¹Dies sind die Worte, die Mose zu ganz Israel redete diesseits des Jordan in der Wüste, auf der Ebene gegenüber von Suph, zwischen Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazerot und Disahab:

⁷Wendet euch nun und ziehet weiter, daß ihr zu dem Gebirge der Amoriter kommet und zu allen ihren Nachbarn in der Ebene, auf den Bergen und in den Tälern, gegen Mittag und gegen das Gestade des Meeres, in das Land der Kanaaniter und zum Berge Libanon, bis an den großen Fluß, den Fluß Euphrat!

⁸Siehe, ich habe euch das Land, das vor euch liegt, gegeben; geht hinein und nehmt das Land ein, von dem der HERR euren Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen hat, daß er es ihnen und ihrem Samen nach ihnen geben wolle.

¹²Wie kann ich aber allein eure Beschwerden, eure Klagen und eure Streitigkeiten tragen?

¹³Schaffet euch weise, verständige und erfahrene Männer von euren Stämmen her, so will ich sie an eure Spitze stellen!

¹⁴Da antwortetet ihr mir und sprachet: Das ist ein gutes Ding, davon du sagst, daß du es tun wollest!

¹⁵Da nahm ich Häupter eurer Stämme, weise und erfahrene Männer, und setzte sie zu Oberhäuptern über euch, zu Obersten über tausend, über hundert, über fünfzig, über zehn, und zu Amtleuten für eure Stämme.

¹⁶Und ich gebot euren Richtern zu derselben Zeit und sprach: Verhöret eure Brüder und richtet recht zwischen den Brüdern und Fremdlingen;

¹⁸So gebot ich euch zu jener Zeit alles, was ihr tun solltet.

¹⁹Da zogen wir aus von Horeb und wanderten durch die große und schreckliche Wüste, die ihr auf dem Wege nach dem Hügelland der Amoriter gesehen habt, wie uns der HERR, unser Gott, geboten hatte, und kamen bis Kadesch-Barnea.

²¹Siehe, der HERR, dein Gott, hat dir das Land, das vor dir liegt, gegeben; ziehe hinauf und nimm es ein, wie der HERR, deiner Väter Gott, dir versprochen hat; fürchte dich nicht und erschrick nicht!

²²Da kamet ihr alle herbei zu mir und sprachet: Laßt uns Männer vor uns hersenden, die uns das Land erkundigen und uns Bericht bringen über den Weg, den wir ziehen, und die Städte, darein wir kommen sollen.

²³Das gefiel mir wohl, und ich nahm von euch zwölf Männer, aus jedem Stamme einen.

²⁴Die wandten sich und bestiegen das Gebirge und kamen bis in das Tal Eskol und kundschafteten es aus

²⁷und ihr murrtet in euren Hütten und spracht: Der HERR hat uns aus Haß aus Ägypten geführt, daß er uns in die Hände der Amoriter gebe, uns zu vertilgen.

²⁸Wohin sollen wir ziehen? Unsere Brüder haben unser Herz verzagt gemacht, indem sie sagten: Das Volk ist größer und höher gewachsen als wir, die Städte sind groß und bis an den Himmel befestigt; dazu haben wir Enakskinder daselbst gesehen!

²⁸Kia haere tatou ki runga ki hea? kua ngohe nei hoki o tatou ngakau i ta o tatou tuakana, e mea ra, He nunui te iwi, he roroa i a tatou; ko nga pa he nui, taiepa rawa a tutuki noa ki te rangi: i kite ano hoki matou i nga tama a nga Anakimi ki rei ra.

²⁹Ich aber sprach zu euch: Entsetzet euch nicht und fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen;

²⁹Na ka mea ahau ki a koutou, Kei pawera, kei wehi i a ratou.

³⁰denn der HERR, euer Gott, zieht vor euch her und wird für euch streiten, wie er mit euch vor euren Augen in Ägypten getan hat

³⁰Ko Ihowa, ko to koutou Atua, te haere nei i mua i a koutou, mana ta koutou pakanga; ka rite ki nga mea katoa i mea ai ia mo koutou ki to koutou aroaro i Ihipa;

³¹und in der Wüste, wo du gesehen hast, wie dich der HERR, dein Gott, getragen hat, wie ein Mann seinen Sohn trägt, auf allen Wegen, die ihr zurückgelegt habt, bis ihr an diesen Ort gekommen seid.

³¹I te koraha ano, i kite ra koe i reira i ta Ihowa, i ta tou Atua wahanga i a koe, ano he tangata e waha ana i tana tamaiti, i te ara katoa i haere na koutou, a tae noa mai ki tenei wahi.

³²Aber in dieser Sache wolltet ihr dem HERRN, eurem Gott, nicht vertrauen,

³²I tenei mea ano, kihai koutou i whakapono ki a Ihowa, ki to koutou Atua,

³³der doch vor euch herging auf dem Wege, euch die Lagerstätten auszusuchen, bei Nacht im Feuer, daß er euch den Weg zeigte, darauf ihr gehen solltet, bei Tag in einer Wolke.

³³I haere ra i mua i a koutou i te ara, hei whakataki i tetahi wahi mo koutou, e tu ai o koutou teneti, i te po i roto i te ahi, hei whakaatu ki a koutou i te ara e haere ai koutou, a i roto i te kapua i te awatea.

³⁴Als aber der HERR die Stimme eurer Worte hörte, ward er zornig und schwur und sprach:

³⁵Keiner von den Männern dieses bösen Geschlechts soll das gute Land sehen, das ich ihren Vätern zu geben geschworen habe!

³⁶Nur Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, soll es sehen; und ich will ihm und seinen Kindern das Land geben, das er betreten hat, weil er dem HERRN völlig nachgefolgt ist.

³⁶Heoi ano ko Karepe, ko te tama a Iepune, e kite ia; a ka hoatu e ahau ki a ia, ki ana tama hoki, te whenua i haerea e ia, mona i tino whai a Ihowa.

³⁷Auch über mich ward der HERR zornig um euretwillen und sprach: Du sollst auch nicht hineinkommen!

³⁷A i riri ano a Ihowa ki ahau, mo koutou hoki, i mea mai, E kore ano kore e tae ki reira.

³⁸Aber Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der vor dir steht, der soll hineinkommen; denselben stärke, denn er soll Israel dieses Land zum Erbe austeilen.

³⁸Ko Hohua, ko te tama a Nunu, e tu ana i tou aroaro, e tae ia ki reira: whakatenatenangia ia; ta te mea mana a Iharaira e whakawhiwhi ki tera wahi.

³⁹Und eure Kinder, von denen ihr sagtet, daß sie zum Raub werden müßten, und eure Söhne, die heute noch nicht wissen, was gut und böse ist, die sollen hineinkommen; denselben will ich es geben, und sie sollen es einnehmen.

⁴⁰Ihr aber, wendet euch und ziehet in die Wüste auf dem Weg zum Schilfmeer!

⁴⁰Ko koutou ia, tahuri atu, haere ki te koraha, na te huarahi ki te Moana Whero.

⁴¹Da antwortetet ihr und sprachet zu mir: Wir haben wider den HERRN gesündigt, wir wollen hinaufziehen und streiten, ganz wie uns der HERR, unser Gott, geboten hat! Und ihr alle gürtetet eure Kriegswaffen um und hieltet es für leicht, auf den Berg zu steigen.

⁴²Aber der HERR sprach zu mir: Sag ihnen: Ihr sollt nicht hinaufziehen und nicht streiten; denn ich bin nicht unter euch; daß ihr nicht vor euren Feinden geschlagen werdet!

⁴²Katahi ka mea a Ihowa ki ahau, Mea atu ki a ratou, Kaua e haere, kaua ano e tu ki te riri; kahore hoki ahau i roto i a koutou; kei patua ki te aroaro o o koutou hoariri.

⁴³Das sagte ich euch; aber ihr gehorchtet nicht, sondern lehntet euch auf gegen das Gebot des HERRN und waret vermessen und zoget auf das Gebirge hinauf.

⁴³Na ka korero ahau ki a koutou; a kihai koutou i rongo, heoi, ka tutu koutou ki te kupu a Ihowa, na hikaka ana koutou, piki ana ki te maunga.

⁴⁴Da rückten die Amoriter aus, die auf demselben Gebirge wohnten, euch entgegen, und jagten euch, wie die Bienen tun, und schlugen euch zu Seir bis gen Horma.

⁴⁴Na ka puta nga Amori, e noho ana i taua maunga, ki te tu i a koutou, a whai ana i a koutou, ano he pi, patua iho koutou i Heira, a taea noatia a Horema.

⁴⁵Da kehrtet ihr wieder um und weintet vor dem HERRN; aber der HERR wollte eure Stimme nicht hören und neigte seine Ohren nicht zu euch.

⁴⁵Na ka hoki koutou, ka tangi ki te aroaro o Ihowa; otiia kihai a Ihowa i whakarongo ki to koutou reo, kihai ano i anga tona taringa ki a koutou.

⁴⁶Also bliebet ihr in Kadesch eine lange Zeit, so lange, wie ihr dort bleiben mußtet!

⁴⁶Na ka noho koutou ki Karehe, a maha noa nga ra, nga ra hoki i noho ai koutou.
