¹[] Εν δε ταις ημεραις ταυταις, οτε επληθυνοντο οι μαθηται, εγεινε γογγυσμος των Ελληνιστων κατα των Εβραιων, οτι αι χηραι αυτων παρεβλεποντο εν τη καθημερινη διακονια.

¹Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists The Hellenists used Greek language and culture, even though they were also of Hebrew descent. against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.

²Τοτε οι δωδεκα, προσκαλεσαντες το πληθος των μαθητων, ειπον· Δεν ειναι πρεπον να αφησωμεν ημεις τον λογον του Θεου και να διακονωμεν εις τραπεζας.

²The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.

³Σκεφθητε λοιπον, αδελφοι, να εκλεξητε εξ υμων επτα ανδρας μαρτυρουμενους, πληρεις Πνευματος Αγιου και σοφιας, τους οποιους ας καταστησωμεν επι της χρειας ταυτης·

³Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

⁴ημεις δε θελομεν εμμενει εν τη προσευχη και τη διακονια του λογου.

⁴But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”

⁵Και ηρεσεν ο λογος ενωπιον παντος του πληθους· και εξελεξαν τον Στεφανον, ανδρα πληρη πιστεως και Πνευματος Αγιου, και Φιλιππον και Προχορον και Νικανορα και Τιμωνα και Παρμεναν και Νικολαον, προσηλυτον Αντιοχεα,

⁵These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;

⁶τους οποιους εστησαν ενωπιον των αποστολων και προσευχηθεντες επεθεσαν επ' αυτους τας χειρας.

⁶whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

⁷Και ο λογος του Θεου ηυξανε, και επληθυνετο ο αριθμος των μαθητων εν Ιερουσαλημ σφοδρα, και πολυ πληθος των ιερεων υπηκουον εις την πιστιν.

⁷The word of God increased and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

⁸[] Ο δε Στεφανος, πληρης πιστεως και δυναμεως, εκαμνε τερατα και σημεια μεγαλα εν τω λαω.

⁸Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.

⁹Και εσηκωθησαν τινες των εκ της συναγωγης της λεγομενης Λιβερτινων και Κυρηναιων και Αλεξανδρεων και των απο Κιλικιας και Ασιας, φιλονεικουντες με τον Στεφανον,

⁹But some of those who were of the synagogue called “The Libertines,” and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.

¹⁰και δεν ηδυναντο να αντισταθωσιν εις την σοφιαν και εις το πνευμα, με το οποιον ελαλει.

¹⁰They weren’t able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

¹¹Τοτε εβαλον κρυφιως ανθρωπους, λεγοντας οτι ηκουσαμεν αυτον λαλουντα λογια βλασφημα κατα του Μωυσεως και του Θεου.

¹¹Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

¹²και διηγειραν τον λαον και τους πρεσβυτερους και τους γραμματεις, και επελθοντες ηρπασαν αυτον και εφεραν εις το συνεδριον,

¹²They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,

¹³και εστησαν μαρτυρας ψευδεις, λεγοντας· Ο ανθρωπος ουτος δεν παυει λαλων λογια βλασφημα κατα του αγιου τουτου τοπου και του νομου·

¹³and set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.

¹⁴διοτι ηκουσαμεν αυτον λεγοντα, οτι Ιησους ο Ναζωραιος ουτος θελει καταλυσει τον τοπον τουτον και αλλαξει τα εθιμα, τα οποια παρεδωκεν εις ημας ο Μωυσης.

¹⁴For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”

¹⁵Και ατενισαντες εις αυτον παντες οι καθημενοι εν τω συνεδριω, ειδον το προσωπον αυτου ως προσωπον αγγελου.

¹⁵All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.
