¹Kaj la popolo kaj iliaj edzinoj komencis forte krii kontraux siaj fratoj, la Judoj.

¹Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.

²Estis tiaj, kiuj parolis:Estas multe da ni kaj da niaj filoj kaj filinoj; ni prenu al ni grenon kaj mangxu, por ke ni vivu.

²For there were that said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”

³Aliaj parolis:Niajn kampojn, niajn vinbergxardenojn, kaj niajn domojn ni donas proprunte, por ke ni akiru grenon kontraux malsato.

³Some also there were that said, “We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”

⁴Aliaj parolis:Ni pruntas monon por impostoj por la regxo, donante garantiajxe niajn kampojn kaj vinbergxardenojn;

⁴There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.

⁵sed kiel la korpo de niaj fratoj, tia estas nia korpo, kiel iliaj infanoj, tiaj estas niaj infanoj; tamen jen ni devas humile servigi niajn filojn kaj niajn filinojn, kaj el niaj filinoj kelkaj jam estas humiligitaj. Ni ne havas forton en niaj manoj, kaj niaj kampoj kaj vinbergxardenoj apartenas al aliaj.

⁵Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. Neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards.”

⁶Kaj tio forte min cxagrenis, kiam mi auxdis ilian kriadon kaj tiujn vortojn.

⁶I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.

⁷Sed mia koro donis al mi konsilon, kaj mi faris severan riprocxon al la eminentuloj kaj al la estroj, kaj diris al ili:Vi prenas procentegon de viaj fratoj! Kaj mi kunvokis kontraux ili grandan kunvenon.

⁷Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, “You exact usury, everyone of his brother.” I held a great assembly against them.

⁸Kaj mi diris al ili:Ni elacxetis niajn fratojn, la Judojn, kiuj estis venditaj al la nacioj, kiom ni povis; dume vi volas vendi viajn fratojn, kaj ili estas vendataj al ni! Ili silentis kaj trovis nenion por respondi.

⁸I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found never a word.

⁹Kaj mi diris:Ne bona estas tio, kion vi faras. CXu vi ne devas konduti kun timo antaux nia Dio, por eviti malhonoron de la flanko de la nacioj, niaj malamikoj?

⁹Also I said, “The thing that you do is not good. Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

¹⁰Ankaux mi kaj miaj fratoj kaj miaj junuloj donis al ili prunte monon kaj grenon; ni malsxuldigu al ili tiun sxuldon.

¹⁰I likewise, my brothers and my servants, lend them money and grain. Please let us stop this usury.

¹¹Redonu do al ili hodiaux iliajn kampojn, vinbergxardenojn, olivgxardenojn, kaj domojn, kaj la procenton pro la mono, la greno, la mosto, kaj la oleo, kiujn vi pruntis al ili.

¹¹Please restore to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you are charging them.”

¹²Kaj ili diris:Ni redonos, kaj ni ne postulos de ili; ni agos tiel, kiel vi diras. Kaj mi alvokis la pastrojn, kaj mi prenis de ili jxuron, ke ili tiel agos.

¹²Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.

¹³Kaj mi elskuis mian baskon, kaj diris:Tiele Dio elskuu el lia domo kaj el lia akiritajxo cxiun homon, kiu ne plenumos tiun vorton; tiele li estu elskuita kaj senhava. Kaj la tuta komunumo diris:Amen; kaj oni gloris la Eternulon. Kaj la popolo agis tiele.

¹³Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even thus be he shaken out, and emptied.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh. The people did according to this promise.

¹⁴Krom tio, de post la tago, kiam al mi estis ordonite esti ilia regionestro en la Juda lando, de la dudeka jaro gxis la tridek-dua jaro de la regxo Artahxsxast, en la dauxro de dek du jaroj, mi kun miaj fratoj ne mangxis la panon de regionestro.

¹⁴Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.

¹⁵La antauxaj regionestroj, kiuj estis antaux mi, sxargxadis la popolon, kaj prenadis de ili panon kaj vinon, krom kvardek sikloj da argxento; ecx iliaj junuloj regis super la popolo. Sed mi ne agis tiel, pro timo antaux Dio.

¹⁵But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people: but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.

¹⁶Mi partoprenis ankaux en la laborado cxe tiu murego; kaj kampon ni ne acxetis; kaj cxiuj miaj junuloj kolektigxadis tie al la laboro.

¹⁶Yes, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered there to the work.

¹⁷CXe mia tablo estadis po cent kvindek homoj da Judoj kaj estroj, kaj ankaux da tiuj, kiuj venis al ni el la nacioj, kiuj estas cxirkaux ni.

¹⁷Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, one hundred fifty men, besides those who came to us from among the nations that were around us.

¹⁸Preparataj estis por unu tago:unu bovo, ses plej bonaj sxafoj, kaj ankaux birdoj estis preparataj cxe mi; kaj en la dauxro de dek tagoj estis uzata tre multe da vino. Malgraux tio mi ne postulis panon de regionestro, cxar la popolo estis sxargxita de malfacila laboro.

¹⁸Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this I didn’t demand the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy on this people.

¹⁹Rememoru pri mi al bono, ho mia Dio, cxion, kion mi faris por cxi tiu popolo.

¹⁹Remember to me, my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
