¹And it came to pass as he was in a certain place praying, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, even as John also taught his disciples.

²Kaj li diris al ili:Kiam vi pregxas, diru:Patro, Estu sanktigita Via nomo. Venu Via regno.

²And he said to them, When ye pray, say, Father, thy name be hallowed; thy kingdom come;

³Donu al ni tagon post tago nian cxiutagan panon.

³give us our needed bread for each day;

⁴Kaj pardonu al ni niajn pekojn, cxar ni ankaux pardonas al cxiu, kiu sxuldas al ni. Kaj ne konduku nin en tenton.

⁴and remit us our sins, for we also remit to every one indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation.

⁵Kaj li diris al ili:Kiu el vi havos amikon, kaj iros al li noktomeze, kaj diros al li:Amiko, pruntu al mi tri panojn;

⁵And he said to them, Who among you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, let me have three loaves,

⁶cxar amiko mia venis al mi post vojagxo, kaj mi ne havas, kion meti antaux lin;

⁶since a friend of mine on a journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him;

⁷kaj tiu de interne respondos kaj diros:Ne gxenu min; la pordo estas jam fermita, kaj miaj infanoj kun mi estas en lito; mi ne povas min levi kaj doni al vi?

⁷and he within answering should say, Do not disturb me; the door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise up to give [it] thee?

⁸Mi diras al vi:Kvankam li ne volos pro sia amikeco al li levigxi kaj doni al li, tamen, pro cxi ties persisteco li levigxos kaj donos al li tiom, kiom li bezonas.

⁸-- I say to you, Although he will not get up and give [them] to him because he is his friend, because of his shamelessness, at any rate, he will rise and give him as many as he wants.

⁹Kaj mi diras al vi:Petu, kaj al vi estos donite; sercxu, kaj vi trovos; frapu, kaj al vi estos malfermite.

⁹And *I* say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

¹⁰CXar cxiu petanto ricevas; kaj la sercxanto trovas; kaj al la frapanto estos malfermite.

¹⁰For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it will be opened.

¹¹Kaj de kiu el vi, kiu estas patro, filo petos panon, kaj li donos al li sxtonon? aux se li petas fisxon, cxu li anstataux fisxo donos al li serpenton?

¹¹But of whom of you that is a father shall a son ask bread, and [the father] shall give him a stone? or also a fish, and instead of a fish shall give him a serpent?

¹²Aux se li petos ovon, cxu li donos al li skorpion?

¹²or if also he shall ask an egg, shall give him a scorpion?

¹³Se vi do, estante malbonaj, scias doni bonajn donacojn al viaj infanoj, des pli via Patro cxiela donos la Sanktan Spiriton al tiuj, kiuj petos al Li.

¹³If therefore *ye*, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall the Father who is of heaven give [the] Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

¹⁴Kaj li estis elpelanta demonon, kiu estis muta. Kaj kiam la demono eliris, la mutulo parolis; kaj la homamaso miregis.

¹⁴And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb; and it came to pass, the demon being gone out, the dumb [man] spoke. And the crowds wondered.

¹⁵Sed iuj el ili diris:Per Baal-Zebub, la estro de la demonoj, li elpelas demonojn.

¹⁵But some from among them said, By Beelzebub the prince of the demons casts he out demons.

¹⁶Kaj aliaj, tentante lin, postulis de li signon el la cxielo.

¹⁶And others tempting [him] sought from him a sign out of heaven.

¹⁷Sed li, sciante iliajn pensojn, diris al ili:CXiu regno, dividita kontraux si, dezertigxas; kaj domo, dividita kontraux domo, falas.

¹⁷But *he*, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation: and a house set against a house falls;

¹⁸Kaj se ankaux Satano dividigxas kontraux si, kiel staros lia regno? cxar vi diras, ke per Baal-Zebub mi elpelas demonojn.

¹⁸and if also Satan is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom subsist? because ye say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub.

¹⁹Kaj se per Baal-Zebub mi elpelas demonojn, per kiu viaj filoj ilin elpelas? tial ili estos viaj jugxantoj.

¹⁹But if *I* by Beelzebub cast out demons, your sons -- by whom do they cast [them] out? For this reason *they* shall be your judges.

²⁰Sed se per la fingro de Dio mi elpelas demonojn, tiam la regno de Dio jam venis sur vin.

²⁰But if by the finger of God I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God is come upon you.

²¹Kiam fortulo plene armita gardas sian palacon, en paco estas liaj posedajxoj;

²¹When the strong [man] armed keeps his own house, his goods are in peace;

²²sed kiam venas iu pli forta ol li kaj venkos lin, li forprenas lian plenarmilaron, al kiu li fidis, kaj disdonas lian havon.

²²but when the stronger than he coming upon [him] overcomes him, he takes away his panoply in which he trusted, and he will divide the spoil [he has taken] from him.

²³Kiu ne estas kun mi, tiu estas kontraux mi; kaj kiu ne kolektas kun mi, tiu disjxetas.

²³He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathers not with me scatters.

²⁴Kiam la malpura spirito eliris el homo, gxi trairas tra senakvaj lokoj, sercxante ripozon; kaj ne trovante gxin, diras:Mi reiros al mia domo, el kie mi eliris.

²⁴When the unclean spirit has gone out of the man, he goes through dry places seeking rest; and not finding [any] he says, I will return to my house whence I came out.

²⁵Kaj alveninte, gxi trovas gxin balaita kaj ornamita.

²⁵And having come, he finds it swept and adorned.

²⁶Tiam gxi iras kaj alprenas al si sep aliajn spiritojn pli malbonajn ol gxi mem, kaj ili, enirinte, logxas tie; kaj la fina stato de tiu homo farigxas pli malbona, ol la unua.

²⁶Then he goes and takes seven other spirits worse than himself, and entering in, they dwell there; and the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first.

²⁷Kaj dum li cxi tion parolis, unu virino el la homamaso levis sian vocxon, kaj diris al li:Felicxaj estas la ventro, kiu naskis vin, kaj la mamoj, kiujn vi sucxis.

²⁷And it came to pass as he spake these things, a certain woman, lifting up her voice out of the crowd, said to him, Blessed is the womb that has borne thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

²⁸Sed li diris:Sed pli gxuste, felicxaj estas tiuj, kiuj auxdas la vorton de Dio kaj observas gxin.

²⁸But *he* said, Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God and keep [it].

²⁹Kaj kiam la homamaso kolektigxis al li, li ekparolis, dirante:CXi tiu generacio estas malbona generacio; gxi sercxas signon, kaj signo ne estos donita al gxi, krom la signo de Jona.

²⁹But as the crowds thronged together, he began to say, This generation is a wicked generation: it seeks a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it but the sign of Jonas.

³⁰CXar kiel Jona estis signo por la Nineveanoj, tiel ankaux estos la Filo de homo por cxi tiu generacio.

³⁰For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninevites, thus shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

³¹La regxino de la sudo levigxos en la jugxado kun la viroj de cxi tiu generacio, kaj ilin kondamnos; cxar sxi venis el la finoj de la tero, por auxskulti la sagxon de Salomono; kaj jen iu pli granda ol Salomono estas cxi tie.

³¹A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, more than Solomon is here.

³²Viroj Nineveanoj staros en la jugxado kun cxi tiu generacio, kaj gxin kondamnos; cxar ili pentis pro la predikado de Jona; kaj jen iu pli granda ol Jona estas cxi tie.

³²Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and behold, more than Jonas is here.

³³Kiam oni ekbruligis lampon, oni metas gxin ne en kasxejon, nek sub grenmezurilon, sed sur la lampingon, por ke la enirantoj povu vidi la lumon.

³³But no one having lit a lamp sets it in secret, nor under the corn-measure, but on the lamp-stand, that they who enter in may see the light.

³⁴La lampo de via korpo estas via okulo; kiam via okulo estas sendifekta, via tuta korpo estas luma; sed kiam gxi estas malbona, via korpo ankaux estas malluma.

³⁴The lamp of the body is thine eye: when thine eye is simple, thy whole body also is light; but when it is wicked, thy body also is dark.

³⁵Tial viglu, ke la lumo, kiu estas en vi, ne estu mallumo.

³⁵See therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

³⁶Tial, se via tuta korpo estas luma, havante nenian malluman parton, gxi estos tute lumplena, kiel kiam la lampo lumas al vi per sia brilo.

³⁶If therefore thy whole body [is] light, not having any part dark, it shall be all light as when the lamp lights thee with its brightness.

³⁷Kaj dum li parolis, unu Fariseo invitis lin matenmangxi kun li; kaj li eniris kaj sidigxis.

³⁷But as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him that he would dine with him; and entering in he placed himself at table.

³⁸Kaj la Fariseo, ekvidinte, miris, ke li ne lavis sin antaux la matenmangxo.

³⁸But the Pharisee seeing [it] wondered that he had not first washed before dinner.

³⁹Kaj la Sinjoro diris al li:Vi Fariseoj purigas la eksteron de kaliko kaj plado, sed via interno estas plena de rabado kaj malvirto.

³⁹But the Lord said to him, Now do ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but your inward [parts] are full of plunder and wickedness.

⁴⁰Malsagxuloj! cxu Tiu, kiu faris la eksteron, ne faris ankaux la internon?

⁴⁰Fools, has not he who has made the outside made the inside also?

⁴¹Tamen, uzu por almozo la internajxojn, kaj jen cxio estas al vi pura.

⁴¹But rather give alms of what ye have, and behold, all things are clean to you.

⁴²Sed ve al vi, Fariseoj! cxar vi pagas dekonajxojn de mento kaj ruto kaj cxiu vegetajxo, kaj preterlasas jugxon kaj amon al Dio; cxi tion vi devus fari, kaj tion ne preterlasi.

⁴²But woe unto you, Pharisees, for ye pay tithes of mint and rue and every herb, and pass by the judgment and the love of God: these ye ought to have done, and not have left those aside.

⁴³Ve al vi, Fariseoj! cxar vi amas la cxefsegxojn en la sinagogoj, kaj la salutojn sur la placoj.

⁴³Woe unto you, Pharisees, for ye love the first seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market-places.

⁴⁴Ve al vi! cxar vi similas tombojn ne vidatajn; kaj la homoj, kiuj iras super ili, ne scias.

⁴⁴Woe unto you, for ye are as the sepulchres which appear not, and the men walking over them do not know [it].

⁴⁵Kaj unu el la legxistoj responde diris al li:Majstro, dirante cxi tion, vi ankaux nin riprocxas.

⁴⁵And one of the doctors of the law answering says to him, Teacher, in saying these things thou insultest us also.

⁴⁶Kaj li diris:Ve ankaux al vi, legxistoj! cxar vi sxargxas homojn per sxargxoj malfacile porteblaj, kaj vi mem ne tusxas ecx per unu el viaj fingroj la sxargxojn.

⁴⁶And he said, To you also woe, doctors of the law, for ye lay upon men burdens heavy to bear, and yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

⁴⁷Ve al vi! cxar vi konstruas la tombojn de la profetoj, kiujn viaj patroj mortigis.

⁴⁷Woe unto you, for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, but your fathers killed them.

⁴⁸Tial vi estas atestantoj, kaj konsentas al la faroj de viaj patroj; cxar ili mortigis ilin, kaj vi konstruas la tombojn.

⁴⁸Ye bear witness then, and consent to the works of your fathers; for *they* killed them, and *ye* build [their sepulchres].

⁴⁹Tial ankaux diris la sagxo de Dio:Mi sendos al ili profetojn kaj apostolojn, kaj iujn el tiuj ili mortigos kaj persekutos;

⁴⁹For this reason also the wisdom of God has said, I will send to them prophets and apostles, and of these shall they kill and drive out by persecution,

⁵⁰por ke la sango de cxiuj profetoj, kiu estis elversxita de post la komenco de la mondo, estu postulita el cxi tiu generacio,

⁵⁰that the blood of all the prophets which has been poured out from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

⁵¹de la sango de Habel gxis la sango de Zehxarja, kiu pereis inter la altaro kaj la sankta domo; jes, mi diras al vi:GXi estos postulita el cxi tiu generacio.

⁵¹from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.

⁵²Ve al vi, legxistoj! cxar vi forprenis la sxlosilon de la scio; vi mem ne eniris, kaj vi malhelpis la enirantajn.

⁵²Woe unto you, the doctors of the law, for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; yourselves have not entered in, and those who were entering in ye have hindered.

⁵³Kaj kiam li eliris el tie, la skribistoj kaj la Fariseoj atakis lin insiste, kaj instigis lin paroli pri multaj aferoj;

⁵³And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him urgently, and to make him speak of many things;

⁵⁴insidante kontraux li, por kapti ion el lia busxo.

⁵⁴watching him, [and seeking] to catch something out of his mouth, [that they might accuse him].
