¹પવિત્ર આત્મા સ્પષ્ટ રીતે કહે છે કે પાછલા સમયમાં કેટલાએક લોકો સાચા વિશ્વાસમાંથી દૂર જશે. તે લોકો ખોટું બોલનારા આત્માઓની આજ્ઞાનું પાલન કરશે. વળી તે લોકો ભૂતોના ઉપદેશને અનુસરશે.

¹But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,

²જે લોકો જૂઠું બોલીને લોકોને છેતરતા હોય તેઓના દ્વારા ખોટો ઉપદેશ પ્રચાર પામે છે. તે લોકો સારા નરસાનો ભેદભાવ પારખી શકતા નથી. ગરમ લોખંડ વડે એમની સમજ શક્તિને ડામ દઈને બાળી નાખી હોય એવી આ વાત છે.

²through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;

³એવા માણસો લોકોને કહેતા ફરે છે કે તેઓ લગ્ર કરી શકે નહિ. અને તેઓ લોકોને કહે છે કે અમુક અમુક જાતનો ખોરાક ખાવો ન જોઈએ. પરંતુ તે ખોરાક પણ દેવે જ બનાવ્યો છે. અને દેવને માનનારા તથા સત્યને જાણનારા લોકો આભારસ્તુતિ કરીને એ ખોરાક ખાઈ શકે છે.

³forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

⁴દેવે સર્જલી દરેક વસ્તુ સારી છે. દેવની આભારસ્તુતિ કરીને સ્વીકારેલી કોઈ પણ વસ્તુનો ઈન્કાર કે અનાદર કરવો ન જોઈએ.

⁴For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.

⁵દેવે જે કહ્યુ હોય તે કારણે પ્રાર્થના વડે દેવે બનાવેલી દરેક વસ્તુ પવિત્ર બનાવાય છે.

⁵For it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.

⁶આ બધી વાતો તું તારા ભાઈઓ તથા બહેનોને કહેજે. જો તું આ કરીશ તો સાબિત થશે કે ખ્રિસ્ત ઈસુનો તું એક સારો સેવક છે. વિશ્વાસથી શબ્દો દ્વારા તથા સારા ઉપદેશના તારા અનુસરણને લીધે તું મક્કમ અને દૃઢ બન્યો છે તે તું બતાવી શકીશ.

⁶If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

⁷દેવના સત્યની સાથે સુસંગત ન હોય એવી મૂર્ખાઈભરી વાતો લોકોને કહેતા ફરે છે. એવી વાતોનું શિક્ષણ તું ગ્રહણ કરતો નહિ. પરંતુ દેવની સાચી રીતે સેવા કરવા તારી જાતને તાલીમ આપ.

⁷But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.

⁸શરીરને તાલીમ આપવાના કેટલાએક ફાયદા છે. પરંતુ દેવની સેવાથી તો દરેક વાતે ફાયદો જ છે. દેવની સેવાથી આ જીવનમાં તેમજ ભવિષ્યના જીવનમાં પણ એના આશીર્વાદ પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે.

⁸For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.

⁹હુ જે કહું છું તે સાચું છે. અને તારે સંપૂર્ણ રીતે એનો સ્વીકાર કરવો જોઈએ.

⁹This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.

¹⁰એ કારણે જ આપણે સખત મહેનત તથા પરિશ્રમ કરી રહ્યા છીએ. આપણે જીવતા દેવમાં આશા રાખીએ છીએ. સર્વ લોકોનો તે તારનાર છે. વિશેષ કરીને જેઓ તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ કરે છે તે સર્વ લોકોનાં તારનાર છે.

¹⁰For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

¹¹આ બધી બાબતોની તું આજ્ઞા આપજે તથા શીખવજે.

¹¹Command and teach these things.

¹²તને જુવાન જાણીને તારું કઈ મહત્વ ન હોય એ રીતે કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિને તારી સાથે વર્તવા ન દઈશ. વિશ્વાસીઓએ કેવી રીતે જીવવું જોઈએ તે બતાવવા તારી વાણી વડે, તારા વિશ્વાસ વડે, અને તારા સ્વચ્છ જીવન વડે જીવવાને લીધે તું લોકોને નમૂનારુંપ થજે.

¹²Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.

¹³લોકોની આગળ પવિત્રશાસ્ત્ર વાચવાનું તું ચાલુ રાખ, તેઓને વિશ્વાસમાં દૃઢ કર, અને તેઓને ઉપદેશ આપ. હુ ત્યાં આવી પહોંચું ત્યા સુધી તું એ કાર્યો કરતો રહેજે.

¹³Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.

¹⁴તારી પાસે જે કૃપાદાન છે તેનો ઉપયોગ કરતા રહેવાનું યાદ રાખજે. જ્યારે વડીલોએ તારા પર તેઓના હાથ મૂક્યા તે વખતે થયેલ પ્રબોધ દ્વારા એ કૃપાદાન તને આપવામાં આવ્યુ હતુ.

¹⁴Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders.

¹⁵એ બધી પ્રવૃત્તિઓ તું ચાલુ રાખજે. તે પ્રવૃત્તિઓ કરવા તું તારું જીવન આપી દે. પછી બધા લોકો જોઈ શકશે કે તારું કાર્ય પ્રગતિ સાધી રહ્યું છે.

¹⁵Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.

¹⁶તારા જીવનમાં અને તારા ઉપદેશમાં સાવધ રહેજે. યોગ્ય રીતે જીવતો રહેજે અને ઉપદેશ આપતો રહેજે. આમ, તારો ઉપદેશ સાંભળનારા લોકોને તથા તારી જાતને તૂં તારીશ.

¹⁶Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
