono, kaj SXetar-Boznaj, kun siaj kunuloj la Afarsehxanoj, kiuj estis en la transrivera regiono, al la regxo Dario;

⁶The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shethar-boznai, and his companions the Apharsachites, who were on this side the river, sent to Darius the king.

⁷la raporto, kiun ili sendis al li, havis la sekvantan tekston:Al la regxo Dario plenan pacon.

⁷They sent a report to him in which was written thus: To Darius the king, all peace!

⁸Estu sciate al la regxo, ke ni iris en la Judan landon, al la domo de la granda Dio; gxi estas konstruata el grandaj sxtonoj, kaj trabojn oni enmetas en la murojn, kaj la laboro estas farata vigle kaj sukcesas en iliaj manoj.

⁸Be it known to the king that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is being built with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work is being carried on with diligence, and prospers in their hand.

⁹Tiam ni demandis tiujn plenagxulojn, kaj diris al ili:Kiu donis al vi la permeson konstrui cxi tiun domon kaj starigi cxi tiujn murojn?

⁹Then asked we those elders: thus we said to them, Who gave you orders to build this house and to complete this wall?

¹⁰Kaj krom tio ni demandis pri iliaj nomoj, por raporti al vi, kaj skribi la nomojn de tiuj homoj, kiuj estas iliaj cxefoj.

¹⁰We asked their names also, to inform thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

¹¹Per la sekvantaj vortoj ili respondis al ni kaj diris:Ni estas servantoj de Dio de la cxielo kaj de la tero, kaj ni konstruas la domon, kiu estis konstruita antaux multe da jaroj, kaj granda regxo de Izrael konstruis gxin kaj finis gxin.

¹¹And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of the heavens and the earth, and build the house that was built these many years ago; and a great king of Israel built and completed it.

¹²Sed kiam niaj patroj kolerigis Dion de la cxielo, Li transdonis ilin en la manon de Nebukadnecar, regxo de Babel, la HXaldeo; kaj tiun domon li detruis, kaj la popolon li translogxigis en Babelon.

¹²But after that our fathers had provoked the God of the heavens to wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, and he destroyed this house, and carried the people away unto Babylon.

¹³Sed en la unua jaro de Ciro, regxo de Babel, la regxo Ciro donis permeson rekonstrui cxi tiun domon de Dio.

¹³But in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, king Cyrus gave orders to build this house of God.

¹⁴Ecx la vazojn de la domo de Dio, la orajn kaj argxentajn, kiujn Nebukadnecar elportis el la templo de Jerusalem kaj forportis en la templon de Babel, ilin la regxo Ciro elportis el la templo de Babel, kaj oni transdonis ilin al SXesxbacar, kiun li starigis kiel regionestron;

¹⁴And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was at Jerusalem and brought into the temple of Babylon, those did king Cyrus take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered to one Sheshbazzar by name, whom he had appointed governor.

¹⁵kaj li diris al li:Prenu cxi tiujn vazojn, iru, kaj forportu ilin en la templon de Jerusalem, kaj la domo de Dio estu konstruata sur sia loko.

¹⁵And he said to him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is at Jerusalem, and let the house of God be built in its place.

¹⁶Tiam venis tiu SXesxbacar kaj metis la fundamenton por la domo de Dio en Jerusalem; kaj de tiu tempo gxis nun gxi estas konstruata, kaj gxi ankoraux ne estas finita.

¹⁶Then came the same Sheshbazzar, [and] laid the foundation of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and since that time even until now has it been in building, and it is not completed.

¹⁷Tial, se placxas al la regxo, oni sercxu en la domo de la regxaj trezoroj tie en Babel, cxu efektive la regxo Ciro donis permeson konstrui cxi tiun domon de Dio en Jerusalem; kaj la volon de la regxo pri tio oni sendu al ni.

¹⁷And now, if it seem good to the king, let search be made in the king's treasure-house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that orders were given by king Cyrus to build this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
