¹Kaj la Eternulo ekparolis al Moseo, dirante:

¹And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

²Sendu virojn, ke ili esplorrigardu la landon Kanaanan, kiun Mi donas al la Izraelidoj; po unu viro el cxiu tribo de iliaj patroj sendu, cxiu estu eminentulo inter ili.

²Send thou men, that they may search out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel. Ye shall send a man of every tribe of his fathers, each a prince among them.

³Kaj Moseo sendis ilin el la dezerto Paran laux la ordono de la Eternulo; cxiuj ili estis eminentuloj inter la Izraelidoj.

³And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran: according to the commandment of Jehovah, all of them heads of the children of Israel.

⁴Kaj jen estas iliaj nomoj:el la tribo de Ruben, SXamua, filo de Zakur;

⁴And these are their names: for the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;

⁵el la tribo de Simeon, SXafat, filo de HXori;

⁵for the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;

⁶el la tribo de Jehuda, Kaleb, filo de Jefune;

⁶for the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;

⁷el la tribo de Isahxar, Jigal, filo de Jozef;

⁷for the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;

⁸el la tribo de Efraim, Hosxea, filo de Nun;

⁸for the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;

⁹el la tribo de Benjamen, Palti, filo de Rafu;

⁹for the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;

¹⁰el la tribo de Zebulun, Gadiel, filo de Sodi;

¹⁰for the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;

¹¹el la tribo de Jozef, el la tribo de Manase, Gadi, filo de Susi;

¹¹for the tribe of Joseph, for the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;

¹²el la tribo de Dan, Amiel, filo de Gemali;

¹²for the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;

¹³el la tribo de Asxer, Setur, filo de Mihxael;

¹³for the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;

¹⁴el la tribo de Naftali, Nahxbi, filo de Vofsi;

¹⁴for the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;

¹⁵el la tribo de Gad, Geuel, filo de Mahxi.

¹⁵for the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

¹⁶Tio estas la nomoj de la viroj, kiujn Moseo sendis, por esplorrigardi la landon. Kaj Moseo donis al Hosxea, filo de Nun, la nomon Josuo.

¹⁶These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to search out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Jehoshua.

¹⁷Kaj Moseo sendis ilin, por esplorrigardi la landon Kanaanan, kaj diris al ili:Iru tien tra la Sudo kaj suriru sur la monton;

¹⁷And Moses sent them to search out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up this way by the south and go up into the hill-country,

¹⁸kaj rigardu la landon, kia gxi estas; kaj la popolon, kiu logxas en gxi, cxu gxi estas forta aux malforta, cxu gxi estas malgrandnombra aux grandnombra;

¹⁸and ye shall see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell in it, whether they are strong or weak, few or many;

¹⁹kaj kia estas la tero, sur kiu gxi sidas, cxu gxi estas bona aux malbona; kaj kiaj estas la urboj, en kiuj gxi logxas, cxu en tendaroj aux en fortikajxoj;

¹⁹and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;

²⁰kaj kia estas la tero, cxu gxi estas grasa aux malgrasa, cxu estas sur gxi arboj aux ne estas; kaj estu kuragxaj, kaj prenu iom el la fruktoj de la lando. Kaj tiam estis la tempo de maturigxado de vinberoj.

²⁰and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there are trees in it, or not. And take courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first grapes.

²¹Kaj ili iris kaj esplorrigardis la landon de la dezerto Cin gxis Rehxob antaux HXamat.

²¹And they went up, and searched out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, where one comes towards Hamath.

²²Kaj ili iris tra la Sudo, kaj venis gxis HXebron, kie logxis Ahximan, SXesxaj, kaj Talmaj, idoj de Anak. (HXebron estis konstruita sep jarojn antaux ol Coan de Egiptujo.)

²²And they went up by the south, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. Now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.

²³Kaj ili venis gxis la valo Esxkol, kaj ili detrancxis tie brancxon kun unu peniko da vinberoj, kaj ili ekportis gxin sur stango duope; ankaux iom da granatoj kaj da figoj.

²³And they came as far as the valley of Eshcol, and cut down thence a branch with one bunch of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a pole; and [they brought] of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

²⁴Al tiu loko oni donis la nomon Esxkol, pro la peniko da vinberoj, kiun detrancxis tie la Izraelidoj.

²⁴That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the grapes which the children of Israel had cut down there.

²⁵Kaj ili revenis post la esplorrigardo de la lando post kvardek tagoj.

²⁵And they returned from searching out the land after forty days.

²⁶Kaj ili iris kaj venis al Moseo kaj al Aaron kaj al la tuta komunumo de la Izraelidoj en la dezerton Paran, en la lokon Kadesx, kaj donis al ili raporton kaj al la tuta komunumo kaj montris al ili la fruktojn de la lando.

²⁶And they came, and went to Moses and to Aaron, and to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to the whole assembly; and shewed them the fruit of the land.

²⁷Kaj ili rakontis al li, kaj diris:Ni venis en la landon, en kiun vi sendis nin, kaj efektive en gxi fluas lakto kaj mielo, kaj jen estas gxiaj fruktoj;

²⁷And they told him, and said, We came to the land to which thou didst send us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

²⁸sed forta estas la popolo, kiu logxas en la lando, kaj la urboj estas fortikigitaj, tre grandaj; kaj ankaux la idojn de Anak ni vidis tie.

²⁸Only, the people are strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, very great; moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

²⁹Amalek logxas en la suda parto de la lando, kaj la HXetidoj kaj Jebusidoj kaj Amoridoj logxas sur la monto, kaj la Kanaanidoj logxas apud la maro kaj sur la bordo de Jordan.

²⁹Amalek dwells in the land of the south; and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill-country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the side of the Jordan.

³⁰Kaj Kaleb trankviligis la popolon antaux Moseo, kaj diris:Ni iros, kaj ni ekposedos gxin, cxar ni povas gxin venki.

³⁰And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up boldly and possess it, for we are well able to do it.

³¹Sed la viroj, kiuj iris kun li, diris:Ni ne povas iri al tiu popolo, cxar gxi estas pli forta ol ni.

³¹But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.

³²Kaj pri la lando, kiun ili esplorrigardis, ili disvastigis inter la Izraelidoj malbonan famon, dirante:La lando, kiun ni trapasis por esplorrigardi gxin, estas lando, kiu formangxas siajn logxantojn, kaj la tuta popolo, kiun ni vidis en gxi, estas homoj grandkreskaj;

³²And they brought to the children of Israel an evil report of the land which they had searched out, saying, The land, which we have passed through to search it out, is a land that eateth up its inhabitants; and all the people that we have seen in it are men of great stature;

³³kaj tie ni vidis la gigantojn, la idojn de Anak el la gigantoj, kaj ni estis en niaj okuloj kiel lokustoj, kaj tiaj ni estis ankaux en iliaj okuloj.

³³and there have we seen giants -- the sons of Anak are of the giants -- and we were in our sight as grasshoppers, and so we were also in their sight.
