¹Kaj kiam cxiuj regxoj de la Amoridoj, kiuj logxis transe de Jordan okcidente, kaj cxiuj regxoj de la Kanaanidoj, kiuj logxis apud la maro, auxdis, ke la Eternulo elsekigis la akvon de Jordan antaux la Izraelidoj, gxis ili transiris, tiam ektimis ilia koro, kaj ili ne havis plu kuragxon antaux la Izraelidoj.

¹It happened, when all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how that Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we had passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

²En tiu tempo la Eternulo diris al Josuo:Faru al vi sxtonajn trancxilojn, kaj cirkumcidu la Izraelidojn denove, duan fojon.

²At that time, Yahweh said to Joshua, “Make flint knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.”

³Kaj Josuo faris al si sxtonajn trancxilojn, kaj cirkumcidis la Izraelidojn sur la monteto Aralot.

³Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

⁴Kaj jen estas la kauxzo, pro kiu Josuo cirkumcidis:la tuta popolo, kiu eliris el Egiptujo, la virseksuloj, cxiuj militkapablaj, mortis en la dezerto, sur la vojo, kiam ili iris el Egiptujo;

⁴This is the reason Joshua circumcised: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

⁵cxar cirkumcidita estis la tuta popolo, kiu eliris; sed cxiuj, kiuj naskigxis en la dezerto, sur la vojo, kiam ili iris el Egiptujo, ne estis cirkumciditaj.

⁵For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness by the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.

⁶CXar dum kvardek jaroj la Izraelidoj iris en la dezerto, gxis la tuta popolo militkapabla, kiu eliris el Egiptujo, elmortis, pro tio, ke ili ne obeis la vocxon de la Eternulo; al ili la Eternulo jxuris, ke Li ne montros al ili la landon, pri kiu la Eternulo jxuris al iliaj patroj, ke Li donos al ni landon, en kiu fluas lakto kaj mielo.

⁶For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to the voice of Yahweh. Yahweh swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which Yahweh swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁷Iliajn filojn Li starigis anstataux ili. Tiujn Josuo cirkumcidis; cxar ili estis necirkumciditaj, cxar oni ne cirkumcidis ilin dum la vojo.

⁷Their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.

⁸Kaj kiam estis finita la cirkumcidado de la tuta popolo, ili restis sur sia loko en la tendaro, gxis ili resanigxis.

⁸It happened, when they were done circumcising all the nation, that they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed.

⁹Kaj la Eternulo diris al Josuo:Hodiaux Mi derulis de vi la hontindajxon de Egiptujo. Kaj tiu loko ricevis la nomon Gilgal gxis hodiaux.

⁹Yahweh said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, “Gilgal” sounds like the Hebrew for “roll.” to this day.

¹⁰Kaj la Izraelidoj staris tendare en Gilgal, kaj faris la Paskon en la dek-kvara tago de la monato vespere sur la stepo de Jerihxo.

¹⁰The children of Israel encamped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.

¹¹Kaj ili mangxis el la produktoj de la tero en la sekvanta tago post la Pasko, macojn kaj rostitajn grajnojn en la sama tago.

¹¹They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day.

¹²Kaj la manao cxesis fali en la sekvanta tago, post kiam ili mangxis el la produktoj de la tero; kaj la Izraelidoj ne plu havis manaon, sed ili mangxis la produktojn de la lando Kanaana en tiu jaro.

¹²The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn’t have manna any more; but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

¹³Kaj okazis, ke kiam Josuo estis apud Jerihxo, li levis siajn okulojn, kaj ekvidis, ke jen viro staras antaux li kaj en sia mano li tenas nudigitan glavon. Kaj Josuo aliris al li, kaj diris al li:CXu vi estas nia, aux cxu el niaj malamikoj?

¹³It happened, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him, and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”

¹⁴Kaj tiu diris:Ne, mi estas militestro de la Eternulo, mi nun venis. Tiam Josuo jxetis sin vizagxaltere kaj faris adoron, kaj diris al li:Kion mia sinjoro diros al sia sklavo?

¹⁴He said, “No; but I have come now as commander of Yahweh’s army.” Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshipped, and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”

¹⁵Kaj la militestro de la Eternulo diris al Josuo:Demetu viajn sxuojn de viaj piedoj; cxar la loko, sur kiu vi staras, estas sankta. Kaj Josuo faris tiel.

¹⁵The prince of Yahweh’s army said to Joshua, “Take your shoes off of your feet; for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.
