¹Ketika Daud sudah tua sekali ia mengangkat Salomo menjadi raja Israel.

¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

²Raja Daud mengumpulkan semua pemimpin Israel, imam-imam dan orang Lewi,

²And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

³lalu ia menghitung semua orang laki-laki suku Lewi yang berumur tiga puluh tahun ke atas. Semuanya ada 38.000 orang.

³And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

⁴Lalu 24.000 orang di antara mereka ditugaskannya untuk menangani pekerjaan di Rumah TUHAN, 6.000 untuk mengurus administrasi dan perkara-perkara pengadilan,

⁴Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Jehovah; and six thousand were officers and judges;

⁵4.000 untuk tugas pengawalan, dan 4.000 lagi untuk memuji TUHAN dengan alat-alat musik yang telah disediakan.

⁵and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, [said David], to praise therewith.

⁶Daud membagi orang-orang Lewi itu dalam tiga kelompok menurut kaum mereka, yaitu kaum Gerson, Kehat dan Merari.

⁶And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁷Gerson mempunyai dua anak laki-laki: Ladan dan Simei.

⁷Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

⁸Anak-anak lelaki Ladan ada tiga orang: Yehiel, Zetam dan Yoel.

⁸The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

⁹Mereka adalah kepala kaum keturunan Ladan. (Selomit, Haziel dan Haran adalah anak laki-laki Simei.)

⁹The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' [houses] of Ladan.

¹⁰Empat anak laki-laki Simei menurut urutan umur mereka adalah: Yahat, Ziza, Yeus dan Beria. Keturunan Yeus dan Beria tidak banyak, jadi mereka dianggap satu kaum.

¹⁰And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

¹¹And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.

¹²Kehat mempunyai empat anak laki-laki: Amram, Yizhar, Hebron dan Uziel.

¹²The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

¹³Amram adalah ayah Harun dan Musa. (Harun dan keturunannya untuk selama-lamanya telah dikhususkan untuk mengurus perkakas-perkakas ibadat, membakar dupa bagi TUHAN, melayani TUHAN dan memberkati rakyat atas nama TUHAN.

¹³The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, for ever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, for ever.

¹⁴Anak-anak lelaki Musa hamba Allah itu digolongkan ke dalam suku Lewi.)

¹⁴But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

¹⁵Musa mempunyai dua anak laki-laki, yaitu Gersom dan Eliezer.

¹⁵The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

¹⁶Yang menjadi pemimpin anak-anak Gersom ialah Sebuel.

¹⁶The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

¹⁷Eliezer mempunyai hanya seorang anak laki-laki, namanya Rehabya. Tetapi Rehabya mempunyai banyak sekali anak.

¹⁷And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

¹⁸Yizhar, anak Kehat yang kedua, mempunyai anak laki-laki bernama Selomit; ia adalah kepala kaum.

¹⁸The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

¹⁹Hebron, anak Kehat yang ketiga, mempunyai empat anak laki-laki: Yeria yang tertua, berikut Amarya, Yehaziel dan Yekameam.

¹⁹The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

²⁰Uziel, anak Kehat yang keempat, mempunyai dua anak laki-laki: Mikha yang tertua, dan Yisia.

²⁰The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

²¹Merari mempunyai dua anak laki-laki bernama Mahli dan Musi. Mahli mempunyai dua anak laki-laki, yaitu Eleazar dan Kish,

²¹The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

²²tetapi Eleazar meninggal tanpa mempunyai anak laki-laki; hanya anak-anak perempuan yang kawin dengan saudara-saudara sepupu mereka, yaitu anak-anak Kish.

²²And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them [to wife].

²³Musi, anak Merari yang kedua, mempunyai tiga anak laki-laki: Mahli, Eder dan Yeremot.

²³The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

²⁴Itulah nama-nama keturunan Lewi yang tercatat menurut nama kepala kaum dan keluarganya masing-masing. Mereka berumur dua puluh tahun ke atas dan mendapat tugas di Rumah TUHAN.

²⁴These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' [houses] of those of them that were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward.

²⁵Daud berkata, "TUHAN Allah Israel telah memberikan ketentraman kepada umat-Nya, dan Ia sendiri tinggal di Yerusalem untuk selama-lamanya.

²⁵For David said, Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto his people; and he dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever:

²⁶Karena itu, Kemah TUHAN dan semua perkakas yang dipakai untuk ibadat tidak perlu lagi dipikul oleh orang Lewi."

²⁶and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.

²⁷Berdasarkan perintah-perintah terakhir dari Daud, semua orang Lewi, apabila sudah berumur 20 tahun, harus didaftarkan untuk bertugas.

²⁷For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.

²⁸Mereka harus membantu imam-imam keturunan Harun dalam menyelenggarakan upacara ibadat di Rumah TUHAN, memelihara pelataran-pelataran dan kamar-kamar di Rumah TUHAN itu, serta menjaga supaya segala sesuatu yang sudah dikhususkan untuk TUHAN tidak menjadi najis.

²⁸For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;

²⁹Mereka juga bertanggung jawab atas yang berikut ini: roti yang dipersembahkan kepada Allah, tepung yang dipakai untuk persembahan kepada TUHAN, kue tipis yang dibuat tanpa ragi, kurban panggangan, dan tepung yang dicampur dengan minyak zaitun. Mereka harus juga menimbang dan menakar persembahan-persembahan yang dibawa ke Rumah TUHAN.

²⁹for the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size;

³⁰Selain itu mereka harus menyanyi untuk memuji TUHAN setiap pagi dan setiap malam;

³⁰and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at even;

³¹juga setiap waktu apabila ada kurban yang dibakar untuk TUHAN pada hari Sabat, pada perayaan Bulan Baru, dan pada perayaan-perayaan lainnya. Mengenai jumlah orang Lewi yang harus bertugas setiap kali, telah juga dibuat peraturannya. Untuk selama-lamanya orang Lewi harus melaksanakan tugas itu.

³¹and to offer all burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Jehovah;

³²Mereka diberi juga tanggung jawab untuk memelihara Kemah TUHAN serta Rumah TUHAN dan untuk membantu saudara-saudara mereka, yaitu para imam keturunan Harun, dalam menyelenggarakan ibadat di tempat itu.

³²and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of Jehovah.
