¹Pärast seda lahkus Paulus Ateenast ja tuli Korintosesse.

¹And after these things, having left Athens, he came to Corinth;

²Ja ta leidis juudi, Akvila nimi, Pontosest pärit, kes oli hiljuti tulnud Itaaliast koos oma naise Priskillaga, kuna keiser Klaudius oli käskinud kõigil juutidel Roomast lahkuda. Nende juurde tuli Paulus.

²and finding a certain Jew by name Aquila, of Pontus by race, just come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife, (because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome,) came to them,

³Ja et tal oli nendega sama amet, siis ta jäi nende juurde ja nad tegid koos tööd. Nad olid elukutse poolest telgitegijad.

³and because they were of the same trade abode with them, and wrought. For they were tent-makers by trade.

⁴Igal hingamispäeval Paulus arutles ja väitles sünagoogis, püüdes veenda nii juute kui ka kreeklasi.

⁴And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

⁵Kui aga Siilas ja Timoteos Makedooniast sinna tulid, pühendus Paulus täielikult sõna kuulutamisele ning tunnistas juutidele, et Jeesus on Messias.

⁵And when both Silas and Timotheus came down from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in respect of the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

⁶Aga kui need talle vastu panid ja pilkasid, raputas ta tolmu oma rõivastelt ja ütles neile: 'Teie veri tulgu teie pea peale! Mina olen puhas! Nüüdsest peale lähen ma paganate juurde.'

⁶But as they opposed and spoke injuriously, he shook his clothes, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own head: *I* [am] pure; from henceforth I will go to the nations.

⁷Ja ta lahkus nende seast ja tuli ühe jumalakartliku mehe kotta, Titius Justus nimi, kelle koda külgnes sünagoogiga.

⁷And departing thence he came to the house of a certain [man], by name Justus, who worshipped God, whose house adjoined the synagogue.

⁸Sünagoogi ülem Krispus hakkas kogu oma perega uskuma Issandat ja palju korintlasi hakkas Paulust kuulates uskuma ning nad ristiti.

⁸But Crispus the ruler of the synagogue believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptised.

⁹Aga Issand ütles öösel nägemuses Paulusele: 'Ära karda, vaid räägi, ja ära ole vait!

⁹And the Lord said by vision in [the] night to Paul, Fear not, but speak and be not silent;

¹⁰Sest mina olen sinuga ja keegi ei tule sinu kallale sulle kurja tegema, sest mul on palju rahvast siin linnas.'

¹⁰because *I* am with thee, and no one shall set upon thee to injure thee; because I have much people in this city.

¹¹Siis ta peatus seal ühe aasta ja kuus kuud, õpetades nende seas Jumala sõna.

¹¹And he remained [there] a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.

¹²Aga kui Gallio oli Ahhaia maavalitseja, tõusid juudid üksmeelselt Pauluse vastu, viisid ta kohtujärje ette

¹²But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one consent rose against Paul and led him to the judgment-seat,

¹³ja ütlesid: 'Tema meelitab inimesi Jumalat teenima Moosese Seaduse vastaselt.'

¹³saying, This [man] persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.

¹⁴Aga kui Paulus tahtis oma suu avada, lausus Gallio juutidele: 'Kui see oleks mõni ebaõiglus või kuritöö, oh juudid, siis ma peaksin muidugi teie kaebuse ära kuulama.

¹⁴But as Paul was going to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If indeed it was some wrong or wicked criminality, O Jews, of reason I should have borne with you;

¹⁵Aga kui need on vaidlusküsimused õpetuse ja nimede ja teie Seaduse pärast, siis katsuge ise toime tulla. Neis asjus ei taha mina olla kohtumõistja.'

¹⁵but if it be questions about words, and names, and the law that ye have, see to it yourselves; [for] *I* do not intend to be judge of these things.

¹⁶Ja ta ajas nad ära kohtujärje eest.

¹⁶And he drove them from the judgment-seat.

¹⁷Aga nemad kõik haarasid kinni sünagoogi ülemast Soostenesest ja peksid teda kohtujärje ees. Gallio ei hoolinud aga sellest vähimatki.

¹⁷And having all laid hold on Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, they beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio troubled himself about none of these things.

¹⁸Paulus jäi sinna veel mitmeks päevaks. Siis ta jättis vennad jumalaga ja purjetas koos Priskilla ja Akvilaga Süüriasse. Kenkreas oli ta lasknud oma juuksed maha lõigata, sest ta oli andnud tõotuse.

¹⁸And Paul, having yet stayed [there] many days, took leave of the brethren and sailed thence to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila, having shorn his head in Cenchrea, for he had a vow;

¹⁹Nad saabusid Efesosse ja ta jättis nad sinna. Ta ise läks aga sünagoogi ning arutles ja väitles juutidega.

¹⁹and he arrived at Ephesus, and left them there. But entering himself into the synagogue he reasoned with the Jews.

²⁰Aga kui nood palusid teda jääda kauemaks, siis Paulus ei olnud nõus,

²⁰And when they asked him that he would remain for a longer time [with them] he did not accede,

²¹vaid jättis nad jumalaga ja ütles: 'Ma tulen tagasi teie juurde, kui Jumal tahab.' Ja ta purjetas Efesosest ära.

²¹but bade them farewell, saying, [I must by all means keep the coming feast at Jerusalem]; I will return to you again, if God will: and he sailed away from Ephesus.

²²Kui nad maabusid Kaisareas, läks ta Jeruusalemma, tervitas kogudust ja läks edasi Antiookiasse.

²²And landing at Caesarea, and having gone up and saluted the assembly, he went down to Antioch.

²³Kui ta oli seal mõnda aega olnud, läks ta ära ja käis järjest läbi Galaatia maakonna ja Früügia, kinnitades kõiki jüngreid.

²³And having stayed [there] some time, he went forth, passing in order through the country of Galatia and Phrygia, establishing all the disciples.

²⁴Aga keegi juut, Apollos nimi, Aleksandriast pärit, vahva kõnemees ja vägev kirjaseletaja, tuli Efesosse.

²⁴But a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, who was mighty in the scriptures, arrived at Ephesus.

²⁵Teda oli õpetatud tundma Issanda teed ja vaimult keevalisena ta rääkis ja õpetas täpselt Jeesusest, aga teadis ainult Johannese ristimist.

²⁵He was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in his spirit, he spoke and taught exactly the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John.

²⁶Tema hakkas siis julgesti sünagoogis kõnelema. Kui aga Priskilla ja Akvila teda kuulsid, võtsid nad ta enda juurde ja seletasid talle Jumala tee täpsemini ära.

²⁶And *he* began to speak boldly in the synagogue. And Aquila and Priscilla, having heard him, took him to [them] and unfolded to him the way of God more exactly.

²⁷Aga kui ta tahtis minna Ahhaiasse, kirjutasid vennad teda julgustades jüngritele, et nad ta vastu võtaksid. Kui Apollos sinna jõudis, siis ta tõi palju kasu neile, kes olid hakanud uskuma armu läbi.

²⁷And when he purposed to go into Achaia, the brethren wrote to the disciples engaging them to receive him, who, being come, contributed much to those who believed through grace.

²⁸Sest ta kummutas osavalt juutide väited, näidates avalikult Pühakirjast, et Jeesus on Messias.

²⁸For he with great force convinced the Jews publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
