¹પછી ઈસુએ તેના શિષ્યોને શીખવ્યું કે તેઓએ હંમેશા પ્રાર્થના કરવી જોઈએ અને કદાપિ આશા ગુમાવવી જોઈએ નહિ. ઈસુએ તેઓને શીખવવા એક વાર્તાનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો:

¹He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up,

²“એક શહેરમાં એક ન્યાયાધીશ હતો. તે દેવની પરવા કરતો નહિ. ન્યાયાધીશ પણ લોકો તેના વિષે શું વિચારે છે તેની ચીંતા કરતો નહિ.

²saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man.

³તે જ ગામમાં એક સ્ત્રી હતી, તેના પતિનું અવસાન થએલ હતું. તે સ્ત્રી ઘણીવાર આ ન્યાયાધીશ પાસે આવતી અને કહેતી કે, “એક માણસ મારું ખરાબ કરી રહ્યો છે, મને મારા હક્કો અપાવ.”

³ A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’

⁴પરંતુ ન્યાયાધીશ તે સ્ત્રીને મદદ કરવા ઈચ્છતો ન હતો. લાંબા સમય પછી ન્યાયાધીશે તેની જાતે વિચાર્યુ, ‘હું દેવથી ડરતો નથી અને લોકો શું વિચારે છે તેની પણ પરવા કરતો નથી.

⁴ He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God, nor respect man,

⁵પણ આ સ્ત્રી મને તકલીફ આપે છે. જો હું તેને જે જોઈએ છે તે આપીશ તો તે મારો પીછો છોડશે. પણ જો હું તેને જે જોઈએ છે તે નહિ આપુ તો હું માંદો પડીશ ત્યાં સુધી તે મને તકલીફ કરશે!”‘

⁵ yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’”

⁶પ્રભુએ કહ્યું કે, “ધ્યાનથી સાંભળ, અન્યાયી ન્યાયાધીશે જે કહ્યું તેનો પણ અર્થ છે.

⁶The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

⁷દેવના લોકો તેને રાત દિવસ બૂમો પાડે છે. દેવ હંમેશા તેના લોકોને જે સાચું છે તે હંમેશા આપશે. દેવ તેના લોકોને ઉત્તર આપવામાં ઢીલ કરશે નહિ.

⁷ Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

⁸હું તમને કહું છું, દેવ જલ્દીથી તેના લોકોની મદદ કરશે! તે તમને બહુ જ જલ્દીથી આપશે! પણ જ્યારે માણસનો દીકરો ફરીથી આવશે, ત્યારે તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ હોય એવા લોકો તેને પૃથ્વી પર જડશે?”

⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

⁹ત્યાં કેટલાએક લોકો હતા તેઓ વિચારતા કે તેઓ ઘણા સારા છે. આ લોકો એવી રીતે વર્તતા કે જાણે તેઓ બીજા લોકો કરતાં વધારે સારા છે. ઈસુએ આ વાર્તાનો ઉપયોગ તેઓને શીખવવા માટે કર્યો.

⁹He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.

¹⁰એક વખત બે જણા મંદિરમાં પ્રાર્થના કરવા માટે ગયા. એક ફરોશી હતો તે અને બીજો કર ઉઘરાવનાર હતો.

¹⁰ “Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

¹¹ફરોથી કર ઉઘરાવનારથી દૂર ઊભો રહ્યો. જ્યારે ફરોશીએ તેની પ્રાર્થનામાં કહ્યું કે, “ઓ દેવ, હું બીજા લોકો જેટલો ખરાબ નથી, તે માટે તારો આભાર માનું છું. હું ચોરી કરનાર, છેતરનારા કે વ્યભિચાર કરનારા માણસો જેવો નથી. હું કર ઉઘરાવનાર અધિકારી કરતાં વધારે સારો છું તે માટે તારો આભારમાનું છું.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: ‘God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹²હું સારો છું, હું અઠવાડિયામાં બે વાર ઉપવાસ કરું છું, અને મારી બધી કમાણીનો દશમો ભાગ આપુ છું!’

¹² I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

¹³“જકાત ઉઘરાવનાર પણ એકલો ઊભો રહ્યો. પણ જ્યારે એણે પ્રાર્થના કરી, ત્યારે તેણે ઊચે આકાશ તરફ જોયું પણ નહિ. દાણીએ છાતી કૂટીને કહ્યું કે, ‘ઓ દેવ, મારા પર દયા કર, હું એક પાપી છું!’

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

¹⁴હું તમને કહું છું, જ્યારે આ માણસ તેની પ્રાર્થના પૂરી કરીને ઘરે ગયો, તે દેવ પાસે ન્યાયી હતો. પણ તે ફરોશી જે પોતાને બીજા કરતા વધારે સારો સમજતો હતો તે દેવ પાસે ન્યાયી ઠર્યો નહોતો. પ્રત્યેક વ્યક્તિ પોતાની જાતને મહત્વની બનાવે છે તેને નીચી કરવામાં આવશે. પણ જે વ્યકિત પોતાની જાતને નીચી કરે છે તે માનવંતી બનાવાશે.”

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

¹⁵કેટલાએક લોકો તેમનાં નાનાં બાળકોને ઈસુ પાસે લાવ્યા જેથી ઈસુ તેઓનેં સ્પર્શ કરી શકે. પણ જ્યારે શિષ્યોએ આ જોયું ત્યારે તેઓએ લોકોને આમ નહિ કરવા કહ્યું.

¹⁵They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

¹⁶પણ ઈસુએ તે નાના બાળકોને તેની પાસે બોલાવ્યા અને તેના શિષ્યોને કહ્યું, “નાનાં બાળકોને મારી પાસે આવવા દો. તેઓને અટકાવશો નહિ, કારણ કે દેવનું રાજ્ય જે આ નાનાં બાળકો જેવા છે તેઓના માટે છે.

¹⁶Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the little children to come to me, and don’t hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

¹⁷હું તમને સાચું કહું છું, કે, જે કોઈ દેવનું રાજ્ય બાળકની જેમ નહિ સ્વીકારે, તે તેમાં નહિ જ પેસશે!”

¹⁷ Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”

¹⁸એક યહૂદિ અધિકારીએ ઈસુને પૂછયું કે, “ઉત્તમ ઉપદેશક, મારે અનંત જીવન પ્રાપ્ત કરવા શું કરવું જાઇએ?”

¹⁸A certain ruler asked him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

¹⁹ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “તું મને શા માટે ઉત્તમ કહે છે? ફક્ત દેવ જ ઉત્તમ છે.

¹⁹Jesus asked him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one—God.

²⁰છતાં હું તારા પ્રશ્રનો ઉત્તર આપીશ. તું દેવની આજ્ઞાઓ જાણે છે: ‘તારે વ્યભિચારનું પાપ કરવું જોઈએ નહિ, તારે કોઈનું ખૂન કરવું જોઈએ નહિ, તારે કશું ચોરવું જોઈએ નહિ, તારે બીજા લોકોને ખાટી સાક્ષી આપવી જોઈએ નહિ. તારે તારા માતા પિતાને માન આપવું જોઈએ....’ “

²⁰ You know the commandments: ‘Don’t commit adultery,’ ‘Don’t murder,’ ‘Don’t steal,’ ‘Don’t give false testimony,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’” Exodus 20:12-16; Deuteronomy 5:16-20

²¹પણ તેણે કહ્યું કે, “હું નાનો બાળક હતો ત્યારથી આ બધી આજ્ઞાઓનું પાલન કરતો આવ્યો છું!”

²¹He said, “I have observed all these things from my youth up.”

²²જ્યારે ઈસુએ આ સાંભળ્યું. ત્યારે તેણે તે અધિકારીને કહ્યું કે, “હજુ તારે એક વસ્તુ વધારે કરવાની જરૂર છે તારી પાસે જે કંઈ બધું છે તે વેચી દે અને પૈસા ગરીબ લોકોને આપી દે. આકાશમાં તને તેનો બદલો મળશે. પછી આવ અને મને અનુસર!”

²²When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me.”

²³પણ જ્યારે તે માણસે આ સાંભળ્યું, ત્યારે તે ઘણો દિલગીર થયો. તે માણસ ઘણો ધનવાન હતો અને તેની પાસે પૈસા રાખવા ઈચ્છતો હતો.

²³But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.

²⁴જ્યારે ઈસુએ જોયું કે તે માણસ દિલગીર થયો છે ત્યારે તેણે કહ્યું, “ધનવાન માણસ માટે દેવના રાજ્યમાં પ્રવેશવું મુશ્કેલ છે!

²⁴Jesus, seeing that he became very sad, said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!

²⁵ઊંટને સોયના નાકામાંથી પસાર થવું સહેલું છે પણ ધનવાનોને દેવના રાજ્યમાં પ્રવેશવું મુશ્કેલ છે.”

²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.”

²⁶જ્યારે લોકોએ આ સાંભળ્યું, તેઓએ કહ્યું, “તો પછી કોનું તારણ થશે?”

²⁶Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”

²⁷ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “માણસો માટે જે કરવું અશક્ય છે તે બાબત દેવ કરી શકે છે!”

²⁷But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

²⁸પિતરે કહ્યું કે, “જુઓ, અમે અમારી પાસે જે બધું હતું તેનો ત્યાગ કરીને તારી પાછળ આયા છીએ!”

²⁸Peter said, “Look, we have left everything, and followed you.”

²⁹ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, “હું તમને સત્ય કહું છું, દેવના રાજ્ય માટે દરેક વ્યક્તિ જે પોતાના ઘરનો, પત્નીનો, ભાઈઓનો, માતાપિતા અને બાળકોનો ત્યાગ કરશે, તે

²⁹He said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the Kingdom of God’s sake,

³⁰તેણે જે ત્યાગ કર્યો છે તે ઉપરાંત ઘણું વધારે પ્રાપ્ત કરશે. તે માણસ આ જીવનમાં અનેકગણું મેળવશે. અને તે માણસ મૃત્યુ પામે, પછી તે દેવ સાથે સદાને માટે રહેશે.”

³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the world to come, eternal life.”

³¹પછી ઈસુએ બાર પ્રેરિતો સાથે એકલા વાત કરી. ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, “ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! આપણે યરૂશાલેમ જઇએ છીએ. દેવે પ્રબોધકોને જે કંઈ માણસના દીકરા વિષે લખવાનું કહ્યું હતું તે બનશે!

³¹He took the twelve aside, and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed.

³²તેના લોકો તેના વિરોધી બનશે. અને તેને બીનયહૂદિ લોકોને સ્વાધીન કરશે. લોકો તેની મશ્કરી કરશે, તેને અપમાનિત કરશે અને તેની પર થૂંકશે.

³² For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.

³³તેઓ તેને કોરડા મારશે અને પછી મારી નાખશે. પણ તેના મૃત્યુ પછી ત્રીજા દિવસે તે સજીવન થઈને ઊઠશે.”

³³ They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again.”

³⁴શિષ્યોએ આ સમજવા પ્રયત્ન કર્યો, પણ તેઓ તમજી શક્યા નહિ, તેનો અર્થ તેઓનાથી ગુપ્ત રહ્યો.

³⁴They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said.

³⁵ઈસુ યરેખોના શહેર નજીક આવ્યો. ત્યાં રસ્તાની બાજુએ એક આંધળો માણસ બેઠો હતો. આંધળો માણસ પૈસા માટે લોકો પાસે ભીખ માંગતો હતો.

³⁵It happened, as he came near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging.

³⁶જ્યારે આ માણસે રસ્તા પરથી પસાર થતાં લોકોનો અવાજ સાંભળ્યો, તેણે પૂછયું, શું થઈ રહ્યું છે?”

³⁶Hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant.

³⁷લોકોએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “નાસરેથનો ઈસુ અહીંથી પસાર થઈ રહ્યો છે.”

³⁷They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.

³⁸આંધળો માણસ ઉત્સાહમાં આવી ગયો અને બોલ્યો કે, “ઈસુ, દાઉદના દીકરા! કૃપા કરીને મને મદદ કર!”

³⁸He cried out, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”

³⁹જે લોકો આગળ હતા અને સમૂહને દોરતા હતા તેઓએ આંધળા માણસની ટીકા કરી. તેઓએ તેને શાંતિ જાળવવા કહ્યું, પણ ઔંધળો માણસ વધારે જોરથી બૂમો પાડવા લાગ્યો, “દાઉદના દીકરા! મને મદદ કર!”

³⁹Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”

⁴⁰ઈસુ ત્યાં થોભી ગયો અને બોલ્યો, “પેલા આંધળા માણસને મારી પાસે લાવ!” જ્યારે આંધળો માણસ નજીક આવ્યો, ઈસુએ તેને પૂછયું કે,

⁴⁰Standing still, Jesus commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him,

⁴¹“તારી ઈચ્છા મારી પાસે શું કરાવવાની છે?” આંધળા માણસે કહ્યું કે, “પ્રભુ, મારે ફરીથી દેખતા થવું છે.”

⁴¹ “What do you want me to do?” He said, “Lord, that I may see again.”

⁴²ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “જો! તું સાજો થઈ ગયો છે કારણ કે તને વિશ્વાસ છે.”

⁴²Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”

⁴³[This verse may not be a part of this translation]

⁴³Immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.
