1Igaüks, kes usub, et Jeesus on Kristus, on Jumalast sündinud. Igaüks, kes armastab seda, kes ta on sünnitanud, armastab ka seda, kes temast on sündinud.
1Every one that believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God; and every one that loves him that has begotten loves also him that is begotten of him.
2Sellest me tunneme ära, et armastame Jumala lapsi, kui me armastame Jumalat ja teeme tema käskude järgi.
2Hereby know we that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.
3See ongi Jumala armastamine, et me peame tema käske, ja tema käsud ei ole rasked.
3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous.
4Jah, igaüks, kes on sündinud Jumalast, võidab ära maailma. Ja see ongi võit, mis on võitnud ära maailma - meie usk.
4For all that has been begotten of God gets the victory over the world; and this is the victory which has gotten the victory over the world, our faith.
5Kes on, kes võidab ära maailma? Eks see, kes usub, et Jeesus on Jumala Poeg!
5Who is he that gets the victory over the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6Tema on see, kes tuli vee ja verega - Jeesus Kristus. Ta ei tulnud üksnes veega, vaid vee ja verega, ja Vaim on selle tunnistajaks, sest Vaim on tõde.
6This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus [the] Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, for the Spirit is the truth.
7Jah, tunnistajaid on kolm:
7For they that bear witness are three:
8Vaim, vesi ja veri, ja need kolm on üks.
8the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and the three agree in one.
9Kui me võtame vastu inimeste tunnistuse, siis Jumala tunnistus on suurem, sest see on Jumala tunnistus, et ta on andnud tunnistuse oma Poja kohta.
9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God [which] he has witnessed concerning his Son.
10Kes usub Jumala Pojasse, sellel on see tunnistus olemas enese sees. Kes ei usu Jumalat, see on teinud tema valelikuks, sest ta pole uskunud tunnistust, mille Jumal on andnud oma Poja kohta.
10He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning his Son.
11Ja see tunnistus on: Jumal on andnud meile igavese elu ja see elu on tema Pojas.
11And this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son.
12Kellel on Poeg, sellel on elu; kellel ei ole Jumala Poega, sellel pole elu.
12He that has the Son has life: he that has not the Son of God has not life.
13Seda ma olen kirjutanud teile, kes te usute Jumala Poja nimesse, et te teaksite: teil on igavene elu.
13These things have I written to you that ye may know that ye have eternal life who believe on the name of the Son of God.
14Ja see ongi see julgus, mis meil on tema ees, et kui me midagi tema tahtmist mööda palume, siis tema kuuleb meid.
14And this is the boldness which we have towards him, that if we ask him anything according to his will he hears us.
15Kuna me teame, et ta meid kuuleb, mida tahes me paluksime, siis teame ka, et meil on käes need palved, mis me oleme temalt palunud.
15And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.
16Kui keegi näeb oma venda tegevat pattu, mis ei ole surmaks, siis ta palugu, ja Jumal annab talle elu, neile, kes ei tee pattu surmaks. On pattu, mis on surmaks: selle kohta ma ei ütle, et tal tuleks paluda.
16If any one see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life, for those that do not sin unto death. There is a sin to death: I do not say of that that he should make a request.

17Every unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not to death.
18Me teame, et ükski, kes on sündinud Jumalast, ei tee pattu, sest Jumalast sünnitatu hoiab ennast ja kuri ei puuduta teda.
18We know that every one begotten of God does not sin, but he that has been begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked [one] does not touch him.
19Me teame, et meie oleme Jumalast ja et terve maailm on kurja käes.
19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the wicked [one].
20Aga me teame, et Jumala Poeg on tulnud ja andnud meile mõistmise, et me tunneksime ära Tõelise. Ja meie oleme Tõelises, tema Pojas Jeesuses Kristuses. Seesama on tõeline Jumal ja igavene elu.
20And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding that we should know him that [is] true; and we are in him that [is] true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21Lapsed, hoiduge ebajumalate eest!
21Children, keep yourselves from idols.
