¹[] Ελθετε τωρα οι πλουσιοι, κλαυσατε ολολυζοντες δια τας επερχομενας ταλαιπωριας σας.

¹Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.

²Ο πλουτος σας εσαπη και τα ιματια σας εγειναν σκωληκοβρωτα,

²Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten.

³ο χρυσος σας και ο αργυρος εσκωριασε, και η σκωρια αυτων θελει εισθαι εις μαρτυριαν εναντιον σας και θελει φαγει τας σαρκας σας ως πυρ. Εθησαυρισατε δια τας εσχατας ημερας.

³Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you, and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.

⁴Ιδου, ο μισθος των εργατων των θερισαντων τα χωραφια σας, τον οποιον εστερηθησαν απο σας, κραζει, και αι κραυγαι των θερισαντων εισηλθον εις τα ωτα Κυριου Σαβαωθ.

⁴Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies Greek: Sabaoth (for Hebrew: Tze’va’ot) .

⁵Ετρυφησατε επι της γης και εσπαταλησατε, εθρεψατε τας καρδιας σας ως εν ημερα σφαγης.

⁵You have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

⁶Κατεδικασατε, εφονευσατε τον δικαιον· δεν σας αντιστεκεται.

⁶You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous one. He doesn’t resist you.

⁷Μακροθυμησατε λοιπον, αδελφοι, εως της παρουσιας του Κυριου. Ιδου, ο γεωργος περιμενει τον πολυτιμον καρπον της γης και μακροθυμει δι' αυτον, εωσου λαβη βροχην πρωιμον και οψιμον·

⁷Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain.

⁸μακροθυμησατε και σεις, στηριξατε τας καρδιας σας, διοτι η παρουσια του Κυριου επλησιασε.

⁸You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

⁹Μη στεναζετε κατ' αλληλων, αδελφοι, δια να μη κατακριθητε· ιδου, ο κριτης ισταται εμπροσθεν των θυρων.

⁹Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door.

¹⁰Λαβετε, αδελφοι μου, παραδειγμα της κακοπαθειας και της μακροθυμιας τους προφητας, οιτινες ελαλησαν εν τω ονοματι του Κυριου.

¹⁰Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

¹¹Ιδου, μακαριζομεν τους υπομενοντας· ηκουσατε την υπομονην του Ιωβ και ειδετε το τελος του Κυριου, οτι ειναι πολυευσπλαγχνος ο Κυριος και οικτιρμων.

¹¹Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

¹²[] Προ παντων δε, αδελφοι μου, μη ομνυετε μητε τον ουρανον μητε την γην μητε αλλον τινα ορκον· αλλ' εστω υμων το ναι ναι, και το ου, δια να μη πεσητε υπο κρισιν.

¹²But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes,” and your “no,” “no”; so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy. TR reads “under judgment” instead of “into hypocrisy”

¹³Κακοπαθει τις μεταξυ σας; ας προσευχηται· ευθυμει τις; ας ψαλλη.

¹³Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises.

¹⁴Ασθενει τις μεταξυ σας; ας προσκαλεση τους πρεσβυτερους της εκκλησιας, και ας προσευχηθωσιν επ' αυτον, αλειψαντες αυτον με ελαιον εν τω ονοματι του Κυριου.

¹⁴Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord,

¹⁵Και η μετα πιστεως ευχη θελει σωσει τον πασχοντα, και ο Κυριος θελει εγειρει αυτον· και αμαρτιας αν επραξε, θελουσι συγχωρηθη εις αυτον.

¹⁵and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

¹⁶Εξομολογεισθε εις αλληλους τα πταισματα σας και ευχεσθε υπερ αλληλων, δια να ιατρευθητε· πολυ ισχυει η δεησις του δικαιου ενθερμως γενομενη.

¹⁶Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.

¹⁷Ο Ηλιας ητο ανθρωπος ομοιοπαθης με ημας και προσηυχηθη ενθερμως να μη βρεξη, και δεν εβρεξεν επι της γης ετη τρια και μηνας εξ·

¹⁷Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.

¹⁸και παλιν προσηυχηθη, και ο ουρανος εδωκε βροχην και η γη εβλαστησε τον καρπον αυτης.

¹⁸He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit.

¹⁹Αδελφοι, εαν τις μεταξυ σας αποπλανηθη απο της αληθειας, και επιστρεψη τις αυτον,

¹⁹Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

²⁰ας εξευρη οτι ο επιστρεψας αμαρτωλον απο της πλανης της οδου αυτου θελει σωσει ψυχην εκ θανατου και θελει καλυψει και πληθος αμαρτιων.

²⁰let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.
