¹Kaj kiam Jesuo finis siajn ordonojn al siaj dek du discxiploj, li foriris de tie, por instrui kaj prediki en iliaj urboj.

¹And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.

²Kaj kiam Johano auxdis en la malliberejo pri la faroj de Kristo, li sendis per siaj discxiploj,

²But John, having heard in the prison the works of the Christ, sent by his disciples,

³por diri al li:CXu vi estas la venonto, aux cxu ni atendu alian?

³and said to him, Art *thou* the coming [one]? or are we to wait for another?

⁴Kaj Jesuo responde diris al ili:Iru kaj sciigu al Johano tion, kion vi auxdas kaj vidas:

⁴And Jesus answering said to them, Go, report to John what ye hear and see.

⁵blinduloj ricevas vidpovon, kaj lamuloj marsxas, lepruloj estas purigitaj, kaj surduloj auxdas, kaj mortintoj levigxas, kaj al malricxuloj evangelio estas predikata.

⁵Blind [men] see and lame walk; lepers are cleansed, and deaf hear; and dead are raised, and poor have glad tidings preached to them:

⁶Kaj felicxa estas cxiu, kiu ne falpusxigxas pro mi.

⁶and blessed is whosoever shall not be offended in me.

⁷Kaj kiam ili foriris, Jesuo komencis paroli al la homamasoj pri Johano:Kion vi eliris en la dezerton por rigardi? cxu junkon skuatan de la vento?

⁷But as they went [away], Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed moved about by the wind?

⁸Sed kion vi eliris por vidi? cxu homon mole vestitan? Jen tiuj, kiuj portas molajn vestojn, trovigxas en domoj de regxoj.

⁸But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in delicate raiment? behold, those who wear delicate things are in the houses of kings.

⁹Sed kion vi eliris por vidi? cxu profeton? Jes, mi diras al vi, kaj multe pli ol profeton.

⁹But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet:

¹⁰CXar li estas tiu, pri kiu estas skribite: Jen Mi sendos Mian angxelon antaux via vizagxo, Kaj li preparos antaux vi vian vojon.

¹⁰this is he of whom it is written, Behold, *I* send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.

¹¹Vere mi diras al vi:Inter naskitoj de virinoj ne aperis iu pli granda ol Johano, la Baptisto; tamen tiu, kiu estas nur malgranda en la regno de la cxielo, estas pli granda ol li.

¹¹Verily I say to you, that there is not arisen among [the] born of women a greater than John the baptist. But he who is a little one in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.

¹²Kaj de post la tagoj de Johano, la Baptisto, gxis nun, la regno de la cxielo estas perfortata, kaj perfortuloj kaptas gxin.

¹²But from the days of John the baptist until now, the kingdom of the heavens is taken by violence, and [the] violent seize on it.

¹³CXar cxiuj profetoj kaj la legxo profetis gxis Johano.

¹³For all the prophets and the law have prophesied unto John.

¹⁴Kaj se vi volas tion ricevi, tiu estas Elija, kiu estis venonta.

¹⁴And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, who is to come.

¹⁵Kiu havas orelon por auxdi, tiu auxdu.

¹⁵He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁶Sed al kio mi komparu cxi tiun generacion? GXi similas al infanoj, kiuj sidas sur la placoj, kaj vokas al la ceteraj,

¹⁶But to whom shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the markets, which, calling to their companions,

¹⁷dirante:Ni flutis al vi, kaj vi ne dancis; ni lamentis, kaj vi ne ploris.

¹⁷say, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced: we have mourned to you, and ye have not wailed.

¹⁸CXar venis Johano, nek mangxante nek trinkante, kaj ili diras:Li havas demonon.

¹⁸For John has come neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon.

¹⁹La Filo de homo venis, mangxante kaj trinkante, kaj ili diras:Jen mangxegulo kaj vindrinkulo, amiko de impostistoj kaj pekuloj! Kaj la sagxeco estas pravigita de siaj faroj.

¹⁹The Son of man has come eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man [that is] eating and wine-drinking, a friend of tax-gatherers, and of sinners: -- and wisdom has been justified by her children.

²⁰Tiam li komenci riprocxi la urbojn, en kiuj estis faritaj la plej multaj el liaj potencaj faroj; cxar ili ne pentis.

²⁰Then began he to reproach the cities in which most of his works of power had taken place, because they had not repented.

²¹Ve al vi, HXorazin! Ve al vi, Betsaida! CXar se en Tiro kaj Cidon estus faritaj tiuj potencajxoj, kiuj estas faritaj en vi, antaux longe ili jam pentus en sakajxo kaj cindro.

²¹Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the works of power which have taken place in you, had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they had long ago repented in sackcloth and ashes.

²²Tamen mi diras al vi:Estos pli elporteble por Tiro kaj Cidon en la tago de jugxado, ol por vi.

²²But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in judgment-day than for you.

²³Kaj vi, Kapernaum! cxu vi estos altigita gxis la cxielo? vi malsuprenigxos gxis Hades; cxar se en Sodom estus faritaj tiuj potencajxoj, kiuj estas faritaj en vi, gxi restus gxis hodiaux.

²³And *thou*, Capernaum, who hast been raised up to heaven, shalt be brought down even to hades. For if the works of power which have taken place in thee, had taken place in Sodom, it had remained until this day.

²⁴Tamen mi diras al vi:Estos pli elporteble por la lando de Sodom en la tago de jugxado, ol por vi.

²⁴But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable for [the] land of Sodom in judgment-day than for thee.

²⁵En tiu tempo Jesuo ekparolis kaj diris:Mi Vin gloras, ho Patro, Sinjoro de la cxielo kaj la tero, ke tion Vi kasxis for de sagxuloj kaj prudentuloj, kaj malkasxis al infanoj;

²⁵At that time, Jesus answering said, I praise thee, Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes.

²⁶jes, Patro, cxar tiel estis bone antaux Vi.

²⁶Yea, Father, for thus has it been well-pleasing in thy sight.

²⁷CXio estas transdonita al mi de mia Patro, kaj neniu konas la Filon krom la Patro, nek iu konas la Patron krom la Filo, kaj tiu, al kiu la Filo volas malkasxi Lin.

²⁷All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son but the Father, nor does any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom the Son may be pleased to reveal [him].

²⁸Venu al mi cxiuj, kiuj estas laborantaj kaj sxargxitaj, kaj mi vin ripozigos.

²⁸Come to me, all ye who labour and are burdened, and *I* will give you rest.

²⁹Metu sur vin mian jugon, kaj lernu cxe mi, cxar mi estas milda kaj korhumila; kaj vi trovos ripozon por viaj animoj.

²⁹Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest to your souls;

³⁰CXar mia jugo estas facila, kaj mia sxargxo estas malpeza.

³⁰for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
