¹Neil päevil, kui taas oli koos suur rahvahulk ja neil ei olnud midagi süüa, kutsus Jeesus jüngrid enese juurde ja ütles neile:

¹In those days, there being again a great crowd, and they having nothing that they could eat, having called his disciples to [him], he says to them,

²'Mul on rahvast hale, sest nad on juba kolm päeva minu juures viibinud ja neil ei ole midagi süüa.

²I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat,

³Ja kui ma lasen nad koju söömata, siis nad nõrkevad teel, sest mõned neist on tulnud kaugelt.'

³and if I should dismiss them to their home fasting, they will faint on the way; for some of them are come from far.

⁴Ja ta jüngrid vastasid talle: 'Kuidas võib keegi siin kõrbes nende kõhud täis sööta?'

⁴And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to satisfy these with bread here in a desert place?

⁵Ja ta küsis neilt: 'Mitu leiba teil on?' Nemad ütlesid: 'Seitse.'

⁵And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

⁶Ja Jeesus käskis rahvahulgal maha istuda ning võttis need seitse leiba, tänas, murdis ja andis oma jüngrite kätte, et nad jagaksid need, ja nad viisid leiva rahvale.

⁶And he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, he gave thanks, and broke [them] and gave [them] to his disciples, that they might set [them] before [them]; and they set [them] before the crowd.

⁷Ja neil olid mõned kalakesed, ja tema, õnnistades neid, käskis ka need viia rahvale.

⁷And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed them, he desired these also to be set before [them].

⁸Ja nad sõid ja said kõhud täis. Ja ülejäänud palakesi korjati seitse korvitäit.

⁸And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up of fragments that remained seven baskets.

⁹Inimesi oli aga umbes neli tuhat. Ja Jeesus laskis neil minna.

⁹And they [that had eaten] were about four thousand; and he sent them away.

¹⁰Ja Jeesus astus kohe koos oma jüngritega paati ja läks Dalmanuuta aladele.

¹⁰And immediately going on board ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

¹¹Ja variserid tulid välja ja hakkasid kiusates teda küsitlema, nõudes temalt tunnustähte taevast.

¹¹And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute against him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

¹²Ja Jeesus ohkas sügavasti oma vaimus ja ütles: 'Miks see sugupõlv nõuab tunnustähte? Tõesti, ma ütlen teile, sellele sugupõlvele ei anta tunnustähte!'

¹²And groaning in his spirit, he says, Why does this generation seek a sign? Verily I say unto you, A sign shall in no wise be given to this generation.

¹³Ja jättes nad sinnapaika, astus Jeesus taas paati ning siirdus vastaskaldale.

¹³And he left them, and going again on board ship, went away to the other side.

¹⁴Nad olid unustanud kaasa võtta leiba, neil polnud paadis kaasas midagi peale ühe leiva.

¹⁴And they forgot to take bread, and save one loaf, they had not [any] with them in the ship.

¹⁵Ja Jeesus kinnitas neile: 'Vaadake ette, hoiduge variseride haputaignast ja Heroodese haputaignast!'

¹⁵And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and [of] the leaven of Herod.

¹⁶Ja nemad arutasid omavahel: 'See ongi see, et meil ei ole leiba!'

¹⁶And they reasoned with one another, [saying], It is because we have no bread.

¹⁷Seda märgates ütles Jeesus neile: 'Mis te arutate, et teil ei ole leiba? Kas te ikka veel ei mõista ega saa aru? Kas teie süda on ikka veel kõva?

¹⁷And Jesus knowing [it], says to them, Why reason ye because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive nor understand? Have ye your heart [yet] hardened?

¹⁸Silmad teil on, aga te ei näe, ja kõrvad teil on, aga te ei kuule. Ja kas teil ei ole meeles,

¹⁸Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

¹⁹kui ma viis leiba murdsin viiele tuhandele, mitu korvitäit palakesi te korjasite?' Nad ütlesid talle: 'Kaksteist.'

¹⁹When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say to him, Twelve.

²⁰'Kui seitse leiba oli neljale tuhandele, mitu korvitäit palakesi te siis korjasite?' Ja nad ütlesid: 'Seitse.'

²⁰And when the seven for the four thousand, the filling of how many baskets of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

²¹Ja Jeesus ütles neile: 'Kas te ikka veel ei saa aru?'

²¹And he said to them, How do ye not yet understand?

²²Ja nad tulid Betsaidasse ja Jeesuse juurde toodi pime ja paluti, et Jeesus teda puudutaks.

²²And he comes to Bethsaida; and they bring him a blind man, and beseech him that he might touch him.

²³Ja Jeesus haaras kinni pimeda käest, viis ta külast välja ja sülitas ta silmadesse, pani käed ta peale ja küsis temalt: 'Kas sa näed midagi?'

²³And taking hold of the hand of the blind man he led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, he laid his hands upon him, and asked him if he beheld anything.

²⁴Pime vaatas üles ja ütles: 'Ma näen inimesi, sest ma märkan neid nagu puid kõndimas.'

²⁴And having looked up, he said, I behold men, for I see [them], as trees, walking.

²⁵Seejärel pani Jeesus uuesti käed ta silmadele ja ta sai täiesti terveks ja nägi kõike selgesti.

²⁵Then he laid his hands again upon his eyes, and he saw distinctly, and was restored and saw all things clearly.

²⁶Ja Jeesus saatis ta koju, öeldes: 'Ära mine külasse!'

²⁶And he sent him to his house, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell [it] to any one in the village.

²⁷Ja Jeesus ja ta jüngrid läksid edasi Filippuse Kaisarea küladesse. Ja teel küsis ta oma jüngritelt: 'Kelle ütlevad inimesed minu olevat?'

²⁷And Jesus went forth and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea-Philippi. And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am?

²⁸Aga nemad ütlesid talle: 'Ristija Johannese, ja teised Eelija, teised aga ühe prohveteist.'

²⁸And they answered him, saying, John the baptist; and others, Elias; but others, One of the prophets.

²⁹Ja tema küsis neilt: 'Aga teie, kelle teie ütlete minu olevat?' Peetrus kostis: 'Sina oled Messias!'

²⁹And he asked them, But *ye*, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering says to him, *Thou* art the Christ.

³⁰Ja ta hoiatas neid, et nad midagi tema kohta ei räägiks.

³⁰And he charged them straitly, in order that they should tell no man about him.

³¹Ja Jeesus hakkas neid õpetama, et Inimese Poeg peab palju kannatama ning hüljatama vanemate ja ülempreestrite ja kirjatundjate poolt ja tapetama ning kolme päeva pärast üles tõusma.

³¹And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and of the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise [again].

³²Ja ta rääkis seda üsna avalikult. Ja Peetrus viis ta kõrvale ning hakkas teda noomima.

³²And he spoke the thing openly. And Peter, taking him to [him], began to rebuke him.

³³Aga Jeesus pöördus, vaatas jüngritele ja sõitles Peetrust: 'Tagane, vastupanija, sest sa ei mõtle Jumala, vaid inimese viisil!'

³³But he, turning round and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get away behind me, Satan, for thy mind is not on the things that are of God, but on the things that are of men.

³⁴Ja Jeesus kutsus rahvahulga koos oma jüngritega enese juurde ja ütles neile: 'Kui keegi tahab käia minu järel, siis ta salaku oma mina ja võtku oma rist ja järgnegu mulle,

³⁴And having called the crowd with his disciples, he said to them, Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.

³⁵sest kes iganes tahab päästa oma elu, kaotab selle, aga kes iganes kaotab oma elu minu ja evangeeliumi pärast, päästab selle.

³⁵For whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's shall save it.

³⁶Sest mis kasu on inimesel sellest, kui ta võidaks terve maailma, aga teeks kahju oma hingele?

³⁶For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul?

³⁷Sest mis oleks inimesel anda oma hinge lunahinnaks?

³⁷for what should a man give in exchange for his soul?

³⁸Jah, kes iganes häbeneb mind ja minu sõnu selle abielurikkuja ja patuse sugupõlve ees, seda häbeneb ka Inimese Poeg, kui ta tuleb oma Isa kirkuses koos pühade inglitega.'

³⁸For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him shall the Son of man also be ashamed when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
