¹Kiam vi iros milite kontraux vian malamikon kaj vi vidos cxevalojn kaj cxarojn kaj pli multe da homoj ol cxe vi, ne timu ilin; cxar kun vi estas la Eternulo, via Dio, kiu elkondukis vin el la lando Egipta.

¹When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

²Kaj kiam vi alproksimigxos al la batalo, tiam elpasxu la pastro kaj parolu al la popolo;

²It shall be, when you draw near to the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people,

³kaj li diru al ili:Auxdu, ho Izrael! vi iras nun en batalon kontraux viajn malamikojn; ne malfortigxu via koro, ne timu, ne konfuzigxu, kaj ne tremu antaux ili;

³and shall tell them, “Hear, Israel, you draw near this day to battle against your enemies: don’t let your heart faint; don’t be afraid, nor tremble, neither be scared of them;

⁴cxar la Eternulo, via Dio, iras kun vi, por batali pro vi kontraux viaj malamikoj kaj por helpi vin.

⁴for Yahweh your God is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”

⁵Kaj la kontrolistoj parolu al la popolo, dirante:Kiu konstruis novan domon kaj ne inauxguris gxin, tiu iru kaj revenu al sia domo, cxar eble li mortos en la batalo kaj alia homo gxin inauxguros;

⁵The officers shall speak to the people, saying, “What man is there who has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

⁶kaj kiu plantis vinbergxardenon kaj ne gxuis gxiajn fruktojn, tiu iru kaj revenu al sia domo, cxar eble li mortos en la batalo kaj alia homo gxuos gxiajn fruktojn;

⁶What man is there who has planted a vineyard, and has not used its fruit? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use its fruit.

⁷kaj kiu fiancxigxis kun virino kaj ne prenis sxin, tiu iru kaj revenu al sia domo, cxar eble li mortos en la batalo kaj alia viro sxin prenos.

⁷What man is there who has pledged to be married a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.”

⁸Kaj plue la kontrolistoj parolu al la popolo, kaj diru:Kiu estas timema kaj senkuragxa, tiu iru kaj revenu al sia domo, por ke li ne senkuragxigu la koron de siaj fratoj, kiel lia koro estas.

⁸The officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, “What man is there who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brother’s heart melt as his heart.”

⁹Kaj kiam la kontrolistoj finos paroli al la popolo, tiam oni starigu militestrojn super la popolo.

⁹It shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, that they shall appoint captains of armies at the head of the people.

¹⁰Kiam vi aliros al urbo, por batali kontraux gxi, tiam proponu al gxi pacon.

¹⁰When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it.

¹¹Kaj se gxi respondos al vi per paco kaj malfermos sin antaux vi, tiam la tuta popolo, kiu trovigxos en gxi, pagu al vi tributon kaj servu vin.

¹¹It shall be, if it makes you answer of peace, and opens to you, then it shall be, that all the people who are found therein shall become tributary to you, and shall serve you.

¹²Sed se gxi ne faros pacon kun vi, sed militos kontraux vi, tiam siegxu gxin;

¹²If it will make no peace with you, but will make war against you, then you shall besiege it:

¹³kaj kiam la Eternulo, via Dio, transdonos gxin en vian manon, tiam mortigu cxiujn gxiajn virseksulojn per glavo;

¹³and when Yahweh your God delivers it into your hand, you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword:

¹⁴nur la virinojn kaj la infanojn kaj la brutojn, kaj cxion, kio estos en la urbo, la tutan militakirajxon prenu al vi, kaj konsumu la militakirajxon de viaj malamikoj, kiujn la Eternulo, via Dio, transdonis al vi.

¹⁴but the women, and the little ones, and the livestock, and all that is in the city, even all its spoil, you shall take for a prey to yourself; and you shall eat the spoil of your enemies, which Yahweh your God has given you.

¹⁵Tiel agu kun cxiuj urboj, kiuj estas tre malproksime de vi kaj kiuj ne apartenas al la urboj de tiuj popoloj.

¹⁵Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations.

¹⁶Sed al tiuj urboj de tiuj popoloj, kiujn la Eternulo, via Dio, donas al vi kiel posedajxon, lasu la vivon al neniu animo;

¹⁶But of the cities of these peoples, that Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes;

¹⁷sed ekstermu ilin:la HXetidojn kaj la Amoridojn, la Kanaanidojn kaj la Perizidojn, la HXividojn kaj la Jebusidojn, kiel ordonis al vi la Eternulo, via Dio;

¹⁷but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as Yahweh your God has commanded you;

¹⁸por ke ili ne instruu al vi fari simile al cxiuj iliaj abomenajxoj, kiujn ili faris por siaj dioj, kaj por ke vi ne peku antaux la Eternulo, via Dio.

¹⁸that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against Yahweh your God.

¹⁹Se vi dum longa tempo siegxos urbon, por militakiri gxin kaj preni gxin, ne ruinigu gxiajn arbojn, levante kontraux ilin hakilon; cxar vi povas mangxi fruktojn de ili, tial ne forhaku ilin; cxar cxu arbo de kampo estas homo, ke gxi povus foriri de vi en la fortikajxon?

¹⁹When you shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them; for you may eat of them, and you shall not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of you?

²⁰Nur tian arbon, pri kiu vi scios, ke gxi ne estas arbo fruktodona, vi povas ruinigi kaj forhaki, por konstrui bastionojn kontraux la urbo, kiu militas kontraux vi, gxis vi gxin venkos.

²⁰Only the trees of which you know that they are not trees for food, you shall destroy and cut them down; and you shall build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it fall.
