1Kaj la Eternulo diris al Samuel:Kiel longe vi funebros pri Saul, kiun Mi trovis nedigna regxi super Izrael? plenigu vian kornon per oleo, kaj iru; Mi sendos vin al Jisxaj la Bet-Lehxemano, cxar inter liaj filoj Mi elvidis al Mi regxon.
1Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”
2Kaj Samuel diris:Kiel mi iros? Saul auxdos, kaj mortigos min. Sed la Eternulo diris:Prenu kun vi bovidinon, kaj diru:Mi venis, por fari bucxoferon al la Eternulo.
2Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.
3Kaj invitu Jisxajon al la ofero; kaj Mi sciigos al vi, kion vi devas fari, kaj vi sanktoleos al Mi tiun, kiun Mi montros al vi.
3Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. You shall anoint to me him whom I name to you.”
4Kaj Samuel faris tion, kion diris la Eternulo, kaj li venis Bet- Lehxemon. Kun timo iris al li renkonte la plejagxuloj de la urbo, kaj diris:CXu en paco vi venas?
4Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, “Do you come peaceably?”
5Kaj li respondis:En paco; mi venis, por bucxoferi al la Eternulo; sanktigu vin, kaj venu kun mi por la bucxofero. Kaj li sanktigis Jisxajon kaj liajn filojn, kaj invitis ilin al la ofero.
5He said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” He sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6Kiam ili venis, li ekvidis Eliabon, kaj diris:Jen antaux la Eternulo estas Lia sanktoleito.
6It happened, when they had come, that he looked at Eliab, and said, “Surely Yahweh’s anointed is before him.”
7Sed la Eternulo diris al Samuel:Ne rigardu lian aspekton kaj lian altan kreskon, cxar Mi malsxatas lin; ne estas tiel, kiel vidas homo:cxar homo vidas tion, kio estas antaux la okuloj, sed la Eternulo rigardas en la koron.
7But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for I see not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”
8Tiam Jisxaj vokis Abinadabon, kaj pasigis lin antaux Samuel; sed cxi tiu diris:Ankaux cxi tiun la Eternulo ne elektis.
8Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”
9Kaj Jisxaj pasigis SXaman; sed Samuel diris:Ankaux cxi tiun la Eternulo ne elektis.
9Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. He said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”
10Tiel Jisxaj pasigis siajn sep filojn antaux Samuel; sed Samuel diris al Jisxaj:La Eternulo ne elektis cxi tiujn.
10Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, “Yahweh has not chosen these.”
11Kaj Samuel diris al Jisxaj:CXu tio estas jam cxiuj knaboj? Kaj cxi tiu diris:Restas ankoraux la plej juna, li pasxtas nun la sxafojn. Kaj Samuel diris al Jisxaj:Sendu, kaj venigu lin, cxar ni ne sidigxos al la tablo, antaux ol li venos cxi tien.
11Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your children here?” He said, “There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is keeping the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.”
12Kaj li sendis, kaj venigis lin. Kaj li estis rugxa, kun belaj okuloj kaj bonaspekta. Tiam la Eternulo diris:Levigxu, sanktoleu lin, cxar tio estas li.
12He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful face, and goodly to look on. Yahweh said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”
13Kaj Samuel prenis la kornon kun la oleo, kaj sanktoleis lin inter liaj fratoj. Kaj la spirito de la Eternulo ekfavoris Davidon de post tiu tago kaj pluen. Kaj Samuel levigxis kaj iris en Raman.
13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: and the Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
14Kaj la spirito de la Eternulo forigxis de Saul, kaj ekturmentis lin spirito malbona, sendita de la Eternulo.
14Now the Spirit of Yahweh departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh troubled him.
15Kaj la servantoj de Saul diris al li:Jen malbona spirito, sendita de Dio, turmentas vin;
15Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.
16tial nia sinjoro diru al siaj servantoj, ke ili elsercxu homon, kiu povoscias ludi harpon:kaj kiam atakos vin la malbona spirito, sendita de Dio, li ekludos per sia mano, kaj tiam farigxos al vi bone.
16Let our lord now command your servants who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. It shall happen, when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play with his hand, and you shall be well.”
17Kaj Saul diris al siaj servantoj:Elsercxu al mi homon, kiu bone ludas, kaj venigu lin al mi.
17Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”
18Tiam unu el la junuloj respondis kaj diris:CXe Jisxaj la Bet-Lehxemano mi vidis filon, kiu povoscias ludi, kaj li estas fortulo kaj militkapablulo kaj prudenta en siaj paroloj kaj belaspekta, kaj la Eternulo estas kun li.
18Then one of the young men answered, and said, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a comely person; and Yahweh is with him.”
19Kaj Saul sendis senditojn al Jisxaj, kaj dirigis:Sendu al mi vian filon David, kiu estas cxe la sxafoj.
19Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.”
20Tiam Jisxaj prenis azenon, sxargxitan per pano, kaj felsakon kun vino, kaj unu kapridon, kaj li sendis tion per sia filo David al Saul.
20Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by David his son to Saul.

21David came to Saul, and stood before him. He loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer.

22Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me; for he has found favor in my sight.”
23Kaj cxiufoje, kiam la spirito, sendita de Dio, atakis Saulon, David prenadis la harpon kaj ludadis per sia mano; tiam al Saul farigxadis pli facile kaj bone, kaj la malbona spirito forigxadis de li.
23It happened, when the spirit from God was on Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
