¹Kiam Saul revenis de sia iro kontraux la Filisxtoj, oni raportis al li, dirante:Jen David estas en la dezerto En-Gedi.

¹It happened, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”

²Tiam Saul prenis tri mil virojn, elektitajn el la tuta Izrael, kaj iris sercxi Davidon kaj liajn homojn sur la rokoj de la ibeksoj.

²Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.

³Kaj li venis al la barajxoj de la sxafoj cxe la vojo; tie estis kaverno; kaj Saul eniris tien por natura bezono. Kaj David kun siaj homoj estis en la profundo de la kaverno.

³He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

⁴Tiam la homoj de David diris al li:Jen estas la tago, pri kiu la Eternulo diris al vi:Jen Mi transdonos vian malamikon en viajn manojn, por ke vi faru al li tion, kio placxos al vi. Sed David levigxis, kaj nerimarkite detrancxis anguleton de la vesto de Saul.

⁴The men of David said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.

⁵Tamen post tio la koro de David ekbatis en li pro tio, ke li detrancxis la vestanguleton de Saul.

⁵It happened afterward, that David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.

⁶Kaj li diris al siaj homoj:La Eternulo gardu min, ke mi ne faru tian faron al mia sinjoro, al la sanktoleito de la Eternulo, etendante mian manon kontraux lin; li estas ja sanktoleito de la Eternulo.

⁶He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to put forth my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

⁷Kaj David repusxis siajn homojn per la vortoj, kaj ne permesis al ili levigxi kontraux Saulon. Kaj Saul levigxis el la kaverno kaj iris sur la vojon.

⁷So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

⁸Post tio levigxis David kaj eliris el la kaverno, kaj kriis post Saul jene:Mia sinjoro, ho regxo! Saul ekrigardis malantauxen, kaj tiam David klinis sian vizagxon al la tero kaj adorklinigxis.

⁸David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and showed respect.

⁹Kaj David diris al Saul:Kial vi auxskultas la vortojn de homoj, kiuj diras:Jen David sercxas malbonon kontraux vi?

⁹David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words, saying, ‘Behold, David seeks your hurt?’

¹⁰Jen hodiaux viaj okuloj vidis, ke la Eternulo transdonis vin hodiaux en mian manon en la kaverno, kaj oni diris, ke mi mortigu vin; sed mi indulgis vin, kaj mi diris:Mi ne etendos mian manon kontraux mian sinjoron, cxar li estas sanktoleito de la Eternulo.

¹⁰Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you; but I spared you; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Yahweh’s anointed.

¹¹Mia patro, rigardu kaj vidu la anguleton de via vesto en mia mano; el tio, ke mi detrancxis la anguleton de via vesto, sed ne mortigis vin, sciu kaj vidu, ke mi ne havas malbonon nek krimon en mia mano kaj mi ne pekis kontraux vi; sed vi postkuras mian animon, por preni gxin.

¹¹Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.

¹²La Eternulo jugxu inter mi kaj vi, kaj la Eternulo vengxu al vi pro mi; sed mia mano ne estos sur vi.

¹²May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me of you; but my hand shall not be on you.

¹³Kiel diras antikva proverbo:De malpiuloj eliras malpiajxo; sed mia mano ne estos sur vi.

¹³As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes forth wickedness;’ but my hand shall not be on you.

¹⁴Post kiu eliris la regxo de Izrael? kiun vi postkuras? malvivan hundon, unu pulon.

¹⁴Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

¹⁵La Eternulo estu jugxanto kaj jugxu inter mi kaj vi, kaj Li rigardu kaj prizorgu mian proceson kaj defendu min kontraux via mano.

¹⁵May Yahweh therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”

¹⁶Kaj kiam David finis la paroladon de tiuj vortoj al Saul, Saul diris:CXu tio estas via vocxo, mia filo David? Kaj Saul levis sian vocxon kaj ekploris.

¹⁶It came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

¹⁷Kaj li diris al David:Vi estas pli justa ol mi; cxar vi repagis al mi per bono, dum mi repagis al vi per malbono.

¹⁷He said to David, “You are more righteous than I; for you have done good to me, whereas I have done evil to you.

¹⁸Kaj hodiaux vi montris al mi, kiel vi agis bone kun mi; cxar la Eternulo transdonis min en vian manon, kaj vi ne mortigis min.

¹⁸You have declared this day how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.

¹⁹Kiam homo trovas sian malamikon, cxu li forliberigas lin en bona maniero? La Eternulo repagu al vi per bono pro tio, kion vi hodiaux faris al mi.

¹⁹For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may Yahweh reward you good for that which you have done to me this day.

²⁰Kaj jen nun mi eksciis, ke vi farigxos regxo, kaj fortikigxos en via mano la regno de Izrael.

²⁰Now, behold, I know that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

²¹JXuru do al mi per la Eternulo, ke vi ne ekstermos mian idaron post mi kaj vi ne malaperigos mian nomon el la domo de mia patro.

²¹Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh, that you will not cut off my seed after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”

²²Kaj David jxuris al Saul. Tiam Saul foriris al sia domo, kaj David kun siaj homoj iris en la rifugxejon.

²²David swore to Saul. Saul went home; but David and his men went up to the stronghold.
