¹કેટલાએક ફરોશીઓ અને કેટલાએક શાસ્ત્રીઓ યરૂશાલેમમાંથી આવ્યા. તેઓ ઈસુની આજુબાજુ ભેગા થયા.

¹Then the Pharisees, and some of the scribes gathered together to him, having come from Jerusalem.

²ફરોશીઓ અને શાસ્ત્રીઓ ઈસુના કેટલાએક શિષ્યોને ગંદા હાથો વડે ખાતાં જોયા. (‘ચોખ્ખા નહિ’ નો અર્થ: ફરોશીઓ લોકોને આગ્રહ કરતા કે જે અમુક રીતે તેમના હાથ થોવા જોઈએ તે રીતે ધોયા ન હતા.)

²Now when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands, they found fault.

³ફરોશીઓ અને બધા યહૂદીઓ તેમની વિશિષ્ટ રીતે હાથ ધોયા વિના કદાપિ ખાતા નથી. તેઓ તેમની અગાઉ થઈ ગયેલા મહાન લોકોએ આપેલા ઉપદેશને અનુસરવા આ કરતા.

³(For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, don’t eat unless they wash their hands and forearms, holding to the tradition of the elders.

⁴અને જ્યારે યહૂદીઓ બજારમાંથી કઈક ખરીદે છે. ત્યારે તેઓ તેને ખાસ રીતે ધુએ નહિ ત્યાં સુધી તેઓ કદી ખાતા નથી. તેઓ તેમની અગાઉ જે રહેતા હતા તે લોકોના બીજા નિયમોને પણ અનુસર્યા. તેઓ પ્યાલાઓ, ઘડાઓ અને ગાગરો ધોવા જેવા નિયમોને પણ અનુસરે છે.

⁴They don’t eat when they come from the marketplace, unless they bathe themselves, and there are many other things, which they have received to hold to: washings of cups, pitchers, bronze vessels, and couches.)

⁵ફરોશીઓ અને શાસ્ત્રીઓએ ઈસુને કહ્યું, ‘તારા શિષ્યો અમારા મહાન લોકો જે અમારી અગાઉ જીવી ગયા તેઓએ અમને આપેલા નિયમોને અનુસરતા નથી. તારા શિષ્યો જે હાથો ચોખ્ખા નથી તેના વડે તેમનું ખાવાનું ખાય છે. તેઓ આમ શા માટે કરે છે?’

⁵The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why don’t your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?”

⁶ઈસુએ જવાબ આપ્યો, ‘તમે બધા દંભી છો. યશાયા તમારા વિષે સાચું જ કહે છે. યશાયાએ લખ્યું છે, ‘આ લોકો કહે છે તેઓ મને માન આપે છે, પણ તેઓ ખરેખર મને તેમના જીવનનો મહત્વનો ભાગ બનાવતા નથી.

⁶He answered them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

⁷તેઓ મારી ભક્તિ વ્યર્થ કરે છે. જે વસ્તુઓનો તેઓ ઉપદેશ કરે છે તે તો લોકોએ બનાવેલા ફક્ત સાદા નિયમો છ.’ યશાયા 29:13

⁷ But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ Isaiah 29:13

⁸તમે દેવની આજ્ઞાને અનુસરવાનું બંધ કર્યુ છે. હવે તમે માણસોના ઉપદેશો અનુસરો છો.’

⁸ “For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things.”

⁹પછી ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું, ‘તમે ધારો છો કે તમે ચાલાક છો! તમે દેવની આજ્ઞા અવગણો છો જેથી તમે તમારા પોતાના ઉપદેશકને અનુસરી શકો.

⁹He said to them, “Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.

¹⁰મૂસાએ કહ્યું, ‘તમારે તમારા માતાપિતાને માન આપવું જોઈએ.’ પછી મૂસાએ કહ્યું, ‘જે કોઈ વ્યક્તિ તેના પિતા કે માની નિંદા કરે તેને મારી નાખવો જોઈએ.’

¹⁰ For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother;’ Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16 and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’ Exodus 21:17; Leviticus 20:9

¹¹પણ તમે ઉપદેશ આપો છો કે વ્યક્તિ તેના પિતા અને માને કહી શકે, ‘મારી પાસે થોડુંક છે. હું તમને મદદ કરવા માટે તેનો ઉપયોગ કરી શકુ. પણ હું તમને મદદ કરવા માટે તેનો ઉપયોગ નહિ કરું. હું તે દેવને અર્પણ કરીશ.’

¹¹ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban Corban is a Hebrew word for an offering devoted to God. , that is to say, given to God”;’

¹²તમે વ્યક્તિને તેના મા કે પિતા માટે એથી વધારે કાંઇ કરવાની મંજૂરી આપતા નથી.

¹² then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,

¹³તેથી તમે ઉપદેશ આપો છો કે દેવે જે કહ્યું છે તે મહત્વનું નથી. તમે ધારો છો કે તમે લોકોને જે ઉપદેશ આપો છો તે નિયમોને અનુસરવું તે વધારે મહત્વનું છે અને તમે તેના જેવું ઘણું કરો છો.’

¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this.”

¹⁴ઈસુએ ફરીથી લોકોને તેમની પાસે બોલાવ્યા. તેણે કહ્યું, ‘પ્રત્યેક વ્યક્તિએ મને ધ્યાનથી સાંભળવો જોઈએ અને હું જે કહું છું તે સમજવું જોઈએ.

¹⁴He called all the multitude to himself, and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand.

¹⁵એવી કોઈ વસ્તુ નથી જે વ્યક્તિ તેના શરીરમાં મૂકે છે જે તેને અપવિત્ર બનાવે છે. તેનામાંથી જે વસ્તુઓ બહાર આવે છે તેના વડે જ વ્યક્તિ અપવિત્ર બને છે.’

¹⁵ There is nothing from outside of the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.

¹⁶તમે લોકો મારા શબ્દો ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો. તમને લોકોને જો કાન હોય તો, સાંભળો.

¹⁶ If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”

¹⁷પછી ઈસુ તે લોકોને છોડીને ઘરમાં ગયો. શિષ્યોએ ઈસુને આ વાર્તા વિષે પૂછયું.

¹⁷When he had entered into a house away from the multitude, his disciples asked him about the parable.

¹⁸ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘તમને સમજવામાં હજુ મુશ્કેલી છે? તમે ખાતરીપૂર્વક જાણો છો કે બહારથી વ્યક્તિમાં એવું કશું પ્રવેશતું નથી જે તેને વટાળી શકે.

¹⁸He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Don’t you perceive that whatever goes into the man from outside can’t defile him,

¹⁹ખોરાક વ્યક્તિના મગજમાં જતો નથી. ખોરાક તો પેટમાં જાય છે. પછી તે ખોરાક શરીરની બહાર નીકળી જાય છે.’ (જ્યારે ઈસુએ આ કહ્યું, તેનો અર્થ એ છે કે એવો કોઈ ખોરાક નથી જે લોકોને ખાવા માટે ખોટો છે.)

¹⁹ because it doesn’t go into his heart, but into his stomach, then into the latrine, thus purifying all foods or, making all foods clean ?”

²⁰અને ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘જે વસ્તુઓ વ્યક્તિઓમાંથી આવે છે તે જ તે વ્યક્તિને વટાળે છે.

²⁰He said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.

²¹આ બધી ખરાબ વસ્તુઓ વ્યક્તિના મનની અંદર શરૂ થાય છે. મનમાં ખોટા વિચારો, અનૈતિક પાપો, ચોરી, ખૂન,

²¹ For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,

²²વ્યભિચાર, સ્વાર્થ, લોકોનું ખરાબ કરવું, વ્યર્થ જીવન, પાપનાં કામો કરવા, અદેખાઇ, લોકોની નિંદા કરવી, મિથ્યા દંભ કરવો અને મૂર્ખાઈભર્યું જીવન.

²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness.

²³આ બધી દુષ્ટ વસ્તુઓ વ્યક્તિની અંદરથી આવે છે. આ વસ્તુઓ વ્યક્તિને વટાળે છે.’ : 21-28)

²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”

²⁴ઈસુ તે જગ્યા છોડીને તૂરની આજુબાજુના પ્રદેશમાં ગયો. ઈસુ ત્યાં એક ઘરમાં ગયો. તે ત્યાં હતો એમ તે પ્રદેશના લોકો જાણે એમ ઈસુ ઈચ્છતો નહોતો. પણ ઈસુ ગુપ્ત રહી શક્યો નહિ.

²⁴From there he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. He entered into a house, and didn’t want anyone to know it, but he couldn’t escape notice.

²⁵એક સ્ત્રીએ સાંભળ્યું કે ઈસુ ત્યાં હતો. તેની નાની દીકરીની અંદર શેતાનનો અશુદ્ધ આત્મા હતો. તેથી તે સ્ત્રી ઈસુ પાસે આવીને તેના ચરણોમાં નમી પડી.

²⁵For a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet.

²⁶તે સ્ત્રી યહૂદિ ન હતી. તે ગ્રીક હતી અને સિરિયા પ્રદેશના ફિનીકિયામાં જન્મી હતી. તે સ્ત્રીએ ઈસુને તેની દીકરીમાંથી ભૂત કાઢવાને વિનંતી કરી.

²⁶Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. She begged him that he would cast the demon out of her daughter.

²⁷ઈસુએ તે સ્ત્રીને કહ્યું, ‘છોકરાંની રોટલી લઈને કૂતરાંઓને આપવી તે યોગ્ય નથી. પ્રથમ છોકરાંને તેઓ ઈચ્છે તેટલું બધું ખાવા દો.’

²⁷But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

²⁸તે સ્ત્રીએ જવાબ આપ્યો,’ તે સાચું છે, પ્રભુ. પરંતુ છોકરા જે ખોરાકના નાના કકડાં મેજ નીચે પડે છે તે ખાતા નથી. તે કૂતરાંઓ ખાઇ જાય છે.’

²⁸But she answered him, “Yes, Lord. Yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

²⁹પછી ઈસુએ સ્ત્રીને કહ્યું, ‘તે એક ઘણો સારો જવાબ છે, તું જઈ શકે છે. તે ભૂત તારી દીકરીમાંથી નીકળી ગયું છે.’

²⁹He said to her, “For this saying, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

³⁰તે સ્ત્રી ઘેર ગઈ અને તેની દીકરીને પથારીમાં પડેલી જોઈ. ભૂત નીકળી ગયુ હતું.

³⁰She went away to her house, and found the child having been laid on the bed, with the demon gone out.

³¹પછી ઈસુએ તૂરની આજુબાજુનો પ્રદેશ છોડ્યો અને સિદોન થઈને ગાલીલ સરોવર તરફ ગયો. ઈસુ દસ ગામોના પ્રદેશમાં થઈને ગયો.

³¹Again he departed from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the region of Decapolis.

³²જ્યારે તે ત્યાં હતો ત્યારે કેટલાક લોકો એક માણસને તેના પાસે લાવ્યા. આ માણસ બહેરો હતો અને બોબડો હતો. લોકોએ ઈસુને તેના હાથ તે માણસ પર મૂકીને તેને સાજો કરવા વિનંતી કરી.

³²They brought to him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech. They begged him to lay his hand on him.

³³ઈસુ તે માણસને લોકો પાસેથી દૂર તેની સાથે એકાંતમાં દોરી ગયા. પછી ઈસુએ તે માણસના કાનની અંદર તેની આંગળી મૂકી અને થૂંકીને તે માણસની જીભને સ્પર્શ કર્યો.

³³He took him aside from the multitude, privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue.

³⁴ઈસુએ આકાશમાં ઊંચે જોયું અને નિસાસો નાખ્યો. ઈસુએ તે માણસને કહ્યું, ‘એફફથા!’ (આનો અર્થ, ‘ઊઘડી જા.’)

³⁴Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”

³⁵જ્યારે ઈસુએ આ કર્યુ, ત્યારે તે માણસ સાંભળવા શક્તિમાન બન્યો. તે માણસ તેની જીભનો ઉપયોગ કરવા સમર્થ બન્યો અને સ્પષ્ટ બોલવા લાગ્યો.

³⁵Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was released, and he spoke clearly.

³⁶ઈસુએ લોકોને આજ્ઞા કરી કે જે કઈ બન્યું છે તે વિષે કોઈ વ્યક્તિને કહેવું નહિ. ઈસુએ હંમેશા લોકોને આજ્ઞા કરતા કહ્યું કે તેના વિષે બીજા લોકોને કહેવું નહિ. પણ જેમ જેમ તેણે તેના વિષે ન કહેવાની વધુ ને વધુ આજ્ઞા કરી તેમ લોકો તેના વિષે વધારે ને વધારે કહેવા લાગ્યા.

³⁶He commanded them that they should tell no one, but the more he commanded them, so much the more widely they proclaimed it.

³⁷They were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He makes even the deaf hear, and the mute speak!”
