⁴Da versammelten sich alle Ältesten Israels und kamen zu Samuel gen Rama

⁵und sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, du bist alt geworden, und deine Söhne wandeln nicht in deinen Wegen; so setze nun einen König über uns, der uns richte, nach der Weise aller andern Völker!

⁶Dieses Wort aber mißfiel Samuel, da sie sagten: Gib uns einen König, der uns richte! Und Samuel betete darüber zu dem HERRN.

⁷Da sprach der HERR zu Samuel: Gehorche der Stimme des Volkes in allem, was sie dir gesagt haben; denn sie haben nicht dich, sondern mich verworfen, daß ich nicht König über sie sein soll.

⁸Sie tun auch mit dir, wie sie es immer getan haben, von dem Tage an, als ich sie aus Ägypten führte, bis auf diesen Tag, indem sie mich verlassen und andern Göttern gedient haben.

⁹So gehorche nun ihrer Stimme; doch verwarne sie ausdrücklich und verkündige ihnen das Recht des Königs, der über sie herrschen wird.

¹⁰Und Samuel sagte dem Volke, das einen König begehrte, alle Worte des HERRN

¹¹und sprach: Das wird das Recht des Königs sein, der über euch herrschen wird: Eure Söhne wird er nehmen und sie seinen Kriegswagen und seiner Reiterei zuteilen und daß sie vor seinem Wagen her laufen;

¹¹Ka mea, Ko te tikanga tenei a te kingi e whakakingitia mo koutou: Ko a koutou tama ka tangohia e ia, ka meinga mana, mo ana hariata, hei tangata eke hoiho hoki mana, hei rere ano ki mua i ana hariata;

¹²und daß er sie mache zu Obersten über Tausend und zu Obersten über Fünfzig; und daß sie seinen Acker pflügen und seine Ernte einbringen und daß sie ihm seine Kriegswaffen und sein Pferdegeschirr anfertigen.

¹³Eure Töchter aber wird er nehmen und sie zu Salbenmischerinnen, Köchinnen und Bäckerinnen machen.

¹⁴Auch eure besten Äcker, eure Weinberge und eure Ölbäume wird er nehmen und seinen Knechten geben;

¹⁴Me a koutou mara, a koutou kari waina, a koutou kari oriwa, ka tangohia e ia nga mea papai, a ka hoatu ki ana pononga.

¹⁵dazu wird er den Zehnten von eurer Saat und von euren Weinbergen nehmen und ihn seinen Kämmerern und Knechten geben.

¹⁵Ka tangohia hoki e ia te whakatekau o a koutou purapura, o a koutou kari waina, a ka hoatu ki ana unaka, ki ana pononga.

¹⁶Und er wird eure Knechte und eure Mägde und eure schönsten Jünglinge und eure Esel nehmen und sein Geschäft damit ausrichten.

¹⁶Ka tangohia ano e ia a koutou pononga tane, a koutou pononga wahine, a koutou taitamariki papai, me a koutou kaihe, a ka whakamahia ki tana mahi.

¹⁷Er wird den Zehnten eurer Schafe nehmen, und ihr müsset seine Knechte sein.

¹⁷Ka tangohia ano e ia nga whakatekau o a koutou hipi: ka waiho ano hoki koutou hei pononga mana.

¹⁸Wenn ihr dann zu jener Zeit über euren König, den ihr euch erwählt habt, schreien werdet, so wird euch der HERR alsdann nicht erhören.

¹⁸A ka tangi koutou i taua ra i ta koutou kingi i whiriwhiri ai mo koutou; e kore ano a Ihowa e rongo ki a koutou i taua ra.

¹⁹Aber das Volk weigerte sich, die Stimme Samuels zu hören, und sprach: Das tut nichts, es soll dennoch ein König über uns sein,

¹⁹Otira kihai te iwi i pai kia whakarongo ki te reo o Hamuera. Na ka mea ratou, Kahore; engari me whai kingi matou;

²⁰daß auch wir seien wie alle Nationen; unser König soll uns richten und vor uns herziehen und unsre Kriege führen!

²⁰Kia rite ai hoki matou ki nga iwi katoa; a ka whakarite to matou kingi mo matou, ka haere atu hoki i to matou aroaro, hei whawhai i a matou whawhai.

²¹Da nun Samuel alle Worte des Volkes gehört hatte, redete er sie vor den Ohren des HERRN.

²²Der HERR aber sprach: Gehorche ihrer Stimme und mache ihnen einen König! Und Samuel sprach zu den Männern von Israel: Geht hin, ein jeder in seine Stadt!
