¹Kaj antaux la Paska festo Jesuo, sciante, ke lia horo venis, por ke li transiru el cxi tiu mondo al la Patro, aminte siajn proprulojn, kiuj estis en la mondo, amis ilin gxis la fino.

¹Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come that he should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end.

²Kaj dum la vespermangxo, kiam la diablo jam metis en la koron de Judas Iskariota, filo de Simon, la intencon perfidi lin,

²And during supper, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas [son] of Simon, Iscariote, that he should deliver him up,

³Jesuo, sciante, ke la Patro donis cxion en liajn manojn, kaj ke li venis de Dio kaj iras al Dio,

³[Jesus,] knowing that the Father had given him all things into his hands, and that he came out from God and was going to God,

⁴levigxis de la vespermangxo kaj demetis siajn vestojn; kaj li prenis visxtukon, kaj sin zonis.

⁴rises from supper and lays aside his garments, and having taken a linen towel he girded himself:

⁵Poste li versxis akvon en la pelvon, kaj komencis lavi la piedojn de la discxiploj kaj visxi ilin per la tuko, per kiu li estis zonita.

⁵then he pours water into the washhand basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the linen towel with which he was girded.

⁶Tiam li venis al Simon Petro. CXi tiu diris al li:Sinjoro, cxu vi lavas al mi la piedojn?

⁶He comes therefore to Simon Peter; and *he* says to him, Lord, dost thou wash *my* feet?

⁷Jesuo respondis kaj diris al li:Kion mi faras, vi nun ne scias, sed poste vi komprenos.

⁷Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou dost not know now, but thou shalt know hereafter.

⁸Petro diris al li:Vi ja neniam lavos miajn piedojn. Respondis al li Jesuo:Se mi ne lavas vin, vi ne partoprenas kun mi.

⁸Peter says to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee, thou hast not part with me.

⁹Simon Petro diris al li:Sinjoro, ne nur miajn piedojn, sed ankaux la manojn kaj la kapon.

⁹Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

¹⁰Jesuo diris al li:Kiu sin jam banis, tiu bezonas nur, ke oni lavu la piedojn, kaj li estas tuta pura; kaj vi estas puraj, tamen ne cxiuj.

¹⁰Jesus says to him, He that is washed all over needs not to wash save his feet, but is wholly clean; and ye are clean, but not all.

¹¹CXar li konis tiun, kiu perfidos lin; tial li diris:Vi ne cxiuj estas puraj.

¹¹For he knew him that delivered him up: on account of this he said, Ye are not all clean.

¹²Kiam do li jam lavis iliajn piedojn kaj surmetis siajn vestojn kaj denove sidigxis, li diris al ili:CXu vi scias, kion mi faris al vi?

¹²When therefore he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, having sat down again, he said to them, Do ye know what I have done to you?

¹³Vi nomas min Majstro kaj Sinjoro; kaj prave vi diras, cxar tia mi estas.

¹³Ye call me the Teacher and the Lord, and ye say well, for I am [so].

¹⁴Se do mi, la Sinjoro kaj la Majstro, lavis viajn piedojn, vi ankaux devas inter vi lavi la piedojn.

¹⁴If I therefore, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet;

¹⁵CXar mi donis al vi ekzemplon, por ke vi ankaux faru tion, kion mi faris al vi.

¹⁵for I have given you an example that, as I have done to you, ye should do also.

¹⁶Vere, vere, mi diras al vi:Sklavo ne estas pli granda ol lia sinjoro; nek estas la sendito pli granda ol la sendinto.

¹⁶Verily, verily, I say to you, The bondman is not greater than his lord, nor the sent greater than he who has sent him.

¹⁷Se cxi tion vi scias, vi estas felicxaj, se tion vi faras.

¹⁷If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.

¹⁸Ne pri vi cxiuj mi parolas; mi scias, kiujn mi elektis; sed por ke plenumigxu la Skribo:Tiu, kiu mangxas mian panon, levis kontraux min la piedon.

¹⁸I speak not of you all. I know those whom I have chosen; but that the scripture might be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

¹⁹De nun mi parolas al vi pri tio, antaux ol gxi okazos, por ke, kiam gxi okazos, vi kredu, ke mi estas.

¹⁹I tell you [it] now before it happens, that when it happens, ye may believe that I am [he].

²⁰Vere, vere, mi diras al vi:Kiu akceptas tiun, kiun mi sendas, tiu akceptas min; kaj kiu min akceptas, tiu akceptas Tiun, kiu min sendis.

²⁰Verily, verily, I say to you, He who receives whomsoever I shall send receives me; and he that receives me receives him who has sent me.

²¹Dirinte tion, Jesuo maltrankviligxis en spirito, kaj ateste parolis, dirante:Vere, vere, mi diras al vi, ke unu el vi min perfidos.

²¹Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you shall deliver me up.

²²Tiam la discxiploj rigardis unu la alian, dubante pri kiu li parolas.

²²The disciples therefore looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke.

²³Estis apud la sino de Jesuo unu el liaj discxiploj, kiun Jesuo amis.

²³Now there was at table one of his disciples in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus loved.

²⁴Simon Petro do faris signon al li, ke li demandu, pri kiu li parolas.

²⁴Simon Peter makes a sign therefore to him to ask who it might be of whom he spoke.

²⁵Tiu do, klinigxante al la brusto de Jesuo, diris al li:Sinjoro, kiu gxi estas?

²⁵But he, leaning on the breast of Jesus, says to him, Lord, who is it?

²⁶Jesuo respondis:GXi estas tiu, por kiu mi trempos la pecon kaj donos al li. Kaj trempinte la pecon, li donis gxin al Judas Iskariota, filo de Simon.

²⁶Jesus answers, He it is to whom I, after I have dipped the morsel, give it. And having dipped the morsel, he gives it to Judas [son] of Simon, Iscariote.

²⁷Kaj post la peco, tiam Satano eniris en lin. Jesuo do diris al li:Kion vi faras, tion faru senprokraste.

²⁷And, after the morsel, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore says to him, What thou doest, do quickly.

²⁸Sed neniu el la kunmangxantoj sciis, kial li diris al li tion.

²⁸But none of those at table knew why he said this to him;

²⁹Iuj pensis, cxar Judas havis la monujon, ke Jesuo diris al li:Acxetu tion, kion ni bezonas por la festo; aux ke li donu ion al la malricxuloj.

²⁹for some supposed, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus was saying to him, Buy the things of which we have need for the feast; or that he should give something to the poor.

³⁰Li do, ricevinte la pecon, tuj eliris; kaj estis nokto.

³⁰Having therefore received the morsel, he went out immediately; and it was night.

³¹Kiam li eliris, Jesuo diris:Nun la Filo de homo estas glorata, kaj Dio estas glorata en li;

³¹When therefore he was gone out Jesus says, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

³²kaj Dio gloros lin en Si mem, kaj tuj Li gloros lin.

³²If God be glorified in him, God also shall glorify him in himself, and shall glorify him immediately.

³³Infanoj, ankoraux mallongan tempon mi estas kun vi. Vi min sercxos; kaj kiel mi diris al la Judoj:Kien mi iras, tien vi ne povas veni, tiel ankaux al vi mi nun diras.

³³Children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and, as I said to the Jews, Where I go ye cannot come, I say to you also now.

³⁴Novan ordonon mi donas al vi, ke vi amu unu alian; kiel mi amis vin, tiel vi ankaux amu unu alian.

³⁴A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

³⁵Per tio cxiuj homoj scios, ke vi estas miaj discxiploj, se vi havos amon unu al alia.

³⁵By this shall all know that ye are disciples of mine, if ye have love amongst yourselves.

³⁶Simon Petro diris al li:Sinjoro, kien vi iras? Jesuo respondis:Kien mi iras, vi ne povas min sekvi nun, sed poste vi min sekvos.

³⁶Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go thou canst not follow me now, but thou shalt follow me after.

³⁷Petro diris al li:Sinjoro, kial mi ne povas vin sekvi nun? mi demetos por vi mian vivon.

³⁷Peter says to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.

³⁸Jesuo respondis al li:CXu vi demetos por mi vian vivon? Vere, vere, mi diras al vi:La koko ne krios, antaux ol vi min malkonfesos tri fojojn.

³⁸Jesus answers, Thou wilt lay down thy life for me! Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock shall not crow till thou hast denied me thrice.
