1Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord whom ye seek will suddenly come to his temple, and the Angel of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.
2Aga kes suudab taluda tema tuleku päeva? Ja kes jääb püsima tema ilmudes? Sest tema on nagu sulataja tuli ja nagu pesupesija leelis.
2But who shall endure the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he will be like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' lye.
3Ja ta istub, sulatab ja puhastab hõbedat, ta puhastab Leevi poegi ja selitab neid nagu kulda ja hõbedat: siis toovad nad Issandale õige ohvrianni.
3And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver; and he will purify the children of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver; and they shall offer unto Jehovah an oblation in righteousness.
4Siis meeldib Issandale Juuda ja Jeruusalemma ohvriand nagu muistseil päevil ja ammuseil aastail.
4Then shall the oblation of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto Jehovah, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5Ja ma tulen teile kohut mõistma ning olen kärmeks tunnistajaks nõidade, abielurikkujate ja valevandujate vastu ning nende vastu, kes teevad liiga palgalisele palga poolest, lesknaisele ja vaeslapsele, kes tõukavad võõra kõrvale ega karda mind, ütleb vägede Issand.
5And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the false swearers, and against those that oppress the hired servant in [his] wages, the widow and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger [from his right], and fear not me, saith Jehovah of hosts.
6Sest mina, Issand, ei ole ennast muutnud, ja teie, Jaakobi lapsed, ei ole otsa lõppenud.
6For I Jehovah change not, and ye, sons of Jacob, are not consumed.
7Oma vanemate päevist alates olete te lahkunud mu määrustest ega ole neid pidanud. Pöörduge tagasi minu juurde, siis pöördun mina teie juurde, ütleb vägede Issand. Aga teie ütlete: 'Kuidas me peaksime pöörduma?'
7Since the days of your fathers have ye departed from my statutes, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts. But ye say, Wherein shall we return?
8Kas inimene tohib Jumalat röövida? Aga teie röövite mind ja ütlete: 'Kuidas me sind röövime?' Kümnise ja tõstelõivuga.
8Will a man rob God? But ye rob me. And ye say, Wherein do we rob thee? [In] tithes and heave-offerings.
9Olge needusega neetud, et teie, kogu rahvas, mind röövite!
9Ye are cursed with a curse; and me ye rob, [even] this whole nation.
10Tooge kõik kümnis täies mõõdus varaaita, et mu kojas oleks toitu, ja proovige mind ometi sellega, ütleb vägede Issand. Tõesti, ma avan teile taevaluugid ja kallan teile õnnistust küllastuseni.
10Bring the whole tithe into the treasure-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I open not to you the windows of the heavens, and pour you out a blessing, till there be no place for it.

11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before the time in the field, saith Jehovah of hosts.
12Siis kiidavad teid õndsaks kõik rahvad, sest te saate ihaldatud maaks, ütleb vägede Issand.
12And all nations shall call you blessed; for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith Jehovah of hosts.
13Teie sõnad mu kohta on karmid, ütleb Issand. Aga teie ütlete: 'Mida me su kohta oleme rääkinud?'
13Your words have been stout against me, saith Jehovah; but ye say, What have we been speaking against thee?
14Te ütlete: 'Ilmaaegu on Jumalat teenida. Ja mis kasu on meil tema käsu täitmisest või leinariietes käimisest vägede Issanda palge ees?
14Ye say, It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we keep his charge, and that we walk mournfully before Jehovah of hosts?
15Nüüd me aga kiidame õndsaks ülbeid. Elavad edasi needki, kes pattu teevad, need koguni kiusavad Jumalat ja pääsevad.'
15And now we hold the proud for happy; yea, they that work wickedness are built up; yea, they tempt God, and they escape.
16Siis rääkisid isekeskis need, kes kartsid Issandat; ja Issand pani tähele ning kuulis ja tema palge ees kirjutati mälestusraamat nende heaks, kes kardavad Issandat ja austavad tema nime.
16Then they that feared Jehovah spoke often one to another; and Jehovah observed [it], and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared Jehovah, and that thought upon his name.
17Ja nad kuuluvad mulle, ütleb vägede Issand, on mu eraomand sel päeval, mille ma valmistan. Ja ma olen neile armuline, nõnda nagu mees on armuline oma pojale, kes teda teenib.
17And they shall be unto me a peculiar treasure, saith Jehovah of hosts, in the day that I prepare; and I will spare them as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
18Ja te näete jälle vahet õige ja õela vahel, selle vahel, kes teenib Jumalat, ja selle vahel, kes teda ei teeni.
18And ye shall return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
19Sest vaata, päev tuleb, põlev nagu ahi, ja kõik ülbed ja kõik, kes pattu teevad, on nagu kõrred. Ja see päev, mis tuleb, põletab nad ära, ütleb vägede Issand, ega jäta neile ei juurt ega oksa.
20Aga teile, kes te mu nime kardate, tõuseb õiguse päike ja paranemine tema tiibade all. Te lähete siis välja ja lööte kepsu nagu nuumvasikad.

22Tuletage meelde mu sulase Moosese Seadust, määrusi ja käske, mis ma temale andsin Hoorebil kogu Iisraeli jaoks!
23Vaata, ma läkitan teile prohvet Eelija, enne kui tuleb Issanda päev, suur ja kardetav.
24Ja tema pöörab vanemate südamed jälle laste poole ja laste südamed vanemate poole, et ma ei peaks tulema ja lööma maad needusega.'
