1Rigardu, kian amon la Patro donis al ni, ke ni estas nomataj infanoj de Dio; kaj tiaj ni estas. Pro tio la mondo nin ne konas, cxar gxi Lin ne konis.
1Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
2Amataj, nun ni estas infanoj de Dio, kaj ankoraux ne elmontrigxis, kio ni estos. Ni scias, ke se li elmontrigxos, ni estos similaj al li; cxar ni vidos lin, kiel li estas.
2Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.
3Kaj cxiu, kiu havas cxi tiun esperon rilate lin, sin sanktigas tiel same, kiel li estas sankta.
3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

4Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.

5You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.
6CXiu, kiu restas en li, ne pekas; cxiu pekanto lin ne vidis, nek lin konas.
6Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him, neither knows him.
7Infanetoj, neniu vin forlogu; kiu faras justecon, tiu estas justa tiel same, kiel li estas justa;
7Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8kiu faras pekon, tiu estas el la diablo; cxar la diablo pekas de la komenco. Por tio la Filo de Dio elmontrigxis, por ke li detruu la farojn de la diablo.
8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9CXiu, kiu naskigxis de Dio, ne faras pekon, cxar lia semo restas en li; kaj li ne povas peki, cxar li naskigxis de Dio.
9Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
10Jen kiel evidentigxas la infanoj de Dio, kaj la infanoj de la diablo:cxiu, kiu ne faras justecon, ne estas de Dio, nek tiu, kiu ne amas sian fraton.
10In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
11CXar jen estas la anonco, kiun vi auxdis de la komenco:ke ni amu unu la alian;
11For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;
12ne kiel Kain estis de la malbonulo kaj mortigis sian fraton. Kaj pro kio li lin mortigis? CXar liaj faroj estis malbonaj, kaj la faroj de lia frato estis justaj.
12unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13Ne miru, fratoj, se la mondo vin malamas.
13Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
14Ni scias, ke ni jam pasis el morto en vivon, cxar ni amas la fratojn. Kiu ne amas, tiu restas en morto.
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
15CXiu, kiu malamas sian fraton, estas hommortiganto; kaj vi scias, ke cxiu hommortiganto ne havas vivon eternan, restantan en li.
15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16Per cxi tio ni konas amon:cxar li demetis sian vivon pro ni; kaj ni devus demeti nian vivon pro la fratoj.
16By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
17Sed se iu havas mondan posedajxon kaj vidas sian fraton havantan bezonon kaj fermas sian kompaton kontraux li, kiel la amo de Dio restas en li?
17But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
18Infanetoj, ni amu, ne laux vorto nek laux lango, sed laux faro kaj vero.
18My little children, let’s not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
19Per tio ni scios, ke ni estas el la vero, kaj ni certigos nian koron antaux Li
19And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,
20en cxio ajn, pri kio nia koro nin kondamnas; cxar Dio estas pli granda ol nia koro, kaj scias cxion.
20because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21Amataj, se nia koro ne kondamnas nin, ni havas kuragxon antaux Dio;
21Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
22kaj cxion ajn, kion ni petas, ni ricevas de Li, cxar ni observas Liajn ordonojn, kaj faras tion, kio placxas antaux Li.
22and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
23Kaj jen estas Lia ordono, ke ni kredu al la nomo de Lia Filo, Jesuo Kristo, kaj amu unu la alian tiel same, kiel Li al ni donis ordonon.
23This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
24Kaj kiu observas Liajn ordonojn, tiu en Li restas, kaj Li en tiu. Kaj per tio ni scias, ke Li restas en ni:per la Spirito, kiun Li donis al ni.
24He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
