¹Kaj la Izraelidoj jxuris en Micpa, dirante:Neniu el ni donos sian filinon edzinige al Benjamenido.

¹Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter to the Benjaminites as wife.

²Kaj la popolo venis en Bet-Elon, kaj restis tie gxis la vespero antaux Dio, kaj levis sian vocxon kaj forte ploris,

²And the people came to Bethel, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices and wept bitterly,

³kaj diris:Kial, ho Eternulo, Dio de Izrael, farigxis tio en Izrael, ke malaperis nun el Izrael unu tribo?

³and said, Jehovah, God of Israel, why is it come to pass in Israel, that there should be this day one tribe lacking in Israel?

⁴La morgauxan tagon la popolo levigxis frue kaj konstruis tie altaron kaj oferis bruloferojn kaj pacoferojn.

⁴And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered up burnt-offerings and peace-offerings.

⁵Kaj la Izraelidoj diris:Kiu homo el cxiuj triboj de Izrael ne venis kun la komunumo al la Eternulo? CXar estis farita granda jxuro pri tiuj, kiuj ne venis al la Eternulo en Micpan, ke ili estos mortigitaj.

⁵And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation to Jehovah? For they had [made] a great oath concerning him that came not up to Jehovah to Mizpah, saying, He shall certainly be put to death.

⁶Kaj la Izraelidoj ekpentis pri siaj fratoj la Benjamenidoj, kaj diris:Forhakita estas hodiaux unu tribo el Izrael!

⁶And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, To-day is one tribe extirpated from Israel.

⁷kion ni faros al ili, al la restintoj, koncerne edzinojn? ni jxuris ja per la Eternulo, ke ni ne donos al ili edzinojn el niaj filinoj.

⁷What shall we do for wives for them that remain? since we have sworn by Jehovah that we will not give them of our daughters for wives.

⁸Kaj ili diris:Kiu homo el la triboj de Izrael ne venis al la Eternulo en Micpan? Kaj tiam montrigxis, ke en la tendaron al la komunumo venis neniu el Jabesx en Gilead.

⁸And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpah to Jehovah? And behold, there came none to the camp from Jabesh-Gilead, to the congregation;

⁹Kaj oni reviziis la popolon, kaj montrigxis, ke tie estas neniu el la logxantoj de Jabesx en Gilead.

⁹for the people were numbered, and behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead there.

¹⁰Tiam la komunumo sendis tien dek du mil homojn el la viroj batalkapablaj, kaj ordonis al ili jene:Iru kaj mortigu per glavo la logxantojn de Jabesx en Gilead, ankaux la virinojn kaj infanojn.

¹⁰And the assembly sent thither twelve thousand men of the most valiant and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead with the edge of the sword, and the women and the children.

¹¹Kaj tiel agu:cxiun virseksulon, kaj cxiun virinon, kiu ekkonis kusxejon de viro, ekstermu.

¹¹And this is the thing which ye shall do: ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain with man.

¹²Kaj ili trovis inter la logxantoj de Jabesx en Gilead kvarcent junajn virgulinojn, kiuj ne ekkonis kusxejon de viro; kaj ili venigis ilin en la tendaron en SXilon, kiu estas en la lando Kanaana.

¹²And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women that were virgins, who had known no man by lying with any male, and they brought them to the camp, to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹³Kaj la tuta komunumo sendis, por paroli kun la Benjamenidoj, kiuj estis cxe la roko Rimon, kaj anonci al ili pacon.

¹³And the whole assembly sent to speak to the children of Benjamin that were at the cliff of Rimmon, and to proclaim peace to them.

¹⁴Tiam la Benjamenidoj revenis, kaj oni donis al ili la virinojn, kiuj restis vivaj el la virinoj de Jabesx en Gilead; sed ne estis suficxe por ili.

¹⁴And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them the wives whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-Gilead; but even so they found not enough for them.

¹⁵Kaj la popolo bedauxris pri Benjamen, cxar la Eternulo faris fendon en la triboj de Izrael.

¹⁵And the people repented them for Benjamin, because Jehovah had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

¹⁶Kaj la plejagxuloj de la komunumo diris:Kion ni faru al la restintoj koncerne edzinojn? ekstermitaj estas ja la virinoj de Benjamen.

¹⁶And the elders of the assembly said, What shall we do for wives for them that remain? for the women have been destroyed out of Benjamin.

¹⁷Kaj ili diris:La restintoj el la Benjamenidoj bezonas ja heredontojn, por ke ne malaperu tribo el Izrael;

¹⁷And they said, There must be a possession for those of Benjamin that have escaped, that a tribe be not blotted out of Israel.

¹⁸kaj ni ne povas doni al ili edzinojn el niaj filinoj, cxar la Izraelidoj jxuris, dirante:Malbenita estu tiu, kiu donos edzinon al Benjamenido.

¹⁸But we cannot give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to the Benjaminites!

¹⁹Sed ili diris:Jen cxiujare estas festo de la Eternulo en SXilo, kiu estas norde de Bet-El, oriente de la vojo, kiu kondukas de Bet-El al SXehxem, kaj sude de Lebona.

¹⁹And they said, Behold, there is a feast of Jehovah from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north side of Bethel, toward the sun-rising of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

²⁰Kaj ili ordonis al la Benjamenidoj jene:Iru kaj faru insidon en la vinbergxardenoj;

²⁰And they commanded the sons of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

²¹kaj kiam vi vidos, ke la knabinoj de SXilo eliras, por danci en rondoj, tiam eliru el la vinbergxardenoj kaj kaptu al vi cxiu edzinon el la knabinoj de SXilo kaj iru en la landon de la Benjamenidoj.

²¹and see, and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

²²Kaj se venos iliaj patroj aux fratoj kun plendo al ni, ni diros al ili:Pardonu nin pro ili; cxar ni ne prenis por cxiu edzinon en la milito, kaj vi ne donis al ili; tial vi estas nun senkulpaj.

²²And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come to complain to us, that we will say to them, Gratify us with them, because we did not take each man his wife in the war; for ye did not give them to them, that ye should now be guilty.

²³Kaj tiel agis la Benjamenidoj, kaj prenis edzinojn laux sia nombro el la dancrondoj, rabinte ilin; kaj ili iris kaj revenis al sia posedajxo kaj konstruis urbojn kaj eklogxis en ili.

²³And the children of Benjamin did so, and took wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught; and they went and returned to their inheritance, and built the cities, and dwelt in them.

²⁴Kaj en la sama tempo disiris de tie la Izraelidoj, cxiu al sia tribo kaj al sia familio, kaj cxiu foriris de tie al sia posedajxo.

²⁴And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

²⁵En tiu tempo ne ekzistis regxo cxe Izrael; cxiu faradis tion, kio placxis al li.

²⁵In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.
