¹En la dua jaro de la regxo Dario, en la sesa monato, en la unua tago de la monato, aperis vorto de la Eternulo per la profeto HXagaj al Zerubabel, filo de SXealtiel, regionestro de Judujo, kaj al la cxefpastro Josuo, filo de Jehocadak, dirante:

¹In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

²Tiele diras la Eternulo Cebaot:Tiu popolo diras, ke ankoraux ne venis la tempo, por konstrui la domon de la Eternulo.

²Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Jehovah's house should be built.

³Sed aperis vorto de la Eternulo per la profeto HXagaj, dirante:

³And the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

⁴CXu por vi mem estas nun la gxusta tempo, por sidi en viaj tabulitaj domoj, dum tiu domo estas ruinoj?

⁴Is it time for you that ye should dwell in your wainscoted houses, while this house lieth waste?

⁵Nun tiele diras la Eternulo Cebaot:Pripensu bone vian staton:

⁵And now thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

⁶vi semas multe, sed enportas malmulte; vi mangxas, sed ne gxissate; vi trinkas, sed ne gxisebrie; vi vestas vin, sed ne estas al vi varme; kiu laborenspezas monon, tiu laborenspezas por truhava saketo.

⁶Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but are not satisfied; ye drink, but are not filled with drink; ye clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes.

⁷Tiele diras la Eternulo Cebaot:Pripensu bone vian staton.

⁷Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

⁸Iru sur la monton, prenu lignon, kaj konstruu la domon; Mi akceptos gxin favore, kaj Mi montros Mian gloron, diras la Eternulo.

⁸Go up to the mountain and bring wood, and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah.

⁹Vi atendis multon, sed montrigxis, ke estas malmulte; kaj kion vi alportis hejmen, tion Mi disblovis. Pro kio tiel estas? diras la Eternulo Cebaot; pro tio, ke Mia domo estas dezerta, dum vi kuras cxiu al sia domo.

⁹Ye looked for much, and behold it was little; and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Wherefore? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, whilst ye run every man to his own house.

¹⁰Pro tio la cxielo ne donas al vi roson kaj la tero ne donas siajn produktajxojn.

¹⁰Therefore over you the heavens withhold their dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

¹¹Kaj Mi alvokis sekecon sur la teron, sur la montojn, sur la grenon, sur la moston, sur la oleon, kaj sur cxion, kion produktas la tero, ankaux sur la homon, sur la bruton, kaj sur cxiun laboron de la manoj.

¹¹And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

¹²Zerubabel, file de SXealtiel, kaj la cxefpastro Josuo, filo de Jehocadak, kaj la tuta cetera popolo auxskultis la vocxon de la Eternulo, ilia Dio, kaj la vortojn de la profeto HXagaj, kun kiuj lin sendis la Eternulo, ilia Dio; kaj la popolo ektimis la Eternulon.

¹²And Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, according as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people feared before Jehovah.

¹³Kaj HXagaj, la sendito de la Eternulo, diris al la popolo en la nomo de la Eternulo jene:Mi estas kun vi, diras la Eternulo.

¹³Then spoke Haggai, Jehovah's messenger, in Jehovah's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah.

¹⁴Kaj la Eternulo vigligis la spiriton de Zerubabel, filo de SXealtiel, regionestro de Judujo, kaj la spiriton de la cxefpastro Josuo, filo de Jehocadak, kaj la spiriton de la tuta cetera popolo; kaj ili venis kaj komencis labori en la domo de la Eternulo Cebaot, ilia Dio,

¹⁴And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked at the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,

¹⁵en la dudek-kvara tago de la sesa monato, en la dua jaro de la regxo Dario.

¹⁵in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
